1) I have back issues as well. Never heard of a medication that actually solved or cured the condition. All they can give you is some exotic form of anti-inflammatory. Or shoot cortizone and steroids into nagging joints. "Fixing" a back problem requires physical treatment to make sure the msucles, tendons, etc are not shortened or shortening, using massage to eliminate inflammation and making sure the joints are actually in motion. The same elements of treatment are what is needed for healthy necks and shoulders. That said, Buchholz should be getting regular treatment from a very skilled trainer/chiro/therapist ... massaging the inflammation out and making sure his joints are moving properly.

2) I'm not one of those fans who call players "fragile." I can't stand the fans who call Ellsbury "fragile." He had two fluke collisions with other players. Then was originally misdiagnosed pertaining to his rib injuries.

The issue with Buchholz ... he's been to a number of specialists. He's gone through the entire Red Sox medical team (which is almost 100% brand new after they felt they had issues with the staff) and he's gone through almost half a dozen specialists. Who have all told him the same thing.

What is he going to do in two weeks if he still feels twinges of pain? He won't pitch? What if he never feels fully 100% this season? Is he never going to pitch another game for the Red Sox this season? How can the Red Sox schedule and plan around that? They can't.

Buchholz has to man up ... or they should trade him. Honestly, he may be letting this injury get into his head because he's feeling the pressure of being the ace for the Boston Red Sox and the all the scrutiny that comes with (along with being accused of cheating). He may be using this, subconsciously, to force the Red Sox to let him go ... so he doesn't have to deal with the pressure.

I don't know. It's just a very very odd situation. This guy needs to pull his skirt up.
