This story has been beaten to death. It's a non-story about something someone MIGHT have said, IF someone left, but uh, "I'm not sure who said it", uh.....
That's enough drama about a friggin' position coach.
So why would Pete Carroll be so upset about their recruiting?
BECAUSE HE'S NERVOUS!!! Rick is just playing Petey's game! Go ahead, Trojans, act disgusted and shocked. Now we will BOTH recruit using the same damn tricks. Haha, I LOVE IT!
1. Most successful people in the world out of USC? That's funny. Try looking at academic rankings (USNWR), Nobel Laureates, and too many parameters to list. But if you want to believe that USC is a better school, keep deluding yourself. Even your fellow trojans won't come to your side on this issue.
2. If you have to resort to talking about money to make yourself feel better, you are most certainly a trojan. It's sad that you think your comment makes you look good. And here's the big difference between us: I'm one of those rare Bruins, being an Ivy-League grad, UCLA for grad school, worth millions, making 400K/year, but I only talk about money when trojans try to pretend they're better. I'm still more proud of my brains than my car. That's what makes me a Bruin.
3. Your comment about SDSU just shows that you agree with my point, which is that DWalker belongs at a better HC job (BCS conference team). You think he should start at SDSU, a Mountain West backwater that gets paid to lose to Pac-10 teams. I think he should wait one year, then become HC at a low-profile BCS team...still much better than SDSU. Is it ok for people to have a different valid viewpoint from you? Oh no...that's considered whining.
4. You're trying to minimize DW's effect against USC, and that's just making you look bad. Ask any trojan if they'd be happy if DW left. If you can't acknowledge that, you're in your own little world.
5. Finally, for a trojan, you care WAY too much what Bruin fans say on their website. Seriously. you need to let other fans vent and maybe even whine, because there was plenty of that going on at USC in the 90's when UCLA owned USC. If you don't like complaints about Pete Carroll, then stop visiting UCLA fan websites.
You are not understanding the point of the bruinsnation.com discussion, which is to be expected, considering your background. No one will ever know what was on PC's mind when he recommended Kiffin for the Raiders (failure) or when he recommended Orgeron for Ole Miss (failure) or when he recommended Walker for SDSU (....). The folks at bruinsnation.com are simply pointing out-- with their typical enthusiasm -- that
(1) the SDSU program has never had success and has been a graveyard for coaches,
(2) with an even average offense, which is expected next year, DW's results would improve and he could land a higher-profile HC job, and
(3) PC would probably benefit from seeing DW leave the Pac-10. DW's defenses, even with subpar recruiting and a horrific 3-and-out offense, kept USC to 13, 24, and 28 points in the last 3 years. No other DC in all of college football has shown such great ability to do so much with so little.
You can't dispute any of the three points. It's amazing that you would want to question why UCLA fans, on a UCLA sports website, would discuss these points when a PC recommendation may deprive them of a pretty good recruiter/DC. What's even more amazing is that you would try to say that Karl Dorrell shouldn't have been fired, because he averaged more wins. That's like saying that Steve Lavin is a better coach than Ben Howland, because Howland went 11-17 in his first year. You're brilliant.
Compare our posts. I'm organized, got the actual facts. You're complaining about why UCLA fans are mistreating poor Pete Carroll.
Now, who's being whiny?
The Bruin fans at bruinsnation.com are skeptical because the SDSU job is beneath what DWalker deserves. Read the original article by Brian Dohn, and read the subsequent blogposts. Knowing that the UCLA defense has fought USC well for the past 3 straight years, and knowing that better coaching jobs shoud be open soon, isn't it reasonable to question if Pete Carroll is hoping to see DWalker leave the Pac-10?
Furthermore: Did Pete Carroll call Univ. of Washington this year to support Dwalker as a coaching candidate? Of course not. Pete Carroll's motives may be entirely honorable, but some of the data is not consistent with that, and that's why there is discussion.
Of course, a moronic trojan can barely read, so I'm probably wasting my fingertip strength typing this.

In football, this is true. UCLA needs to learn how to flaunt rules, make payments to athletes, and condone criminal athletes. Click on this link to see the perfect blueprint:
http://www.bruinsnation.com/2008/5/15/508939/pete-carroll-tim-floyd-usc
Until then, USC will continue to win more football games, which of course is more important than fair competition, academic superiority, and overall national titles. Geez, when will UCLA ever learn?
If UCLA Bruins = Buffalo Bills,
then USC Trojans Basketball = ...
Well, I guess there is no NFL comparison to a USC team that has won exactly two outright conference titles in SIXTY SEVEN YEARS.
Your distinguished basketball history certainly qualifies you to speak on this topic. Thanks for (yet another) brilliant USC alumnus comment.
UCLA has 100 titles, 70 in men's sports. That's not "mostly women's sports."
USC has 73 men's titles, mostly from the 1920's through 1970's.
UCLA has 70 men's titles, all after 1950, and will easily surpass USC within 2-3 yrs., given that UCLA has won a men's title nearly every year for 15 years.
USC has more individual men's titles, mostly track/field and tennis (the same sports you like to put down).
No respect for 100 NCAA championships? It's easy to hate on the things that someone else has, that you can't have....
He brags about a "private education." But UCLA (yes, that public school) has ALWAYS been ranked above USC. Period.
He brags about wealth. But using wealth to cheat means that you have no honor. It means that you don't have the courage to compete fairly.
Typical USC grad. Trying to brag about something he just doesn't have. No intelligence and no honor = ...well, that's why everyone outside of Figueroa Street sees SC grads as slimy and stupid.
And by the way, I'm an Ivy League grad with WAY more money than you.
Will UCLA out-recruit USC? Maybe.
But here's the important message behind the hype: By retaining Walker as DC and landing Chow as OC, Neuheisel has ensured that UCLA football will be armed with better decision-making and game preparation than under any previous coach in its history. It also signifies a major (financial) commitment toward football, which UCLA had never previously cared much about. HUGE steps for an under-achieving program. Should be interesting...
1. Get paid.
2. Frequent trouble with the law.
3. No academics or reading; just football.
Hmmm. As a USC "student", it appears that Chilo Rachal has been perfectly prepared for the NFL.
The UCLA faithful know that AD Dan Guerrero will ignore this nonsense and hire an experienced coach who will take UCLA to the next level. The program is a sleeping giant just waiting for strong leadership.
And LSH99, you obviously have no idea how hard it is to get into UCLA. The school receives more applications than any university in the United States. Ask anyone familiar with the admissions process around here, and they'll tell you about all the 4.0 students being rejected by UCLA.
