It's not that "their player development system has failed to produce any players to replace the aging core" - When those players are being developed, the Yanks have gone for the instant gratification of free agency trading rather than allowing those players to develop to where they're actually useful to the club (thin Montero, for example). Besides Brett Gardner, who else comes from their farm system?
That's what happens when ballplayers spend their careers chasing the money instead of trying to nurture a team loyalty; they wind up club-hopping looking for another million or so and usually wind up getting screwed. Besides, with the big bucks you guys make, you really have no reason to **** at all.
Well, when you spend your career chasing the money instead of retaining some sense of team loyalty, then you gotta pay the price. Besides, you guys are way overpaid - you have no right to complain.
