right now with the investment in him, you have to give him a shot since you will be on the books for him anyways and the twins aren't going to be contending this year. might as well see what he's got and figure out what his future holds. give him a little while and if he hasn't straightened it out by seasons end then it may be the same process repeated next year while they're still on the hook for him.
