what this means is that SocttBoras doesn't want to take a 'commission cut'! Damon did a good job for the Yankees, but he is not Derek Jeter ... a one-year deal with a modest bump from what he made last year would be appropriate.

the Yankees should have gotten Halladay when they had the chance -- they have no one better -- keeping Sabathia, Burnett and Pettitte and adding Halladay would have been worth any price -- even Joba and Hughes together can't match a reliable Halladay, who would be/is better than Burnett and Pettitte ... certaily Gaudin and Mitre and those other yahoos are not going to carry the Yankees through a 7-game series .....

Yankees made a big mistake not getting Santana, and they most likely will not get Halladay even though Wang is gone, and CC is erratic at best ... old adage -- if you're not improving, you're falling behind ... Yankees need to keep getting better, and they need another quality starter ... Pettitte always tires and begins to fail during second half of season and they've go no one to 'go to' in August-September ... Mitre is not Halladay!

for all the money these guys make, one would think they would take better care of themselves -- perhaps merit/incentive pay would help -- a base salary plus 'rewards' for number of games played, RBI, etc - with deductions for 'runners left in scoring position' and 'blown saves'

okay ... so what? does anyone think that, based on these 'statistics,' the Yankees are going to replace Jeter this coming season, or the next, or the next? the Yankees will keep Jeter at shortstop as long as HE wants to play. in the end, this is just fodder for the Yankees-haters. nothing more, nothing less. and it may or may not give various agents material to use when they seek to negotiate and/or renegotiate player contracts. all these numbers mean NOTHING during an actual game.
