New York is not for everybody and would drive most people nuts. The weather isn't good, it is extremely expensive, it is crowded, loud and it's public schools aren't what most of us want for our kids. New York has a great deal to do and see for sure but that translates to me as someplace to visit, (which I have often and enjoyed myself) but I personally would never want to live there. What makes people happy is subjective. I live on the beach down in southeastern NC and wouldn't trade it for anything and I imagine someone living in NYC would say the same for there hometown.
