Posted Friday June 08, 2007, About: Can Kings lure Giguere from Ducks?
I'll tell you guys right now, as a former Vancouverite, Brian Burke will not sign JS for top-flight money. He'll take his stacked defense and young guns, and pay Bryzlahoweveritsspelled substantially less...it may just be me, but I really find it hard to believe that Giguere is considered among the best in the game. But watching how Burke has operated over the years, look for him to offer JS a fair, but not outlandish (ie: the Isles) contract and tell him, as he told Trent Klatt, "If he wants and gets a better offer than that, I'll drive him to the airport myself."

If JS is smart, he'll take his 4 and defend the Cup.

And P.S. Rontheking, the Kings wouldn't make the playoffs in the West if the ghost of Terry Sawchuck was between the pipes.

Agreed. So yeah...that Natalie Gulbis (sp?) chick is pretty hot, hey? And I heard Annika is really a dude.
Posted Saturday May 26, 2007, About: Barca door open for Henry?
I think the lustre of playing for Barca has kind of worn off, last year they were unquestionably the best team in the world and it seemed like everyone was in awe of them...I don't think Henry will be as inclined to move this year as he may have been last year, but there's no doubting that he would put up (if healthy) some seriously fat numbers with Barca.
Posted Saturday May 26, 2007, About: Ditka takes Upshaw feud to new level
Ditka/Upshaw has nothing to do with race, or baseball homerun records. A little off-topic here, fellas, but I enjoyed reading your opinions on the issue...

I can't believe I actually took time out of my day to read this article.
Posted Friday May 25, 2007, About: Pens won't pursue costly free agents
ryanbatty nailed it on the head. This team wasn't supposed to compete the way they did last year, and they'll be even better this year. It wouldn't make sense for them to sign guys who'll be eating up minutes that they could be giving to develop their talented young 'uns...as a Canucks fan, you just can't help but envy the upside of this team. I'd say re-sign Recchi/Roberts for cheap and have room under the cap to add depth at the deadline, should injuries force their hand. At least then they'll have the option, as opposed to being hard against the cap in March.
Posted Friday May 25, 2007, About: Benitez calls for Liverpool revolution
I think it would be a mistake to tinker too much with this lineup, regardless of how much money they're sitting on. Hopefully Benitez will bring in strong character guys to complement a mature, battle tested team. As much as it's exciting to bring in a high-profile talent, to me it isn't worth it if it disrupts the lockerroom. Ask Chelsea how Ballack and Shevchenko helped out their harmony...
Posted Monday May 21, 2007, About: Kidd may ask for trade if Carter leaves
Anyone who thinks Carter makes this team isn't paying attention...Kidd has built his career, and his teams, around making decent players exceptional with his technical play, and it wouldn't matter if Carter was gone- someone else would be getting quality scoring chances in his place.

Carter has been a Randy Moss on every team he's played for, and after watching the way he dogged his way out of Toronto, I've never had respect for the way he carries himself ever since.
Posted Monday May 21, 2007, About: Two frontrunners for Briere?
Agreed, joec...I think Briere is a wonderful player, but mostly as a complimentary one...I think he'd be a great fit on the Canucks, but so few players in the league are worth the kind of money Briere might be getting from Philly/Montreal...if Philly, who did a great job of trimming the payroll this year, starts up with bad habits it would be a waste of developmental time for Richards/Carter, etc...I don't think Briere is worth more than 3 to 3.5 a year, and if anyone wants to overpay, be the rest of the leagues guest, I guess...
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Patriots CB stays in shape
The Patriots sent a message when they let Lawyer Milloy walk, and it was that they won't base their personnel decisions on, well, personal decisions. And that team has the view that no one player is going to make or break the team, and if Samuel thinks he's better off with another set of coaches on another team, for slightly more money than the Pats, then he clearly doesn't have the mindset the Patriots have been demanding from their team since Kraft handed Bill the reins.

The Pats gave Samuel the tools to be a player in the league, now it's his turn to show his appreciation. Do the right thing, suck it up, and enjoy what could be a really good year for the Patriots. Unless you think you were a fluke last year, in which case hold out for the money, you'll need it when you're wallowing in Arizona.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Patriots mum on re-signing Seau
Yasmeen needs two things, a willing woman and a miracle for his Jets this year, and for so many years from now. But mostly, a willing woman.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Lee spurned Giants' big offer
I wouldn't give that kind of money to anyone but a 20 game winning pitcher. As a Giants fan, I can't believe we offered that kind of stupid money to Carlos Lee.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Pats may add vet like Brown
To me, it smells a lot like a classic Belichick off-season...a certain aspect of the team frustrated him (in this case it's the receiving corps, a few years ago it was the secondary) and he went out an got it done so it wouldn't be an excuse the following season. The way he looks at it is, the only part of our team that disappointed me was our receiving, so I'm gonna make it better. Then we'll see how good we can be.

After bolstering their defence with Harrison and solid drafting, they won it all. Deja vu all over again?

Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Pats unhappy with RT's work ethic
Man, some of the threads really veer off and become **** contests, hey?

I wonder why this story would be of any interest to anyone who wasn't a Pats fan, and I've decided that any comment where alliegience to any other team than the Patriots of New England can hereby be disregarded.

What I'm wondering is what the problem is with Kaczur? How foolish is it to be on a team of this calibre and expect to get away with dogging it, especially after becoming a questinable starter? Man, if there was a time to sack up and earn your job, it's now, and he's blowing it. Have to question his reasoning on this one.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Avalanche to settle for Theodore?
Clearly, there has been zero interest from any other team in the league, and the Avs have no choice but to be supportive of him until somebody does...really a mystery to me how quickly his play dropped off. Stunning, really, given the consistency of his French Canadian counterparts (Brodeur, Luongo, Giguere, ...Theodore was once in this All-Canada pantheon of goalies).
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Belfour wants more money
ah, wingsrule fires off another sophisticated gem of a comment. Nice contribution, as usual.

Belfour might be right about getting a starters job, but jumping on the scrapheap in L.A. might be his only option. The bottom line is, would a team rather develop a cheap, young goalie in their system than sign an expensive backup who hasn't really shown that he could be a positive influence in a supportive role. I think Belfour got away with being a jerkoff because he was putting up solid numbers for years, and being a Leaf pretty much means you're forced to be a jerkoff, but now that he's a back-up his antics just aren't worth the price tag or the headache.

Belfour is in no position to be playing hardball.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Sharks' silence calm before storm?
Right, it's about playing with an edge, and using your size to an advantage....the only team that seems to be doing that this year is the Ducks, albeit questionably at times. I'm a Canucks fan, and I wish my team had the size of the Sharks. I think the Sharks are a club that, like the Canucks, can't seem to decide what kind of hockey they want to play...and their fans are hoping they'll figure it out in time to take advantage of the players they've got on their teams. It would be a shame for both of the brilliant deals that brought Thornton and Luongo to their respective teams to not payoff with some serious silverware.
Posted Saturday May 19, 2007, About: Pronger vents on officiating
I think we're kind of getting off of the point of this, because the question isn't whether or not it was a dirty play. That, to anyone who has ever watched a game, was clearly excessive and a dangerous play. The question is whether or not a one game suspension was sufficient. The NHL should not, ever, risk showing weakness when it comes to protecting the players on the ice, and to appear soft on a superstar like Pronger, which to me they did, makes the League office look like a paper tiger, and it makes we question just how serious they are about punishing headshots.

If he had received a major penalty on the play, with a game misconduct, I think one game would have been sufficient. Because he wasn't held accountable during the game, I think an additional game in the press box would have been a stronger, wiser statement for the league's top cops to make.
Posted Friday May 18, 2007, About: Chelsea to trio: take it or leave it
Would any manager in their right mind really rather have Ballack and Shevchenko than the backbone of their defense? I'm not a huge Lampard fan, but he's in his prime and seems to have his wits about him...but Terry is worth both those players for his steadiness, and IMO Chelsea would be retarded to let him go...
Posted Friday May 18, 2007, About: Two clubs linked to Liverpool striker
Cisse won't be an impact player for either of those teams, and if that's the best they can do it must be a slow year for talent...hey TrapStar, if you don't like football then don't bother weighing in, we don't go on dudeslovedudes forums and start bashing your buddies...
