They could have picked a pic from anywhere other than the Cuban dance-off.

Now I'm picturing the negotiation going something like this:

Boss: Pap, sorry.
Pap: *pouts*
Boss: Really, I am. Don't sweat, you'll get your massive payrise soon.
Pap: Oh you!
Posted Tuesday March 04, 2008, About: Colon closer to Sox rotation?
RunItUp: who the hell cares so long as he can throw?

This really was a low risk / high reward move by the Red Sox, and if it pays out this quickly then I'll be surprised.

I absolutely believe that this type of dispute should be settled on Judge Judy.

That fifteen minute, smackdown brand of justice is pretty much all that these clowns deserve.

You'd have thought that, at his age, Blanco might have grown up a touch.

Absolutely agree that MLS should look outside of its usual target areas. However, they have to be realistic - the fact remains that unless salary caps, etc, are revised they'll have a very hard time attracting the calibre of player (i.e. ones in their prime), that they require to raise the general standard of the league.

As for Montano, if he's the chap who was at Parma briefly, he did look a hell of a talent at the time. He just moved continents far, far too early, and I am sure he'll do a job in that league.

Blimey, he looks old for a 24 year old!

Seriously though, he'll need to be a talent if he's stuck behind Xavier and Babayaro.
Posted Tuesday February 19, 2008, About: Bulls close to signing Colombian
Is there a decent reserve structure in MLS? I would, personally, make Conde play when the club needs him to, but otherwise restrict his game time. He didn't sign with the manager, he signed for the team.
Posted Monday January 07, 2008, About: Ex-FBI Agent: Roger less than honest
Sadly, I haven't seen the interview yet, but gee. Would you expect an ex-FBI steroid investigator to say anything else?
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
Antonio - are you Barry Bonds, posting incognito?

Either way, you are a troll. Ciao!
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
---Antonio

Roger Clemens is a cheater, and deserves to have an asterisk as much as any other player that has taken steroids.

Bonds was a great player, but he chose to take illegal substances and tarnish his legacy.

Does that help? Again, there is no race angle.
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
Oh, and it's terribly sad that Bonds became so self-obsessed that he chose to go down the steroid route. He was undoubtedly a great player, and that's forever ruined now in the eyes of the fans.

(But this isn't a discussion about Bonds in particular, so ner!)
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
Yanksters - agreed.

Antonio - there is no race angle here. Clemens is dirty because he is dirty. Bonds is in trouble because he is dirty. I fail to see what you are saying.

"They have SOME records. I didnt see checks and such on any significant player. Pettitte? Didnt see anything on paper for him. Ostrich? Im saying you still need proof. 9 times out of 10, someone's word will help solve a case, yes. But the word leads them to proof, they dont convict solely on that persons word. Law and Order 101."

You bit? Great.

Witness testimony is as compelling as physical evidence. When there is physical evidence to boot, it's a done deal. This is how the trial system works (at least here in the UK).

Besides, it's all a bit moot - this isn't a trial, none of these players are going to face criminal charges (FOR SHAME!), and there isn't reason to discount the testimony given (by Giambi, no less). They would NOT have named names if they weren't certain, because libel law would ruin them. You do need to remember that DLA Piper are a rather good law firm.

"Forget Mitchell for a second. The word of people saving their own tails by ratting out the players they may have supplied, without any other proof that just that person saying it? It would never hold up in a court"

Perry Mason 101.

Nine times out of Ten, star witnesses come from the criminal fraternity.

Hope this helps.

(Seriously, this isn't all hearsay. They have checks, phone records, you know, physical evidence. Don't be an ostrich!)
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
And ForeverNY, I genuinely thought that Nomar would be on the list.

That said, Mitchell went on record as saying that the list wasn't definitive, and that they lacked the "proof" to name further players.

I am sure that other names will pop up in the coming weeks.
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
Yanksters - honestly, do you really, truly believe what you're saying?

"Without physical evidence, their "word" is just a bunch of crap coming out of a less than reliable person."

You are familiar with how this stuff works, don't you? The old saying that there is honour amongst theives is largely nonsense.

Sadly, you're coming across as being a little "tin-foil-hat-chip-under-skin" about all of this - the evidence is what it is, nor was Mitchell wasn't the only person involved with the report.
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
To those Yankees moaning, gee, common sense please.

The main whistleblower was from New York.

Ergo, there is going to be a large representation of New York players.

Please do not let the fact that in, addition to being far better than you, the Red Sox are far cleaner illegal substance-wise, cloud your judgement over the efficacy of this report. (Tongue in cheek.)

Surely, surely you can't imagine that a New York snitch is going to be in a position to offer that many names from out of town?
Posted Thursday December 13, 2007, About: MVPs, All-Stars on Mitchell list
And, for the record, this is all rather sad. Although I'm not a particular fan of any of the players named by Mitchell, some people are - Pettite in particular it seems - and it is always very, very hard when your idols fall.

Oh, and as for your US Attorney policy of not going after the users - am I naive in thinking that there really ought to be an exception to this rule for sportspeople?

I thought these were meant to be performance *enhancing* drugs!

Can't see us giving up Ells, and I can't see Coco as being tempting enough.

For some reason, I still have a good feeling about this. Despite the money wanted getting somewhat silly...

So, the Joe-Pa batterers find out he's not paid an utter fortune, but choose to chuck in a sly dig about "other football-related income".

Seems a bit childish to me.
