you can fire all the coaches and gm's you want.... but until you change the mind set of the media, the fans and ownership your doomed.... the vast majority of fans (not all) demand that the leafs be a contender or at least make some moves to try and be one.... even if that means mortgaging the future to do so.... and the media does nothing to detour this thinking in fact that seem to push it on everyone.... and the ownership always sees this and puts pressure on the gm to be competitive..... when burke said that he didnt need to REBUILD just RETOOL i knew the leafs were done..... cause it didnt take burke long to figure out that leafs fans though amazingly tolerant are not patient..... and building through the draft is a long process.... but at least boston will get some great draft picks while phil the thrill scores 25-35 meaningless goals a year for a team going no where....

milbury was the guy that took the "unreal talent" in the 2000 draft.... the point i was trying to make was that depietro was NOT the only bright spot on the islanders over the last 10 or so years.... just the only one that was allowed to develop and not get sent on his way for developing slowly

jokinen was... he was aquired in a trade with ziggy palffy going the other way.... but like palffy was sent packing before he could develop and show his true talent.... i think hammer was more about contract dispute..

i think moog is saying that if RD had spent some time and effort on conditioning and not just gliding by on his talent he would be in better shape and less prone to injuries.

the isles had plenty of bright spots just didnt see them.... berard, luongo, bertuzzi and chara to name a few.. they also drafted mccabe and sent him away for trevor linden.

colin campbell made a horrible decision.... for a league that has said it is against headshots and hitting from behind they have done nothing but talk about it..... a headshot is a headshot intentional or not..... i dont think richards intended on hurting him.... nor do i think of him as anything but a great player, but i do know that these atheletes when they are trying to score, or trying to avoid being hit can move there body anyway they want in a split second.... so im sure MR could have adjusted just enough to not take booths head off but still paste booth on the body..... i dont see booth making an sudden moves..... he maintains his course towards the slot.... makes the pass, looks up at the net and then richards headchecks him.... not an inch of booths body was hit.... hence...headshot = suspension...... but the league is to busy talking about doing something rather then actually get off their asses and doing something....

cromster..... i dont expect richards to show "mercy" as you put it..... richards hit was fine in the delivery, elbow in, feet on the ice, had his few feet of coasting before the hit.... but where he screwed up is where he delivered the hit.... dont tell me that a player of richards talent and with how often he hits that he cant make sure that he hits booth in the body and not in the head.... and he was coming at booth from booths blind side to boot.... and what really pisses me off is that this joke of an nhl with its so called stance against hit from behind and headshots has done absolutely nothing but talk crap.... i still see tons of hits from behinds and headshots.... just so the game can be more "exciting" and marketable..... how **** exciting was it to watch booth get carted off the ice.... exciting would have been for MR to paste booth out with a clean check to the body and booth skate shaken to the bench.,..

im with ya last call.... his head comes back to look at the net immediately... where booth screwed up is when he cut into the middle before he makes the pass he should have seen richards to his right.... and thats booths fault.... but dont tell me that richards having lined booth up for 15 feet cant make sure to hit him on more then just his head..

davep & xganarchy..... ive played for 20+ and counting, coached minor hockey for 5 and refed for 2 years..... so im not a "new" bettman era fan.... ive watched the video a ton.... booth doesnt admire his pass.... not even for a split second.... now im not saying booth didnt put himself in that position.... he did.... and i agree that when you go into the middle of the ice you should be aware of your surroundings.... but you cant honestly say that richards didnt know what position booth was in and that he couldnt have made sure that he hit his body or shoulder and not just booths head.... richards is even coming at him from the side.... which would make hitting him cleanly in the shoulder that much easier...if he hits the body and the head i would say clean, unfortunate hit...but all he hits is mellon.. thats the issue with the hit for me.... i dont think richards should have the book thrown at him.... but you have to start somewhere...... 1 or 2 games and a fine.... just to show that the nhl is not ok with hits like this... intentional or not.... requiring the players to show a little respect for one another is not a bad thing.... and having coached young kids this hit will be driving coaches crazy.... because you can be sure that every kid playing hockey has seen this hit and now thinks its ok to take off someones head.... and the coach will have to explain why its not ok.... you have to think about stuff like that... not just the nhl.... and xgan.... i did state that i thought neil(thanks for the spelling correction) did deserve a 1 game suspension.

Are you serious...... the best line.... unless your getting gretzky or lemieux in their glory days to play center there is no way they will be even considered one of top 10 first lines in the nhl... i would take getzlaf, perry and ryan over them.... and i could think of probably 10 more ahead of them..... it would be an improvement from some of the first lines the leafs have had in the past.... but cool your jets my friend...

dirty hit.... in every way possible..... i love richards and would take him on the sens in a heart beat.... but this warrants suspension.... why you ask.... the only part of booth that he hits is his head.... booth is not a beanpole... theres plenty of body to hit and he only hits his head.... and booths head wasnt down for those fools who think its is.... he had just made a drop pass to his left to weiss... imagine that, a player looking where hes passing the puck.... this was worse then the neal hit on drury a few years back.... that was a straight on check and neal got all of drurys body and only got his head because drury had leaned forward and neal is taller which resulted in the head shot.... and i thought neal should have gotten a game suspension there.... not because it was dirty.... cause it was clean.... but because these players know when another player is in a vulnerable position and do nothing to at least lessen the blow.... how hard would it be to put your hands out and hit the guy in the chest and knock him over.... yes its not the bone crusher that it could have been.... but who cares, how many people were cheering while booth laid on the ice.... no one.... cause no one goes to a hockey game hoping someone gets hurt.... the league and the BS nhlpa have to start doing something about hits like this.... he should get 2 games from the league and a fine from the nhlpa.... 50,000 for injuring without regard for health to another member... or whatever you want to call it.... but since the league and the pa are a bunch of pansies happy to watch the cash roll in, we'll have to watch more talented players like booth get seriously injured or his career ended because he tried to make a simple play.... be prepared to watch complete games of dump and chase.... cause whos gonna make that fancy play knowing that any opposing player can take his head of with no regard for his safety or fear of punishment...

i think foosballs point was that he was able to coach them to wins in a very difficult western conference and have them more then competitive.... but that they were just too young and faltered down the stretch... another year.... more maturity, and theyre playing well.... pretty sure mueller played very well last year also...

its toronto.... what did you expect..... they did the same with raycroft.... granted raycroft shouldnt be a starter.... raycroft actually put up more wins then toskala in his one full season as the starter argos.... then they brought vesa in and that was it for raycroft...... AR was made out to be the lone reason why the leafs missed the playoffs and vesa the second coming of christ..... and now>>> everyone is calling for vesa's head and the monster is the savour.... why would the coaching changes be any different..... soon people will be calling for wilsons resignation...

when i watched the sens-leafs game stajan looked to be the best leaf on the ice.... IMO.... heres an idea wilson.... stop screwin with the lines and tell some of your stupid goons to stay out of the box and maybe, just maybe, your more offensive minded players might start to produce.... if theres anyone he should bench it should be his "nasty" defense..... for all the hype they got for making the defense tougher (myself included) they couldnt even push the sens around at all.... in fact i think volchenkov pushed around more players then the entire leafs D....

what ottawa senator games were you watching last year gocan.... the sens were absolutely horrible under hartzberg... the sens were 17-24-7 before clouston took over and went 19-11-4 getting the sens to a respectable record..... the reason why heatley and clouston didnt get along was because he demanded all players play a complete game of hockey, which heatley didnt do so clouston did what any coach would do.... cut his ice time.... had heatley stepped up and played a little defense his minutes would have returned.... trading vermete for what hopefully will be the franchise goaltender in leclare was at least an attempt to improve the team in the spot that they have always been weak at.... ive never been a fan of murray but the trade for leclare was a good one, the heatley saga sucked but with his hands tied he didnt do too badly, and he has to stand behind his coach. You cant have the clowns running the circus so to speak.

i think it had more to do with the fact that the lines have been similiar in the preseason, and other then 2 games where they scored 3 and 6 goals, the other 5 they scored 1 goal per game... personally id like to see them try cheechoo with spezza..... see if spezza setting him up for the same gravy goals heatley was getting will get his confidence back and maybe hit the 30 goal mark.... man can dream... im also only asking for 19 wins.... 6 against the leafs, habs and sabres each and one against the sharks while holding heatley pointless...... im settin the bar low... dont let me down.

heres an idea.... dont worry about front loaded contracts..... dont give out no trade clauses.... though i gotta be honest.... id be bitter too if i had to shell out 4 million on a roster bonus to a player that is jammin it up my arse wouldnt you....
