Hopefully these new owners invigorate the franchise, much like Mark Attanasio did with the Brewers.

Until you have an entire population that looks towards Native Americans as a "thing" instead of an equal.

That's what the real root of the problem is.

A lot of people know nothing of Native Americans other than what little is shown with the Chief Wahoo mascot, John Wayne movies, 10 little Indians cartoons.

I can say, in the past many tribal councils have failed their tribes through corruption and misconduct, but with more educational opportunities, we are seeing somewhat of a resurgence among tribes to take over their affairs and try to do what's best for their tribes in the 21st century, while doing what they can to retain their cultural ties to their ancestry.

Its an ongoing process without a clear blueprint.

First, I highly doubt you would do as you said, but humoring you, I will ask that you do so even though you knowingly understand that what you are wearing denigrates an entire segment of the population?

There is clearly no need for me to continue discussing this matter with you, as you have already defined your misguided reasoning.

Again, I'll refer you to comment #461. Simply because the majority of Native Americans were voiceless at the time of the team's inception doesn't mean that it isn't offensive.

It pisses me off, along with their little chant.

Or maybe it was a moral objection they had when finding out that the Washington Redskins were also a sponsor for the event...

For the most part, I think most teams aren't offensive. Off hand, I would say teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Blackhawks are not offensive, mainly because don't prey on offensive words or stereotypes.

Other teams have had serious dialog with Tribes from their respective areas, and work to ensure that the message they send is celebratory and respectful. The Florida State Seminoles immediately come to mind on this topic.

But the etymology of the term "Redskin" and the cartoonish stereotype of Chief Wahoo really deserve futher discussion.

If the mascot for any team was a stereotypical caricature would you still choose to attire yourself in that apparel?

If the mascot was a black man, would you show up with black face and cartoonishly large lips?

If the mascot was a Jewish person, would you show up with a fake, protruding nose and fake money stashed in each pocket?

So what you're saying is, all of these names should be grandfathered in, since they made a mockery of an underserved, voiceless segment of the population at the time of their inception.

They're not called the Cleveland "Dress up and make a mockery of an entire race and their ancestors" either.

Do you know nothing about protesting?

The Indians organization has shown nothing but ambivalence towards Native Americans for decades, why would they grant a personal audience with the American Indian Education Center if there was no support outside of Native Americans?

So would bringing back "Black Face" to movies and plays be acceptable, since the actors are just working and not intending to be racist?

I'd like to ask, why can they not attend to both affairs?

The NIGA has done a lot to ensure tribes aren't getting swindled by corrupt business partners or tribal councils, by enforcing strict regulations.

They also do a hell of a lot to empower tribes across the country develop profitable gaming ventures to help out Native Americans.

To say or think they only focus on protesting major sports nicknames simply because they did not want to be associated with the Washington *******s is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Are we forgetting the years of protest over the Indians logo, Chief Wahoo? If given the choice, I'd definitely rather see Chief Wahoo get the eliminated, however that's not the case.

Hell, just a week ago, at the Indians home opener, one Native American protester was treated to this sight, a man wearing Red Face. How any of this is justifiable is nonsense.

It would be a much shorter list than the advertisers would want, that's for sure.

That makes sense. Like I said, I'm not weighing in on whether I think he's a superstar, but your response seems reasonable.
Posted Thursday March 20, 2014, About: Thibs OK if Rose's next game isn't with Chicago
I'm not going to argue whether he's a superstar or not. I'm merely pointing out a bit of diluted expectations for those labeled stars and superstars.
Posted Thursday March 20, 2014, About: Thibs OK if Rose's next game isn't with Chicago
I think its merely a misunderstanding on the definition of superstar.

When EVERYONE is a star, no one is.
Posted Thursday March 20, 2014, About: Thibs OK if Rose's next game isn't with Chicago
You have to admit, the term "superstar" in the NBA is thrown around about as casually as John Clayton's use of "elite" when describing NFL QBs.
