Posted Thursday September 27, 2012, About: Leyland's final game in Detroit?
He's been a great character AND a successful manager for a long time. Nice combination. Hope he doesn't retire, regardless of what happens this year.
Posted Thursday September 27, 2012, About: Lincecum's playoff role in jeopardy
You gotta go with your best four. Linc is NOT one of their best four starters at the moment. Maybe he will be again someday, but not now.
Posted Thursday September 27, 2012, About: Cubs ready to spend, spend, spend?
Um, on a team with as many needs as this one, blowing a SIGNIFICANT amount of it on a streaky (altho extremely talented) outfielder like Hamilton is probably NOT the best route.
Posted Thursday August 23, 2012, About: Baker stumping for Hamilton call-up
If they're waiting until the September call ups, let's hope the Reds don't lose a couple of vital games between now and then because Dusty didn't have this guy available!
Posted Thursday August 23, 2012, About: Terrible slumps at terrible time for Braves
Well, if they'd all been in a slump EARLIER in the season, they wouldn't be within shouting distance of the Nats NOW. Slumps happen throughout the season. Good teams make hay while the sun shines so they can survive the slumps.
Posted Thursday August 23, 2012, About: Frustration boiling over for Sveum
It happens. It has to happen. You've got to tear down and rebuild from scratch occasionally to get good. The Cubbies coasted by on mediocre for decades. This is painful, but it is the only way to go.
Posted Sunday August 19, 2012, About: Report: Traded Shoppach behind Red Sox text mutiny
Shoppach, a back up catcher, has more cujones than the safest, richest player on the team!
Posted Saturday August 18, 2012, About: Dempster can't pitch in native Canada?
The number of funny/intelligent political comments about EITHER party made in these blogs will fit on the head of a pin with room to spare ...
Posted Friday August 17, 2012, About: Struggling Haren at a loss
Strange that nearly every Angel pitcher, save Weaver (and it is too early to tell on Greinke) has been struggling for much of the year. Maybe it is time to change pitching coaches.
Posted Thursday August 16, 2012, About: Struggling MVP takes a seat
I agree with Truth3.0 -- it's a long season, it happens. Hamilton was in a HORRENDOUS slump and he's busted out with a couple of days off. Likewise, they'll probably sit Beltre for a game or two. Braun apparently needs a breather.
Posted Thursday August 16, 2012, About: Cabrera's replacement in left
Melky's stupidity is really, really going to hurt a very good team. After the last round of suspensions, you woulda thought the potential offenders would have got a clue ...
Posted Thursday August 16, 2012, About: Cabrera suspension plays in Hamilton's favor
Um, my understanding is that the Rangers have spent a LOT of money trying to "help Hamilton out with his demons" -- ranging from full-time counselors and advisors to working with this family. Hamilton is -- by all accounts -- a great team-mate and a once-in-a-lifetime talent. His freakishly powerful/fast body means he'll always be susceptible to certain kinds of sports-related injuries as well. The question is, with pitching at a premium (and 2 of the 5 starting Ranger pitchers are out for the season), do you want to tie up a sizeable chunk of your revenue for the next 6-7 years on this one player?
Posted Monday August 13, 2012, About: GM likes his last-place Jays
I agree. If they can get their injured pitchers back AND sign 1 or 2 quality guys who can eat some innings for them, this is a dangerous team.
Posted Monday August 13, 2012, About: Twins consider drastic change to Target Field
The only thing that'll help the Twins is if they move the pitching mound in ... but only for the home team!
Posted Monday August 13, 2012, About: Free agency keeping Ortiz from rushing back?
Not much left for the BoSox to prove this season. Ortiz doesn't have much left to prove, either. It'll be interesting to see what a DH-only guy can do in the off-season FA market... esp. if Hamilton (and the big bucks he'll get) are there.
Posted Friday August 10, 2012, About: No guarantees beyond 2012 for Acta
I don't think you can blame Acta for a team with mid-level talent at best. Get him a few more pitchers, then let's talk about his performance. Until recently, the Indians were playing pretty good ball. They just ran out of steam ... and talent.
Posted Friday August 10, 2012, About: Hot O's prospect promoted, phenom Bundy next?
They're probably rushing Machado a bit ... can't say that I blame them with the production they're getting from some of their infielders. But it would be worse than silly -- it would be counter-productive -- to bring up Bundy now. You don't mess with legit pitching talent. (See: Clyde, David.)
Posted Friday August 10, 2012, About: Mets ready to increase Dickey's workload
Good for 'em. Good for RA. His book was a fascinating read, too. He's more than paid his dues. And the knuckler doesn't really strain the arm. I say, go for it!
Posted Friday August 10, 2012, About: Phillies willing to deal for 3B
Unless they go after the kid from San Diego, the free-agent crop of 3Bs with a future (and, like it or not, Youkliss' career is winding down) is slim, Charlie. I don't see many I'd gut the minor league talent for.
Posted Friday August 10, 2012, About: Lee's future with the Marlins
Lee is a liability at 1B and the OF. For a guy with no homerun punch and a .270-.280 average -- forget the sudden surge of RBIs -- I just don't see the Marlins keeping him. And I'm not sure there is an AL team that needs him at DH (unless the Rays come up empty in their never-ending search for a reliable run-producer at DH). Nice guy -- by all accounts -- but a marginal player as he ends a nice career.
Posted Thursday August 09, 2012, About: Why Yankees should fret postseason matchups
Pitching staff wise, the Yanks look to be behind the Angels and Tigers, and even with the Rangers. Since everybody outside of NYC roots against 'em, this could be an interesting October.
