Posted Wednesday November 02, 2011, About: Joe Montana ticked off at Notre Dame
Lost here in the normal father-son bs (I've witnessed a father berating his 4-yr-old for flag football performance, sick) is that Montana is "obliquely" registering the fact that the current coach has to go...and on a fast train. The rising star and next great coach is at Vanderbilt. On the other hand, he's so damn good that he'd probably tell 'em to shove it at ND. With Franklin doing the impossible; taking the Commodores to the top, which I believe he will, he can bide his time and one day ask his kids what they'd do if "Saban money" was being dangled at them. I'm so impressed by Franklin that I'm sure he'll be grooming a capable successor at Vandy and he won't leave the cupboard bare. Why? Because he's a class act and in these days of poor role models, he's in a rarified atmosphere. Vandy can get the recruits that Stanford and Notre Dame go after (an academic hurdle for all three) and if you don't think brains matter in football, there's a QB in Buffalo that suggests otherwise.
