go look at how many times malkin turns his back when he knows a player is coming to hit him and drops like a sack of potatoes when the player hits him... ive seen him do it twice (neil and greening) and several times in the isles series... shielding the puck is one thing, and id give him credit if he stayed close to the boards took the hit to make a play and stayed on his feet. But he stays 3 feet from the boards takes contact and goes down and gets up with a smile... if you dont want to call that diving then fine but thats what i call it... Your far from being a pens fan but very much a habs fan if i recall so ill chalk up your statement to sour grapes.
malkin dives more then an olympic swimmer and your saying another player should stop diving??? seriously......... karlsson gets 2 for a dive but cooke gets nothing for trying to do dental work on karlsson??? shows how skewed the reffing was last night..... calls can be missed but that was a complete no brainer...
All comes down to if Anderson can steal the series. If he can frustrate the pens and they start taking some penalties then the Sens can take the series, but if the Pens can get the first goal in the games and make the sens open their game up then i dont see things going well for Ottawa. Im still gonna say Sens in 6 cause Anderson hasn't let the sens down yet.
A full lineup doesn't matter when the other team and its goalie are in every player and coach's head, series was over the second that happened. Had the habs worried more about what they needed to do to win the games and less time complaining about what happened in previous games they would have been in this series....
I know your not being mean DWI. I was a pens fan up to the day lemieux retired but still cheer for them, after the sens of course so im not a pens basher. Just looking at some of the obvious selling teams im seeing O'brien from colorado, Sarich out of calgary has always been a d first player and would have been very cheap, maybe Gleason from carolina, and the move that shero really should have made was for regehr which is exactly what the kings did. I, like you obviously dont know who was available or the cap consequences. The players didnt have to be big name guys just players willing to play the shut down roll and have some experience at doing so. If you had your choice of Jokinen and Morrow on offense or Regehr standing infront of MAF whos been shaky at best what would you prefer? If shero can turn goglioski into neal he could have found something..... seemed like he just wanted to make the big splash.
Problem is that all that leadership is on offense, the pens dont need leadership, the majority of this team was around the last time they won the cup so they know what it takes to win the cup... what they need is some defensively minded players to stop the other team....
Do you honestly think that a GM that completely ignores his teams glaring weakness is the least of the teams problems??? Personally i think thats a huge problem. Shero has shown the ability to negotiate some terrific trades so i think it was more then possible for him to find some defense help. Im not talking a Shea WEbber caliber player but a player like Harmonic, a physical shut down defender. If the player had years remaining on his contract hed be worth a high draft pick, the Pens are built to win now so whats the loss of a high draft pick next year to address the glaring weakness they have???
At the start of the series if anyone told you that the isles wanted to play shoot out hockey you would have been extatic... and so was DB cause hes a completely offensive minded coach, but he has made no defensive adjustments and has not put out a shut down line against the isles scorers leaving it all on MAFs shoulders which was proven last year doesn't work. The question that should be asked is does DB have the players to put a shut down line on the ice??? Shero was the best thing since sliced bread when he grabbed iginla and co at the deadline, but what did he do... grabbed more offense to an already offensive powerhouse and all but ignored the glaring weakness on defense, a weakness that EVERYONE knows was there... So instead of grabbing Jokinen why didnt he trade for a shut down centerman and instead of Morrow and a mobile stay at home defensemen in the mold of say Mike Commodore in his good years. Id be looking at Shero more then DB. DB is just playing the completely offensive hand Shero dealt him.
OR.... the sens hit everything that moves, therrien loses his top and the team follows suit, ala game 3. What goalie plays wont matter, the sens will spank them again and go back to mtl to try and finish the habs off.
what a joke shanny is.... gryba gets 2 games for a clean but unfortunate hit but bourque elbows a player in the head.... nothing..... prust crosschecks and elbows conacher to the back of the head.... nothing, complete joke Ill agree that the 5 on 5 brawl should have no suspensions added.... but if ference gets one for a blatant elbow to the head then id love to hear shananagians explaination for there being no suspension for either of those elbows.
The best part of the fight is that therrien put out his 4th liners and fighters and since the sens had last change all mclean did was match what therrien did in the first place and watch his sens mop the floor with the habs.... looks good on therrien... even down 4-1 the habs with the offense they have and the abilities to draw penalties the game wasnt over.... instead of sending out a good line then can draw a penalty and try to get back in the game, instead therrien makes the decision to throw the goons out.... therrien through that game away for the habs.
gryba is actually their best right handed shot from the point.... not a big lose though.... i think the problem is that hes getting 2 games because hes a bigger player..i wouldnt disagree that he probly got eller in the chin, but i dont think that was the sole point of contact nor was it his intent. A player thats 8 inches shorter would have got shoulder only, so does that mean that a taller player has to crouch down a foot for a shorter player now??? Gryba is down a fair bit in his stance but hed have to be down another foot.... who hits like that.. no one... its a bad suspension.
very clean hit.... try watching it in slow motion.... both feet on the ice, elbows down at his side.... nothing moves until after the impact... cowen has barely any speed also when he makes the hit.... and as everyone pointed out cowen is much bigger so why would he raise his hands.... and i doubt cowen with his whopping 56 penalty minutes in 82 games would fit into the "goon" classification... hes a shut down dman in the mold of chris phillips, not a dirty player. The reason the hit looks so bad is just because of the sheer size difference... even with cowen slightly bent over his shoulder is still at skinners head height, its unfortunate that skinner got hurt, but you cant penalize a guy for hitting a smaller player who has the puck otherwise Chara would spend all game in the box, and if it were a big Cane player hitting a small Senator id still call that a clean unfortunate hit.
i think playing with markov while great on the ice ends up hurting him in the voting.... we all remember the year souray had while playing the pp with markov.... and so will everyone casting a vote.... does that hurt subban??
Even though they could free up 5.5 by letting gonchar walk that money will have to be used to fill his spot, they also have a few other ufa's to make decisions about and a pile of rfa's that they'll surely want to resign because of what those players have done this year to keep ottawa in the mix even with the rash on injuries that hit the team.
No team should fear any opponent, anyone can beat anyone on any given night.... Though id really not care for the sens playing the pens or the bruins in the first round.... doesnt seem to matter how bad ottawa out plays the bruins they seem to always come out with a L...... though im quite content for them to finish in 6th....
Thats why all the leafs fans are panicing.... Leaf hockey is "just missing the playoffs in the end"
