To clarify, if pot becomes legal this season in the NFL, Browner could still be serving a suspension for what is now legal.

It's somewhat funny that this discussion is happening less than half a season after Browner got suspended for a season for smoking pot.
Posted Monday November 18, 2013, About: AP now part of Vikes' problem
If Peterson has had any problem this season, it's that his coach hasn't been using him enough. Your quarterbacks this season have been Ponder, Cassel, and Freeman, yet your coach thinks that an appropriate game plan is to air it out? Some games this season AP has rushed on fewer than 25% of offensive snaps. What is that? Even Peyton Manning hasn't thrown to that extent this season.

Article: "Cards could potentially make a blockbuster trade, given their pieces and situation."

Hello false advertising.

Posted Monday January 21, 2013, About: MLB players, decision makers still leery of WBC
The WBC is an awesome idea that suffers from lack of support among baseball front offices. It also suffers because it is a young tournament that lacks history.

If baseball stays the course, the WBC has the potential to become a major event. However, baseball itself needs to stop treating it like it isn't important, as they do when they keep the best players out, or when they schedule it during spring training.
Posted Saturday November 24, 2012, About: Where Jays-Marlins blockbuster started
I totally get you there. Toronto's deal looks awesome on paper, and so does a lot of other things; and yet "on paper" rarely turns into reality.

But at the same time, the fact that "on paper" often does not translate into reality does not mean you should make moves that look bad on paper. Can't always keep dealing for potential or you turn into a perennial farm team for other teams.

Besides this move, amazingly enough, was not primarily aimed at October 2013. It was aimed at November through April, when the Jays are trying to sell tickets for next season. Because if they can get higher attendance and revenue next year than they did this year, the Jays will be able to afford a higher payroll going forward. That's why these contracts being backloaded is a good thing.

Sure Reyes, Buehrle, et al may be overpaid. But if they went on the free agent market this season with their pre-contract year stats, they'd be getting even bigger contracts, because of the inflation from the TV revenue. In another year or two, they may even look like bargains.
Posted Saturday November 17, 2012, About: Steve Nash's return delayed
This is a story because people actually thought Nash could recover from a broken leg in one week.

I never understood why people thought Torontonians would cheer for a Buffalo team.

Pretty sure NBA still has the worst officiating. Only in the NBA do people widely believe that games get decided based on which team the ref likes.

Still, MLB umps have been unusually bad this season. That Todd Helton three-feet off of the bag out call was the worst call I have ever seen.

Ratings-wise it's too bad the Rangers didn't win. The Devils are to New York what the Angels are to LA--the second team that no one cares about. Note again the story about the baseball player walking in NYC wearing a Devils jersey getting booed to death.
Posted Sunday May 27, 2012, About: Vlad preparing for MLB return
I'm pretty sure Vlad's future with the Jays is as a bench player/pinch hitter. He could prove me wrong and end up playing DH 5 days out of 7, or possibly even replace Thames (who hasn't been good at all), but I don't think they signed him to play every day.
Posted Friday May 04, 2012, About: Jackson could cost Knicks $40M over three years
Why would Phil Jackson want to coach the Knicks?

Doing so could only hurt his legacy. Surely he sees Melo and Amar'e and wonders how on earth that team could compete with Miami or Chicago going forward?
Posted Sunday November 27, 2011, About: Another NHL team in Ontario?
Throwing another team in southern Ontario wouldn't greatly increase the amount of revenue the NHL brings in, it would only split up the revenue the Leafs get. (Which could be a good thing.)

Still, would prefer to see NHL teams go to places like Quebec City, Milwaukee, Kansas City, one of Seattle/Portland, etc. first before going to Ontario. Maybe Hamilton, but that's it.
Posted Saturday November 26, 2011, About: Jays wanted Buchholz for Farrell
Have to admit the irony behind Boston starting off by asking the Cubs for Garza, followed by Toronto starting off by asking Boston for Buchholz, is pretty epic.
