I'd love to see them go back to 154 but I hate double headers. With the games 3 1/2 to 4 hours long it's just too much.

I feel pitchers especially are rushed to the majors. Everyone loves to talk about how pitchers in the old days threw 300 innings but they also waited longer before reaching the majors. Nolan Ryan didn't hit 200 innings in a year until he was 25.

He didn't manage the Yanks to the WS to my knowledge. Was he the manager in 1981? I still can't forgive Steinbrenner for pissing him off to the point he wasn't at the stadium for 15 years.

Joe killed more then Proctors arm. By the time he left the Yanks Stanton was the 5th all time in Yankee appearances. There was another guy they got from Tampa Joe worked until he blew his arm out right before Proctor but I forget his name. Strange lookin dude with black eyes.

I loved Billy but you're dead on about his demons.

Lemon was the most laid back manager I've ever seen. Perfect for after Billy who imploded that year.

You're right about Girardi.

I would have liked to see Piniella and Howser a better shot but that was in Steinbrenners "Trade for the washed up guys" years and I don't think anyone could have won.

With the Mariano thing, I said 1996 when Wettland was still here and they had Nelson, Medoza, Weathers and Stanton in the pen. It was Joe that put him out there for 100 innings when the year before Showalter didn't use him at all. Or at least until it was too late. The closer thing was a given after that season.

The Yankee core players came of age under Torre so I guess he gets no credit for their development.

I'm not saying he is a Hall of Fame manager but the to say he sucks is wrong. And the one year he had a decent team in Atlanta they went to the playoffs.

No one could have won with those Mets teams he managed.

I missed that part. What a waste. There is no comparison. AI is a punk who hoisted up shots like he was the only one on the court. Granted his team made that necessary on occasion. Michael made everyone around him better. AI did not.

Joe got a lot of contributions is big spots from guys like Graham Lloyd, David Weathers, Chad Curtis, Shane Spenser, Jose Vizciano, Shawn Cachon, Jim Leyritz among others. He was also the one who decided Mariano would be the bullpen in 96 (101 innings, 130 K's, 1 HR) even though he had other guys with more experience.

Considering from the DNA samples they found in her drawers she wanted it from 2 or 3 guys that night. Gotta love KObe, having his wife i the hotel didn't even slow him down. And the best part was once he was accused of rape his jersey sales went through the roof.
