I cannot understand why baseball will not allow Pete Rose, the player - and not Pete Rose the tainted manager - to be eligible for the HOF since both are exclusive.

He was one of the scrappiest players to ever hit the field. Honor him for that with a place in the Hall, but continue to disgrace him for his egregious behavior as a manager, even if that means an added paragraph on his plaque.
