This is a very tough spot for the SF Giants to be in... on one hand you have what was at one time one for the most dominant closers in baseball recording near Rivera numbers and shutting down games left and right like it was nothing...He got you to and through your first world series and is a HUGE part of the glue for the bullpen and team. What he brings to your clubhouse both on and off the field is invaluable and given his work ethic and history one shoudl speculate he will come back strong enough to continue to be donimanat. couple that with Romo emerging as a viable second you would have a 1..2 punch the likes of which dont exsist on any other team in baseball....On the other hand he is coming off a second tommy johns surgery, you need to resign pagan and scutaro...suctaro for sure and make some room for the furture on your pay roll. He is not a for sure for sure thing and 6.8 mil is alot of money to bet on his "on paper" status. I think two things...one if the Giants can I would offer him the 6.8 million and not make this a question. show him you believe in him and appreciate what he has done for your club and want to move forward with him with Romo as a second he will be able to have the time in the season to get back to form and you will be unstoppable. 2 talk to him about a "deal" where you dont tenure him a contract with the understanding that he sign for a lower base salary first year with incentives and graduated payment with incentives for 2 or more years contarct in free agency. impart that you want him to stay and that you will work to make a deal work with him. 1 I think he wants to stay in SF..and 2 SF NEEDs him for more than one reason. I sincerly hope SF does not make the true mistake of losing Wilson however they retain him because to Lose a player and person like that in their clubhouse would be a huge blow for a long time.
