Tin Man's Comments

Berman's a tool.

The best thing about ESPN (besides the preteen boys' joke, "'e is peein'") during the past two decades were the commercials featuring the Manning brothers and Keri Strug.

Athletes doping equated to deals with the devil and no mention of the Olympics? Not even Ben Johnson?

Yeah, but given 'deal with the devil,' you had to expect my post.

Tiger is a cautionary tale. Jim Thorpe's life was tragic. Acknowledged. Neither has clear evidence of a deal with the Devil. Only one person in sports is surely in cahoots with Beelzebub. Nick Saban. He is Lucifer's Vessel.

The Indwelling ocurred while Little Nicky was in Miami. The apparent fruits for Saban include HC gig at Alabama, an obscene compensation package, being the first football coach to be featured on the cover of Forbes, influence over the weak minded and the young and innocent, and unparalleled success.

Evidence of the Devil's influence can be seen in the fortuitous hit on Colt McCoy's throwing arm taking him out of the NCG early, assuring Bama's victory, and in the second chance NCG berth which provided Bama brutal revenge upon the team that handed them a home defeat and brought them their second crystal trophy of Saban's tenure.

Ah, but the Devil never rewards his servants without foiling their schemes and desires in a manner leaving the bitterest aftertaste. Witness Bama's vacated games for the 2007 season which dropped their record from a mediocre 7-6 to the dust of 2-6. Witness also the 2008 season in which an undefeated Bama suffered a crushing loss to Florida in the SEC CG, followed by humiliating defeat at the hands of Utah in the Sugar Bowl. Again, in 2010, the Tide succumbs in Columbia to SoCar, then to LSU in Baton Rouge, before the most humiliating loss of all to in-state rival, Auburn in Bryant Denny for the final game of the season, one in which they had led 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter and 24-7 at the half. Though Bama did go on to crush the MSU Spartans in the Capital One Bowl on NYD, they then watched their hated in-state rival go on to win the BCS NCG and parade their own crystal trophy around the state just one year after Bama's triumph.

Of all the evidence given, the clearest instance of a bad bargain with the Devil is unfolding here and now, with the Indwelling of Nick Saban.

Red Barber, we miss you.
Perhaps we need to look at the boys of summer for a parallel. You can sign that baseball contract right out of High School. The NCAA will allow you to play collegiate sports in anything but baseball.
