What is the asking price for Xabi Alonso anyhow? I know Juve said he was too much. Wouldn't have minded seeing him in the black & white...

I believe that it was in the market of 15m for him.

HAHA...no matter what Newcastle do, they STILL won't be a big club. I see another torrid season for KK.
Posted Friday August 01, 2008, About: Fenerbahce linked to Xabi
Well, I personally feel that Xabi is a much better MF than Barry. Don't get me wrong, Gareh would make our midfield a lot stronger considering that Gareth can play on the left, however I think sacrificing Xabi to seal the move would be a mistake.

How about Liverpool sell: Voronin (6m - to a bundesliga club), Pennant (6m - Blackburn), Finnan (2m + cash for Barry in x-fer deal), and Benayoun (6m - Manchester City). We will then have the funds to accommodate the Barry transfer.

If Rafa is that keen to bring in Barry, then he needs to complete the above.
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Liverpool not giving up on Barry
For s*it's sake, move on already. We do not need Barry. Wingers Benitez, WINGERS. Our CM is already stacked.

Shadow Angel | 07/31/08, 12:29 PM
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
Not necessarily. Gareth was only played as a CM for Villa simply because they were lacking in that department. However, Barry has the ability of playing as a LM, which was the position he originally started as.

But I do agree with you though that purchasing Barry may not be the best idea as we would be better off purchasing Silva instead (if we did have the funds).
Posted Thursday July 31, 2008, About: Will MLS punish Fire's Blanco?
I am glad that this clown is getting a two year suspension. Read the article on the Soccer page...he apparently tried to headbutt a member of a United staff, and punched someone in the stomach and poke an eye out.

If you ask me, this guy is a dirty little...ahem...nevermind, because I don't want to be accused of being racist.

MLS football: Better than that Mexican League crap!
Posted Thursday July 03, 2008, About: Chelsea makes huge bid on Torres
Yeah, the Torres deal was 25m GBP plus Luis Garcia. As for the Barry situation, the only reason why he is missing the first day of training is because of that unauthorised interview he gave. Yeah, it's no secret that Barry wants to come to Liverpool, but given the recent circumstances, do you really want someone like him coming to the team?

I would rather hold the cash and make a max bid for David Silva. What we need is a left winger, not another central midfielder. If the Alonso transfer doesn't go through, and we purchase Barry, then we'll have Barry, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, and Leiva all competing for Central Mid. I suppose you can move Gerrard on the right, however we both know that Rafa loves using Kuyt as a winger...
Posted Thursday July 03, 2008, About: Chelsea makes huge bid on Torres
Oh yeah: United made a substantial profit last season, earning a little more than 200m...it seems to me that the Glazers seem to know what their doing, and if they sell Ronaldo to Madrid, that's nearly $180m extra they're getting! SAF even said that they are really not going to be active in the transfer market because he thinks they have a complete squad...

IF Torres went to Chelsea, you can say bye to Drogba (going to Inter), Malouda going back to Spain/France, SWP going to another EPL club, and Sheva will be out back to Italy. OH and don't forget fat frank...we'll see him in an Inter shirt soon...now that Deco has arrived.
Posted Thursday July 03, 2008, About: Chelsea makes huge bid on Torres
"And plus we're not the Glazers. Club is only something like 35 mil pounds in debt unlike the 100's of millions ManUre is. And if we were so desperate for cash would we be making the high bids for Barry and now Keane like is being reported?"

Jackie_Treehorn | 07/03/08, 11:08 AM
----------------------------------------------------------------
Nearly 35m in debt?? Are you sure about that?? You have to remember that we purchased players like Torres and Babel using loans, and the whole entire Liverpool FC purchase were through loans with an exceptionally high interest rate in GBP. Hicks and Gilette have yet to put any of their own money into the club. Hicks has even gone out and publicly stated that he would use funds earned from LFC and use it for the Texas Rangers Organization.

As for players like Barry and Keane, I am sorry but Aston Villa is asking for roughly $36m for Barry and Rafa will not pay that much for the player because he doesn't have enough transfer kitty. The latest bid yesterday was for right under $30m...which would also include funds recently received from the JAR transfer to Roma. The only way we'll get Keane is by offering $$$ plus players. Unfortunately I imagine that we would have to sell Xabi Alonso to Juventus for a hefty price in order to get another top rated player...

Money is tight at Anfield these days...
Posted Saturday June 28, 2008, About: EU considering Euro all-star squad?
Also please note that the age requirement for goalkeepers are a little different because they are traditionally a little older when still playing...

This explains why Van der Sar was the starting keeper and he is 37...
Posted Saturday June 28, 2008, About: EU considering Euro all-star squad?
Well, without trying to sound bias, I have compiled the possible starting 11 and possible subs. If FIFA were to sponsor this idea, I imagine that the team would consist of 23 players (like the current Euro 2008 squads). I have done my best of ensuring that players aged 31+ were not included, because if this really happened, chances will be slim for that player.

GK: Van Der Sar
DF: Ramos, Terry, Puyol, Lahm
MF: Ronaldo, Ballack, Fabregas, D. Silva
FW: Villa, Toni

Subs: Buffon, Gerrard, Iniesta, Grosso, Metzelder, Ferdinand, Benzema, Quaresma, Podolski, Torres, Van Persie, and Ribery.

I picked certain players based on club and international form. The starting 11, in my opinion, were the best for their position for club and country.

Your thoughts??

anfield that is sad that you are ashamed of your blood and genes. We are better off without people like you. Stick to your uptight soccer mom upbringing lock the doors and hide the Mexicans are coming!!! Loser. I am glad I will never have to asociatte with a weak minded individual like yourself.
-------------------------------------------------
How juvenile is that!

I am not ashamed of my blood and genes, but I am an AMERICAN, born and raised, so if anything it's not like I have to pledge my allegiance to Mexico. I have family members from Mexico, my mother is Mexican-American, but I am obviously going to be loyal to the United States. You not comprehending that is quite ignorant.

Now about football: If there is anything that I am envious about concerning Mexico, it's the fact that they signed Sven Goran Eriksson. He was a brilliant manager for England, Benfica, Lazio, and most recently Manchester City (despite what the owner thinks). Bob Bradley has done okay, that's right just okay, with the US (2008 record 2-2-2)...but remember Mexico pulled off quite a stunner by inking Sven. That's more than what the United States can claim.

The United States and Mexico will qualify for the 2010 World Cup, as usual, with each side taking a victory from each other in the future. Mexico underachieves north the Rio Grande while the US will do the same in Mexico City.

WOW.

Not surprised by the report. Nice to see that they players are acting just like Mexico fans when over in the United States: trash things, disrupt things, poor sportsmanship, and complain.

I am half-Mexican but I have no sympathy for the national team or anything Mexico related for that matter. All the players are crybabies and the "die-hard" supporters are just as pathetic. They come over here to the United States to watch a footie match and in return they trash our stadiums, hurl objects into opposing crowds and then b*tch about how "unfair" they were treated while here.

Don't believe me, look it up on Youtube...

...now I am off to piss on Jalisco Field! :D

You think so? I am not so sure about that. I feel that if Avram wins the Champions League, he'll stay. If not, Grant will be shown the door and replaced with the current assistant Henk ten Cate. Besides, mancini's record in European matches is quite poor, and we all know what Roman feels about Europe...

If anything, your lot have plenty of gaps. Your whole defensive lineup needs a change, you need to swap out a few players (bendtner, Gilberto Silva) and your gaffer Wenger needs to stop the French arrogance and put Walcott out more. Hleb was mediocre, so you should be thankful he went to Inter. If anything, you lost out when Flamini packed his bags.

Realistically, Liverpool will get Bentley, Barry, Rafinha, and maybe Huntelaar or Malouda (seriously: BBC sport). We are not just going to go on a shopping spree mind you. In return we will offload Crouch, Voronin, Alonso, Benayoun, Pennant, and Riise.
Posted Saturday May 17, 2008, About: Arsenal, Liverpool want French star
Liverpool need: Nasri, Benzema, Bentley, Barry, Rafinha, and Quaresma.

If we can't bring all of them to Anfield, then we will definitely need to add Huntelaar and Aguero.

I'm not sure I see how a shelved stadium proposal in Texas affects a new stadium in Liverpool. Isn't this story connecting dots on issues that aren't directly connected?!?
-----------------------------------------------------
Well actually Big Ben, if I am not mistaken, Hicks hired the same contracting company that was planning to build the new stadium in Texas to also build the Stanley Park stadium.

Hicks is such a tool. Bringing the club into loads of debt, boardroom drama, retracting of his stadium proposals...

HICKS NEEDS TO GO!

Posted Friday May 16, 2008, About: Does Mexico really want Sven?
The writer of this article clearly doesn't know anything about the "beautiful game." I am amazed that a newspaper such as The Los Angeles Times would allow someone to write something so imprudent. England reject? Womanizing? We all know Sven's hgihs and lows as England manager, but the British media love to antagonize, and Sven unfortunately got the raw end of it.

The Mexico National Team, as much as most of you will disagree with me on this, is mediocre. No longer the "giants" of CONCACAF, the MNT is using the same strategy as the USNT did when searching for a manager. My theory is that Sven-Goran Eriksson's name is being mentioned merely to attract other "top name" managers. Unfortunately, like the United States, Mexico will lose out and appoint a relatively unknown manager.

Unfortunately, Eriksson's short tenure will be over after Man City's tour of Thailand in the summer, and he will wait around until another fairly large club comes calling.

@ sithomeandrot

Okay, Rafa clearly got it wrong in the CL semifinal with his tactics. BUT, with all of the boardroom rubbish going on now, Liverpool have become quite the laughing stock of England.

First, H&G bought the club with loans, putting the club into massive debt. Second, they retracted a bit on our new stadium that would be built in Stanley Park. He (Hicks) has not invested ANYTHING into the club, unlike the Moores (previous owners). Finally, they went behind Rafa's back in searching for a possible successor at the end of the season (Klinsmann). As far as I see it, they have been lying through their teeth the whole time and obviously don't care about the club. Perfect example: Hicks opted out of the Liverpool/Arsenal quarterfinal second leg to watch some bloody lousy Texas Ranger baseball. Idiot.

Liverpool fans do realise that we've not been able to bridge the gap between us and the other "Big Three" in the Premier League the past few years, but the boardroom situation is not helping the lads or the image of the club. H&G need to sell their stake and hit the road.

They have lost the trust of the fans, the players, and importantly the manager...as far as I see it...they need to leave.

IN RAFA WE TRUST

Well, this basically guarantees that Gerrard will NOT be going to Stamford Bridge...

Wanna know why? Look at past England matches when Lamps and Gerrard covered midfield together, they were very poor.
