Posted Monday March 31, 2014, About: Vikings reportedly prepared to pass on Teddy Bridgewater
Yeah, get the declining QB who has won just 5 of his last 16 starts. That's the road to success!
Posted Sunday March 09, 2014, About: Albert Pujols: Mike Trout isn't in my league yet
If Pujols can put up 75% of the numbers Trout does in 2014, the Angels will be very happy. Same for Hamilton.
Posted Thursday February 27, 2014, About: Santana barely cracking 80
Is he willing to come back at the league minimum salary?
Posted Friday February 07, 2014, About: Stephen Drew wants an first year opt-out clause in next deal
So significantly underpay him. Offer him $5M or $6M for 2014. Then $10M/yr in 2015-2016. He wants this option to take him out from under the requirement that whomever signs him, has to give up a 1st round draft pick. Next year they won't have to do that.
Posted Friday February 07, 2014, About: The most untradeable player in the NFL
If it were my pick, I'd go with Aaron Rodgers over Luck. Luck has not yet approached Rodgers' level and Rodgers may well have another 6 to 8 years left in him. I'd take that as a more sure thing over the next several years.
Posted Friday February 07, 2014, About: At least 12 teams eyeing Nats 2B
The guy has nearly 1600 ML plate appearances, BA of .230, OBP of .303, OPS+ of 89. Approaching 27 years old. If any team showed me much in a trade offer, I'd jump on it.
Posted Thursday November 28, 2013, About: Cabrera wants to play ... first base?
He's the worst fielding 3B in the majors. Moving him back to 1B is a good idea.
Posted Saturday November 23, 2013, About: Ike Davis talking like a goner
These rumors always give one the impression that the Mets expect to get a lot in return for Davis. I don't know why that would be true. Over the past two seasons he has hit a combined .219. With a very high strikeout rate. His WAR values have been barely above that of an average replacement player. Hard to imagine someone parting with a solid player or prospect for him.
Posted Wednesday November 13, 2013, About: Who will Anaheim move for pitching?
Trumbo is overrated. Yes, he hits home runs, but overall he doesn't add all that much. His career OBP is just .299. Career BA of .250. He strikes out at a high rate. His OPS of .747 in 2013 is below average for a first baseman. There's no way I would give up a solid pitcher for Trumbo.
Posted Thursday November 07, 2013, About: Wallace irked by bench role
"This is the first time for me. I never came off the bench, other than about three years in Sacramento, where they were garbage minutes," he said. "I've always been a starter."

Say what? First time except for 3 years when he wasn't a starter?
Posted Thursday November 07, 2013, About: Meyer on Fickell interview: 'He better not have'
There have been so many coaches who have left their teams for higher paying jobs before major bowl games. Who have had no honor and no respect for their own programs.

I consider it very hypocritical for Meyer to say that it would be wrong for an assistant to seek a head coaching position in similar circumstances. This is far less disruptive.
Posted Monday October 14, 2013, About: Flynn already in Buffalo
If that's the case, then Flynn could have some great games!!!
Posted Sunday October 06, 2013, About: Cavs don't expect much from Andrew Bynum early
Pass him the cheeseburgers!
In recent years, the Browns used a #1 and a #2 pick for Brady Quinn, then a #3 for Colt McCoy, before using a #1 for Weeden. So you can pretty much count on them using a high draft choice for a QB every 2-3 years.
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Can Butch Jones do the impossible with freshman QBs?
Brilliant thinking! The solution to each of them not getting enough snaps is to make sure that neither of them gets any snaps!
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Patriots sign Austin Collie
T.O. is available.
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Rangers star 3B returning to reduced role
Although his road splits aren't nearly as different as his home splits. From 2005-2009 while with Seattle, his road OPS was about .795. From 2010-2013, his road OPS is about .852. It isn't usual though for someone to be much better at 33-34 than they were at 27-28 yo.
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Rangers star 3B returning to reduced role
I wrote that there is a significant park effects factor! But it isn't ANYWHERE near as much as his improvement.
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Rangers star 3B returning to reduced role
From 2001-2009, Beltre had one season where his OPS was greater than .802. In 5 of those seasons, it was below .730.

Over the 4 seasons, from age 31-34, his lowest OPS has been .880. I know there is a significant park effects factor, but this is still very odd.
Posted Friday October 04, 2013, About: Rangers star 3B returning to reduced role
Agree. If he is healthy come Spring, they would be crazy to move him to DH. He turns 35 next April. Many thirdbasemen have played years beyond that.

Most of their players are safe due to no other team wanting them.
