IMO Tebow was pretty good at a lot of things - so he was a good college quarterback in the UF system. But he is not especially great at anything - which is why he will never be a good Pro quarterback in any system.
Hunter/Patterson are both pro ready and 'grade challenged' so will probably go. Bray is neither, his decision making is woeful, and he is very immature to boot. Plus its hard to figure how a pro team would evaluate him after the past year anyway. My guess is that he'll check out his draft rating, see who the new coach will be and then make his decision.
IMHO [worth about two cents] I think so. 7-5 and a possible bowl trip will cool the UTk 'fire' fever a little and buy him another year. But that's it, I think. He's simply got to show some ability to win a BIG game or he's done.
To an old guy like me, DD is a lot like BB - good enough coach but just not the one the UTk fans really wanted in the first place. After the LK fiasco, they wanted a 'name' coach which they did not get in DD. IMO still if he goes 6-6 or 7-5, he'll get another year if for no other reason than UTk does not want any more turmoil in the athletics department.
To my understanding, he's a good recruiter but not a great one.
Just looking at the UTk schedule, after the trip/loss to USC, the Vols have a legitimate shot at 3/4 wins meaning a 6-6 or 7-5 overall record. Add in a bowl bid/win [hopefully] and that's not a bad year. Not great but good enough to get DD another year IMHO. I just think that there were some unrealistic expectations for some fans for this year. UTk is still rebuilding and that takes time in the SEC.
Heck, Gibson would have just given him 'the glare' and Harper would have been backing out of the box. But Gibson also would never felt the need to publicly explain what he did, it would just have been understood.
If you can not feel sympathy for Mr. Seau himself, you can at least feel compassion for the family and friends that he left behind. His mother's press conference was heart wrenching and his friends all seemed stunned. I guess at the end he shut himself off from everyone.
I think that there are a lot of Cards fans like me who thought somehow, someway, the deal would get done - even against all the fiscal logic of the situation. So not angry and bitter exactly, just disappointed and a little sad for a bit. With TLR and Pujols both gone now, its kinda the end of an era.
I think that the Cards would have the same issues here as with Pujols - he wants too long money and too long-term a contract. Plus I think that Cards will probably just move Berkman to first base
The sun will come up tomorrow and the Cards will still be the best team in baseball. And I imagine Pujols will be fine with all his money in California. I just wonder what they will do with his statue in St Louis now?
As a long time Cards fan, I would like to see Pujols finish out his career with the Cards. BUT I do not want the Cards to break the bank to keep him. But if the Cubs are in the rebuilding mode, which I think they are, I just don't see them giving high dollar 'life' contracts to either Pujols or Fielder. Concerning Garza, I would be surprised to see them trade him away unless the swap was simply too good to pass up.
But on the Gundy front, I do keep hearing his name popping up from different sources. Not that I'm sure that actually means anything.
To my understanding, he's a good recruiter but not a great one.
then an offer of $210mm for nine more years?
I fail to see any signs of "diddly squat"ness in this treatment...
