Smith still has 2 years on his contract - at $7M a year, there's plenty of teams who will take that 2 year chance. Plus they can always do a sign & trade type of deal like Kolb and/or Flynn.

Why would the 49ers give up Smith for free, there is huge demand for a competent QB - they can probably get a low 1st or high 2nd round pick for Smith.

Smithy still has 2 years on his contract - he'll go along with a trade as long as he knows he will be the starter. Plus they can always do a sign & trade.

Why would the 49ers give him up for free - with the demand for QB's, they may be able to get a low first or high second rounder for Smith.
