Yeah I said the same thing this is a draft to get your role players. Bennett and Burke will put the points on the board, but this draft is heavily dominated by role players. The teams that draft midway in the draft will get some value picks at a bargin.
Cav's must want a top player and a future first round pick or something. Right now I think it goes Bennett, Len,Porter and then McLemore lastly Noel on their draft board.
Step 1 of the Cuban plan failed as he did not land Dwill and Dwight because Dwight picked up that option and Dwill remained with the Nets. Step 2 in his plan he has CP3, and Dwight in his sight. I think CP3 realizes he doesn't have a championship caliber team in the Clippers but he doesn't want to move on. He wants players to come to his team. This offseason we will see who really wants to win first right now. I refuse to see a better offering of cap space and talent than CP3 and Dwight going to Atlanta on a team with Horford. Horford is a jump shooting big man. All three would be in there prime and they could get cheap talent to fill in the pieces. The second option would be Dallas as Dirk is still there but he would not be there long term.
Celtics are trying to get something for their aging players before retirement. KG and Pierce are about done. They need to rebuild their team. It is either trade KG now or wait for Pierce and KG to retire then hope free agents come to Boston and build through the draft. Boston will have Rondo, Green and a bunch of ok talent to build off. If you are a big name free agent is Boston your destination? I can't say yes. The Celtics have guards that should be rotation guys (Lee, Terry, Bradley and Rondo) and not much room to sign a big name star.
He is not the center you want on a competing championship team that is true. It all depends on what he can improve on. If his FT% creeps to 50% watch how much his playing time improves. I do think he is overpaid though. They paid him based off where they thought he would be and the demand of the center position. It is a like a 10 million gamble for two years. If they don't like the improvement DAJ makes they trade him in year two as an expiring contract. They have to draft another center hope in 3-4 years that center is worth what they could have in DAJ. That is a lot of developing talent time there. A gamble either way at least they would get a starting center for a almost retired Garnett.
Porter probably is better than Miles I am not saying that. He probably will end up filling in more holes than Miles could defensively and hustle wise. The question is he the best of the best for your team. A difference maker at center is worth more than a role player at SF. Center is the hardest position to fill. Miles had a decent year and some good games with the Cav's and comes cheap. This is a hard draft to judge but I don't see Porter going first.
I hope Len drops to the Sixers. Look at the state of centers in the NBA. Len compares well to current centers. Give him a good pg let him get a little stronger and watch how much better he will look. Len will be starting for a few teams if healthy.
The problem is they see McLemore as a 2 and already have Waiters. There is no sure bet lights out 3. Porter is the perfect role player he reminds me of a Tayshan Prince does a lot of good things right. I can't see a role player being picked 1st. Varejeo is good but is probably worth more in a potential trade.
Athletic Big Z lol he has some game and that is a compliment. Once he gets a little bit stronger he will be a factor. Ankle surgery is a question but I think he is the real deal. I think he is a safer pick than Noel with a little more balance to his game.
This is what the NBA draft is a crap shoot. One or more of these bigs will pan out as a rotational player and they might not be from the USA. A few will be busts and not make it in the league. They will take long to develop but that is typical. Also it should go talent, then need with miminal red flags. I believe this is the year to get your bigs and roll players. Adams is one of those high energy types that play defense. He will get minutes as a defense and rebounding factor.
Look him up he did good at Portsmouth Invitational. He is very athletic can shoot the jumper but his handle is not that great. I think late first early second. I would probably go with Glen Rice Jr over him though if both available
I think they want Jordan because they haven't been able to find a decent replacement. It is a gamble maybe they see it as 2 year gamble he is 24 and they think they will know what they have by year two. If you draft a center in the first round you are commited for 3-4 yrs on a rookie contract at a cheaper pay scale say 10 Million in total. His FT'% is keeping him from playing major minutes. I will give him some credit he added a post move or two but he is still not a scoring option. He should be shooting 100's of FT's a day have a shooting coach etc. 50-60% FT would be a welcome improvement which is sad.
Doc is a good coach I don't know what NBA you guys watch. There have been plenty of good coaches let go this offseason. This trade smells of desperation on the Clippers. KG has one year left IMO could probably play another one after but that is it. Celtics need young talent and I guess are willing to take Jordan. Personally I would would rather take my chances in the draft than trade for Jordan set to make 10.9M and 11Million for the next two years. A gamble either way but he could play well with Rondo for 3 quarters.
He is still young but needs to play uptempo team. He runs the floor fast and better than most 4's in the NBA right now. He reminds me a lot of Asik and I expect him to have a similar impact if given minutes. His defense is above average and would give him minutes. He needs someone to work on his post game but he is only 19. If you don't need a signaficant scoring option from center and play uptempo he is probably your guy.
Dwight sees the writing on the wall. Does he want to play with past prime/injured former all-star Lakers (Kobe, Nash, Gasol) in a rebuilding process or play with a current all-star Harden building a foundation? Lakers are rebuilding whether Dwight stays or goes. The best thing for the Lakers would be to sign and trade and try to get some draft picks and young talent. Tanking next year would be a good thing as the draft will have some elite players.
Low risk pretty good reward. Sixers have a hole at C and SF. They need a 3 who can score off the dribble. I think he is a late first round pick or early 2nd. I can't see the Sixers picking him at 11.
Parker was clearly hurt in the second half. I knew he had to be hurt when they were running the offense through Manu at streches while Parker was out there. No effective Parker then the Spurs have little chance
Man the gear is real.. lol the gear is not just offense it is defense. They kicked their offense and defense into another gear. There is not another team in the NBA that can do that. There are some great offensive teams but not one who can combine the defense and the offense.
He really has impressed me in some of the highlight tapes, didn't watch him much in college. He is actually pretty good on the defense and has sneaky athleticism. He will most likely be a 7-15 pick and the 3rd SG selected and who the Wolves will select if available IMO.
MKG plays the 3. Oladipo is a 2 but I actually think he can play the 2-3. Bobcats are not trading for a Williams that's for sure. To me Oladipo is the safest pick in the draft you are getting a defensive stopper who is a slasher who has worked on his offensive game but needs to improve his dribble. I wouldn't count on lights out shooting ability but he is good and has shown he can work on his game at the college level.
Oh I agree I am just stating their offense is heavily dependent on Parker attacking the paint. The Spurs offense was forced into turnovers by Miami. Like I said earlier that was the best display of offense and defense at the same time. They protected the rim and the perimeter, stripped, blocked and really shutdown the Spurs last night.
