If they can bring baseball back to D.C. multiple times, why not Montreal? Question is would the Quebec government let them back in? And would the province pay for a real ball park?
I do not understand why these owners don't find "deep pocket" egos (ie Larry Ellisons, Mark Cubans etc) and partner with them to build and fund stadiums. Most of these folks know how to raise the money needed to fund a project like a stadium. The SF Giants did it and look what they built in downtown San Francisco.
If the area really can't support a team, let them move, that only helps baseball. But if they could make it with a world class stadium, then baseball should be doing what it can to facilitate a stadium being built. Even the NFL helps pay for new stadiums.
Grit is what is critical in hockey and football. Baseball still requires talent. Giving up underperforming talent is one thing, replacing with over rated talent is another. They still have to find a way to pitch as good as SF or LA and not strike out in critical situations. It takes a smart baseball man like Bob Melvin or Bruce Bochy to get the most out of a team with few stars and lots of role players.
The real question is if Helfrich can recruit as well as Kelly has done over the past few years? As long as it helps the Pac 12 develop into a better product I am fine with that
Is it really a big deal? Honest does the ASG mean anything anymore? I would say the Warriors could use this as motivation to keep winning. But then they got crushed by the Bulls. Oh well. It's a non issue, but it did get local sports talk to stop over analyzing the 49ers.
