Posted Tuesday December 30, 2008, About: Terrell Davis calls T.O. 'a cancer'
This is not about T.O.'s skill as a player (skill that is dropping off like a stone at 32+ age). It's not about his hands that are turning into that proverbial stone. The man dropped more passes than you can count this season. This is not about T.O.'s slowing legs, and reduced ability to get seperation from younger D-Backs.
T.O. is talented. Even at his age he's faster and stronger than most. He has enough skills that he can afford to lose some to age. He has enough "football smarts" to make things happen when his natural abilities aren't enough.
This is about T.O.'s mouth and his attitude. NFL football is a "team" sport, and Owens is a "me" athlete. He IS a cancer in the locker room, and a cause of much of the disarray in the locker room.
"All they we have to do is get me the ball, and we would be a better team" ???? Yet he drops the passes that come his way. --- Complaining when he doesn't get enough balls thrown his way and nagging/bitching/moaning to his QB... who in turn starts forcing him the ball to shut him up. -- Turning the focus of the team from winning "must have" games to quelling media stories about locker room disagreements/fights/uprisings. --- His attitude and his mouth tear at the seems of the Cowboys team FOCUS. The whole team have to be on the same page, unselfish, and desiring a team win over personal stats; and T.O> doesn't tote that line.
If he cries like a baby over not getting enough balls thrown his way when Witten starts getting a few more targets what is gonna do when next season (after a full Williams training camp) when the balls have to be split between Williams, Witten, Crayton and Himeslf?

If Dallas wants a to be a winner they need to end the maddness. Dump T.O., Pacman ,and hire a plastic surgeon to cause an irreversible catotonic state to Jerry Jones during his regular off-season facelift.

Please.. that call will not cost the charges a playoff spot. They could have scored more points at any time during the game. -- The problem is not the call, but rather the stupid rule.
"If anyone blows a whistle, we can't go back and check the instant replay." --- that's the dumbest thing I ever heard. EVERY call should be reviewable, whistle or no whistle.

Mix - to a couple of your points

1) 1500 pts = a top ten draft pick. -- Pro Bowl starting, league sack leading DE that is 26 years old is ABSOLUTELY worth a top ten draft pick. The Vike's certainly think so, that's why they went after him. -- As to "who" thinks Jared Allen is worth 1500 points ( a top 10 pick)..that would be.... every GM/head coach in pro football. ----

2) The Vike's do NOT have the leverage here. Not even close. The Chiefs held the player under contract for 2 more years and the Vikes wanted him. The Chiefs had already Fanchised Allen and were willing to pay him the top 5 tender. Allen's talent on the field may not have taken the Chiefs any closer to the playoffs, but it would not have hurt them at all.
If you want a player that someone else has under contract, that player has a top 10 draft pick value, that player would be extremely productive staying on his current team instead of comming to you, and the team that holds his contract already has a top 5 draft pick, and 9 more to go with it-- guess what? --- You want him?, make it worth our while. The Vikes simply had almost NO leverage. -- The worst case senerio is the Chiefs just keep him. THe second worst case is the Vike's sign him to an offer sheet and the Chiefs refuse to match--therefore forcing the Vike's to pay TWO first round draft choises for him. Thrid case-- well.. you just saw it.. The Vike's agree to make it worth the Chiefs while by giving up 1500 pts worth of draft picks THIS year instead of paying 1st rounders for the next 2 years.

Lastly, Allen is a great player. The Vike's will be very happy with the production he adds to the team. I'm very very sorry to see Allen go from my Red and Gold, but I applaud Carl Peterson for being astute enough to finally accecpt the fact that if you are going to rebuild you have to jump in with both feet and get as much value as you possibly can for your players.

The Chiefs are valuing Allen (league sack leader despite missing 2 games) at 1500 points on the draft chart.
1500 pts = the 17th pick in the draft (1050pts) + 48th pich (450 pts)
Thats why the Chiefs are holding out for the 2nd rounder also.
The Vik's would need to give up 1st , BOTH 3rd rounders + a verteran back-up to get to 1500 pts value NOT just a 1 and a single 3,

The Bucs, picking 20th, would have to give up their 1st, 2nd, and a 4th OR 1st 2nd, 5th + 2 veteran backups.

THat's just going by the point value draft chart that NFL teams have been using for quite a few years.

Hold out all you want Vikings. As a Chiefs fan I won't cry about paying Allen franchise tender this year, AND again next year.(yes they could tag him again next off season) -- I also wouldn't cry about trading Allen for GOOD value in draft picks for THIS year.

If the Viks wanna "hold out" and keep reducing the trade offers (as some here have suggested) that's ok with me. It's not like the Chiefs are going to be hurt by just paying Allen the franchise tender this year OR taking the 2 first rounders for the next 2 years from the Viks. -- Rebuilding takes time. Waiting 2 seasons during a rebuild to get full value for Allen would not be a travesty. I'd rather have the extra picks THIS season, but if the Viks want to try to low ball the offer and only give a 1 and a 3... good for them. -- Let them sign Allen to an offer sheet.. refuse to match it.. and take their next 2 years first rounders instead. Either way you get full value.. either LESS valuse so you can have the picks NOW, or full value and wait for them.
