Cubs In 1908's Comments

My point was stated in my original post...did you not read it? And if we were talking about Shaq, Wilt, Duncan OR Howard in this TD I could maybe see where you are coming from. But we aren't so why bring them up? I merely compared the two players being debated above. So I ask...what was the point of your post?
Kevin Love is a career 82% free throw shooter...Blake Griffin is a career 62.1% free throw shooter, and shooting just over 50% from the line this year...Advantage Love because he can be a 4 quarter player...do the Clippers pass the ball to Griffin late with a small lead and hope he doesn't get fouled? Love can be a go to guy in the 4th quarter...Griffin is limited
A Tie?? let me guess...you are a Pud Selig fan? Did you like the tie in the all star game a few years back too?
I had the #1 pick in my draft...AP all the way...can't argue with his consistency
This TD isn't too clear...are we talking guys who play football in the CFL or Canadians who play football? If it's guys who play pro football in Canada they win...if its Canadian players only playing Oklahoma they get crushed...just not enough good Canadian football players...and a good questions which was brought up before...which rules? They are very different games...
The year was 1884 in case anyone is interested
Radbourn also pitched 678 2/3 innings that year...in his team's last 43 games he started 40 of them!!! If pitchers could stand to do that these days the records may be broken...but with DiMaggio's streak, hitters only got 4-5 ABs per game just like in the pre-modern era so hitting records of all time vs. pitching records aren't really comparable for this argument...I really don't think DiMaggio's streak is possible to reach
Yes...I can't help it...I'm a stats/numbers geek
www.baseball-almanac.com it's a great website for historical data
My fault here...Since I brought up modern vs. pre-modern era in my argument Willie Keeler did have a 45 game hit streak in 1896-97, which is still only 80.4% of the way to DiMaggio's record...just wanted to set the record straight
Just did a search on Williams' 16 on base streak...you must be talking modern era only? Frank Ward reached base 17 consecutive times from June 16-19, 1893...and to make another point 3 other players have reached base 15 consecutive times in the modern era...Frank Thomas, Barry Bonds and John Olerud...so 15 games is 93.7% of the way to 16...Pete Rose's 44 game streak is only 79.5% of the way to Joe D's 56 game streak...so if we are comparing them that way Joe's streak is more impressive...I know a lot of times we can make numbers say what we kind of want them to say, but I think in this case it's fairly clear cut...that's just my opinion too
Nobody will ever beat DiMaggio's 56 game streak in 1941...not happening...with today's pitchers being so specialized you are lucky to face the same pitcher 3 times in a game...most likely you will face 2-3 different pitchers in a game so it's harder to get a good bead on just one pitcher for the whole game...in Joe D's day a lot of pitchers pitched complete games (1085 total complete games in 1941 by 16 teams in MLB!) as compared to 165 total complete games in 2010 by 30 teams...these days a 30 game streak is impressive let alone a 56 game streak
