I didn't realize emo kids followed football.
"Wow, your team might have 6 wins? In one season? I'm so jealous..."
Just kidding, Raider-dom...
It's funny how to two craziest owners are at the ends of this list. Just think, one day, Jerry Jones too will be the one clinging to his his once proud team, holding out for TWO more superbowl until he retires/dies....
There's a potential that all three might be better this year...though the most questionable is whether Kerry Collins can be effective again. Veteran/journeyman QBs never seem to put consecutive good years together, aside from Garcia. Maybe that's why they move around so much...(duh!)
What the Steelers other rivalries, other than AFC North? Cowboys kind of...maybe historically. I'm having trouble thinking of one, any help???
Baltimore has crappy weather too that people don't like and complain about. Winters have a lot of ice and slush. Summer is humid as Al Roker's butt. Fact is, there's more "liveable" places in America.
I acknowledge that it's the winningest franchise in the NFL currently, so they have a right to be proud. Does it make it any less obnoxious? No. I don't think I'm biased. I also know Baltimore fans have a general way about them, too. Different cities have different personalities. Pittsburgh's personality is very much ingrained to the Steelers, more than the Penguins and Pirates. I hear Green Bay/Wisconsin is that way too with the Packers.
There was a piece last year ranking the NFL stadiums experiences for a home game...Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and Denver were the top 4 ranked. In which order, I don't know, I just remember those 4 at the top. I think Green Bay was first.
Plus, they're a rival team to my loyalties! What do you expect? Yankee and Red Sox fans annoy the hell out of me to.
Still, I don't think I'm biased...Pittsburgh is just a very unique place.
The fact is Baltimore and Pittsburgh are very similar...two of the last "blue collar cities" left in America. Football teams are similar. Baseball teams suck now, but have a rich history. Cities that started to die but experienced a new life the past 15 years or so...
Two, I lived two and a half months in Pittsburgh last year during football season. The technology industry renassaince Pittsburgh has experienced is still young and brings in a lot of people not from the area. I worked with Emerson, one of the bigger companies in Pittsburghs techonology sector and not many are "pittsburgh fans." The bigger majority of Pittsburgh fans are blue collar and the Steelers have always been sort of a symbol for that.
Pittsburgh fans has a very well-known cliche and I can't say it's not well deserved.
I'm actually a very well traveled person and I speak out of experience of knowing the area, jackass.
As much as I dislike the Steelers, I recognize it's a healthy hatred. Like Wes Mantooth to Ron Burgundy, "From deep down in my stomach, with every inch of me, I pure, straight hate you. But goddammit, do I respect you!"
Can't say the same about their fans. Steeler fans are embarassing, or at least there's a large group that embarass all of Steeler fandom, I should say. They get cutoff from the rest of the world up in Allegheny I guess, destined to remain primitive.
Here's an example of Pittsburgh's fan mentality...at the Pittsburgh airport there are two statues across from each other. One is George Washington, the other is Franco. Welcome to Pittsburgh.
There's a football game and than there's a Steelers-Ravens game. Even when the teams suck, they still go at it. One team can be down 30 points, and still try to kill the other team every play. It's awesome.
Anyone remember the 2007 last game of the season between these two?
...Neither were particularly good. Steelers won the division by default. The last game, these two meet and it was advantageous to both teams if the Steelers won: Ravens would get a better draft pick, Steelers would get to play Tennessee/Cleveland in the playoffs instead of the Jaguars (who were easily the third best team in the AFC, behind an amazing Colts and the once-in-a-generation Patriots). What happens? These two play like it's the superbowl. Be it a really sloppy superbowl because they both sucked, but the effort was there. Ravens came away with the win, thus getting a later draft pick (though that pick was Flacco, I believe) and Steelers got an invitation to host a loss against the Jaguars.
