Sadly, if he hadn't whipped his head around at the last second, he probably would have taken more of the hit to the chest. It's an all-around unfortunate circumstance. I think that with the current rules the penalty and game misconduct were the appropriate discipline.
And as far as stars getting preferential treatment, I think it's actually kind of funny to hear that other Pens fan complaining about that. You guys sure as hell didn't want a suspension when Malkin slew-footed Mara at full speed in open ice.
1. His team was on the powerplay. He has to realize that going after Ballard could cost his team that advantage.
2. If Richards, Lucic, or Iginla goes after a guy, they have a legitimate shot at really sending a message. I just don't feel like the same message gets sent when you catch punches with your face.
Generally, I would support a player trying to stick up for a teammate, but the specifics of this situation make me question the decision.
As for the penalty in OT, let's be serious guys. The refs were letting a lot of interference, roughing, and physical play go, but a clear trip is a clear trip. Poti clearly tripped Umberger. If you don't want to get called for it, keep your stick out of his skates. Of course, I understand the crying about it being a neutral zone play, but the Flyers deserved a penalty after another terrible non-call when Kapanen was tripped, which broke up a two on one.
To sum it all up, it's one thing to swallow the whistle to allow hard physical play, but it's another thing entirely when physical play turns into outright cheating.
I'm not sure if you are being serious with your last bit, but no they are not Christian in any way shape or form, the name was originally meant as a joke because they were banned from venues because of their old name, Burn The Priest. If you are still interested you can find their music on purevolume.com.
On a broader note, we all have biases that we really can't remove. I'm never going to agree with you guys and you will never agree with me. I'm just trying to make sure that all Philly fans aren't tarred with the same brush. The truth is I lose my cool sometimes and say rash things, but I do respect other teams' fans. So please stop the comparisons between Philly fans and the murderers that unfortunately do walk the streets in this city.
Peace out guys.

Well look, I can't speak for every fan that was there obviously, but nobody in my section was cheering him getting hurt. The immediate cheers from most fans were for what the crowd thought was a great play by Utley to even make the tag close. Saying that the outburst of applause was unanimously for Reyes' injury is a huge assumption.
Even the Mets fans that started a brawl two sections over from me could understand that we weren't cheering an injury. They just couldn't understand why people get mad when you throw hotdogs at them. (By the way, for all you folks complaining about a bad family environment, they hit a little girl.)
As for the username, it's actually a reference to one of my favorite bands, Lamb of God. It's a nickname they gave the city because of its intense passion for all aspects of life. But wow, yet another glaring assumption from you. I think I see a pattern developing here.
To the guy whose wife was called a ****... I think that would be preferable to going to a Jets game where hundreds of men would belligerently yell at her until she removed her top. Name calling vs. blatant sexual harassment... I think I'll take name calling.
Finally, we only need the jails because the people of Philadelphia get angry when we are expected to kiss NY fans' feet because they feel entitled to greatness. I'm not saying our fans don't start problems too, but you have to realize that it goes both ways. It's not just Philly fans getting out of hand.

Sorry buddy, but you expose yourself as the idiot you are through the rank hypocrisy of this statement: "But I could never cheer for someone who is down and out (maybe with the exception of manny ramirez)." Manny Ramirez is a flashy player that regularly kills the Yanks. Reyes is a flashy player that regularly kills the Phillies. If the Phillies' fans actually did cheer Reyes' injury(THEY DID NOT), how would it have been any different than what you admit you would do? That seems like some sluggish, thick-witted reasoning to me.

Leave it to the NY Post to misreport a completely benign incident and get Mets fans all riled up. There were no cheers for Reyes being injured. There were boos when the delay became extensive. Oh, also, I'll leave my siblings alone and stick to NY fans' sisters.
Now, to ALL the Mets fans out there:
Last year my buddies and I went to see the Phillies and Mets at Shea. The second I walked in the gates, obnoxious Mets fans were calling one of my black friends a filthy **** and saying all kinds of ridiculous things. One of the aforementioned fans got in my face and asked me what the hell we thought we were doing in NY. I simply told him we were touring the crappiest ballparks in the nation and decided to start with Shea. He immediately tried to take my head off and was escorted out of the park. So, yeah... Philly fans are the worst, right.

Come on man, we're not arrogant. We're just confident about how awesome we are. But seriously, Crosby does get some level of preferential treatment. Some fans just need to face up to that fact. I'm not gonna resort to name calling or saying that it is ruining the sport, but it does exist. I can't change it, so I'm just gonna hop on the broad st. septa line, go down to the wachovia center, if the flyers and pens happen to meet later in the playoffs, and have myself one hell of a good time.
