Not a Romo hater but I think the contract was ridiculous given his W/L performance, but that's all water under the bridge now. If JJ is so convinced Tony is the man then he ought to pony up future draft picks, vis-a-vis Washington's moves to secure RGIII, and draft an O-line that can protect him and open up running lanes now. Why wait 2-3 years to build piece meal what could be built immediately. I would rather open all the Xmas presents today than one or two a year over the next three years.

Yeah whatever. I'm pretty much all or nothing. If at the end of a season we don't have a reasonable expectation of going to the NFC playoffs the next season then we might as well blow it up and do whatever is necessary to get the draft picks to get on the path to be there two years after that.

Agreed. I'd rather go 2 and 14 than 8 and 8. 8 and 8 does nothing for the fans or for decent draft picks.

I'm even more committed to starting over than I was when I started this thread (if that's possible). It's not too late. Trade Romo and Ware for draft picks now. Sacrifice Orton to the Defensive Ends and Linebackers around the league; go 4 and 12 for a couple of seasons; draft linemen and a new QB over the next 3 years and build for 2015 and beyond.

And Austin ain't the only one. There is a pretty long list of players who haven't lived up to the contracts they signed but are still in Dallas rather than cut or traded. This problem is systemic and not likely to go away anytime soon. Get ready for another 8 and 8 season and more mid-round draft picks in 2014.

Precisely Sweets. Austin is still a Cowboy. JJ should have cut him or traded him. That's why I say the Vikings got it right. Look what they got for an injury prone malcontent vs. what the Cowboys have by keeping Austin.

Because JJ is obsessed with showing how much smarter he is than everyone else - rehabbing injured players, drafting players with issues, or looking for the next unheralded no-name pro bowler vis-a-vis Larry Allen.

I'm with you. Best defense we could get would be 200+ yards rushing per game, every game and Tony Romo with a clean jersey.

Then why are they on the roster if they have so little value? Maybe that should be part of the calculus - if a guy isn't worth at least a 3rd round pick after 3 years get rid of him.

I'm with you.

Agreed. And that center of theirs is incredible. What a coup that would be at #18.

Of course I meant Warmack. Old Frog don't type and spell so well....

A 6 year veteran lineman that's only worth a 7th round pick? Really? You get what you pay for.
Posted Saturday August 25, 2012, About: Ok I'll say it....
Ok...maybe it's time for me to eat some crow or humble pie or something. DeCastro was carted off today during the Steelers/Bills game. Not to say he would have gotten injured wearing the Star, but for now the argument of DeCastro vs. Claiborne in the first round is moot.

Really? Didn't know it burned until after she got up? I wonder how long this woman has lived in Texas that she doesn't know things get hot during the summer. I wonder if she'd be suing if it was a park bench somewhere.

Carr is definitely the real deal. Maybe Claiborne turns into the shut down Corner everyone is hoping for and maybe not. I still think DeCastro at left guard next to Smith and a solid second round pick would have served us better. We will know a lot more by the time the Steelers come to Dallas December 16, but If DeCastro stands tough and Roethlisberger burns Claiborne a couple of times, or if Romo gets sacked 4-5 times and we can't run the ball because the interior of the O-line can't hold up it will be hard to ignore the missed opportunity. On the other hand, if Claiborne turns out to be a super stud, Romo's jersey stays clean, and DeCastro falls flat I will be the first one to admit I was wrong. But it's all water under the bridge. Now we wait and see.

Secondary was a mess but Carr was a major upgrade and might have been enough. Claiborne is a 2-3 year project assuming he's not too frail to play in the NFL. DeCastro was NFL ready. Put him next to Smith and the left side of the O-line is solid for the next 10 years. I'm sure we could have gotten another good player (maybe even a great one) with the second pick and Crawford is looking like a steal in the third round. Bottom line we could have gotten 3 immediate contributors with our first 3 picks instead of one and a project who is already looking injury prone.
