Nothing surprises me about the Cowboys anymore. Being a fan for about 45 years, I thought I had seen it all, until the past few years when this team has become a circus, starting with Jones's comment about "even negative attention is good for the Cowboys".
I just shake my head at any comments made by Jones.......those one can actually understand.........like the "glory hole" statement among many. When JJ should have been looking for guidance from the Rooney family, or those well established and successful, on how to establish a team, he instead became buddies with Al Davis, who had been in the latter stages of dementia (in my opinion).
I don't think the Cowboys will be successful until JJ relinquishes his control over being GM, Head Coach, and other titles he holds dear.
If most fans are anything like me, I've become numb to the circus atmosphere. I'll continue rooting and cheering much as I have for 45 plus years, but when they lose like they have been the past few years, I just put myself in numb mode, and find something else to do or watch, like watching paint dry or grass grow.
Hopefully, the defensive play from the last game will provide a spark to the offense, and carry on to the next, and the next......etc. If the O line will remove their heads from their arses, and give Romo a couple of more seconds, and open up some holes for whoever is the RB, then these 'Boys might at least have a winning season.
I fail to see how Jason Carrot is improving, Jeff. I know JJ seems to think he is, but JJ is fooled by a lot of things. There was a questionable call last night, and the announcers said that "Carrot would not challenge it", and he did not, regardless of whether he'd have won it or not. He didn't even try. Maybe that's why JJ is so enamored with Carrot. They both seem to think alike.
Not sure if it still works (for me it did last season), But I cut what I wrote, hit the reload (or back button), then pasted what I had written again, and hit the submit button. Likely won't work, but it did for the most part last year....for me anyway.............still a PITA.
Chico, not all fans are "unrealistic". I know the Cowboys have a long way to go to be any kind of contender. I take what they will give me, and let it go at that. After 45 years of watching them, especially the last 15 or so, you get to where you watch them play and then go on, win or lose.
I can't change anything about them anyway. Now, there are some rabid fans who think you should lose your cool when the 'Boys lose, but I'm no longer one of those. I'm too old to go knocking holes in walls and such when they do bone headed things..............lol
Nor will I claim them to be SB contenders until they actually get there.....
Don't forget the "mighty" Julius Jones, when they could have had Stephen Jackson....I think Parcells decided that for the most part. But, still..........
In my opinion, Garrett being the Ivy League grad he is, is an intelligent, book smart man. But, does he have common sense? Evidently not. With him and his play calling (shuttle pass play comes to mind, with Bryant on left side being guarded by a midget) is not conducive to winning a very winnable game. Traded 7 points for 3 just on that one play. The best the Pats could do is tie it up, and go into OT. As it turned out, that 4 point difference is what cost the Cowboys the game. Maybe NE would have still won even at that, but we'll never know now.
Being a life long Cowboys fan myself, I hope you're right, but I would be hesitant about any "guarantees" just yet. Watching the Steelers and Packers last evening, those teams have it going on, and will be a handful next week. I cannot see them falling off in the next few years either. Same with the Pats. This Cowboys team will be talented, yes, but they will have to crawl before they can start walking again. Also, it depends on how well Garrett can judge talent in the draft, and if Garrett is any good, how much will Jerry let him control?

What else can I do?.........lol
That's basically all we can hope for.
I'm not impressed with JJ or Carrot.

We will see.
