one other way i looked at it like is this... when the nhl really cracked down on the clutching and grabbing and started having the refs call everything to allow the speed and skill players to showcase the true talent in a system that allows them more space. Essentially the bigger surface would just be doing the same thing just one step further, so now teams with speed, skill and youth at all positions would excel further, hence allowing teams like the hawks that are built with youth on skill and speed to further distance themselves from the pack. Even though detroit has some absolute rockets in players like helm their over all team speed has slowed in the last few seasons. Theres no doubt that lidstrom can still move the puck but after 4-5 red wing forwards they start to get considerably slower which would kill them in the long term IMO.

the probs that i saw with your arguments king are as follows..... detroit IS starting to show signs of age and have started to decline and even though lidstrom is one of the best dmen of all time his production is starting to fall off and with how hard the wings rely on him i dont know if he wouldnt get burnt out on the large surface in 82 games.
phx as fyvk said is a grind it out defense first team with most of the offense coming from turnovers liking to the old NJ devils... they want the rink small.
Wash wasnt a bad pick just that they are talented enough that they dont need the extra space.... and also aside from players like ovie, semin, green, backstrom and flieshman they do have a lot of grind it out dirty goal players that provide all of the secondary scoring which i think would deminish with the bigger ice surface.

im surprised chicago didnt get a vote.... i realize they are already one of the top teams but personally i think with big ice they would remain there.... turco is a very good puck playing goaltender, they have very good puck moving defensemen with lots of speed and youth so the defensive side of things wouldnt be affected... and of course they have tons of skill and speed up front and the leaders(toews, kane, hossa and sharp have big ice exp) not that i think big ice exp is important in a 82 game season giving that all teams will practice on it and get used to it.... and with the recent roster changes they lost players that played more of a banging style and will be replaced with skillful fast youth.... in fact i think they would be better served with big ice this year because of those changes.

Rice is a stellar pick... and especially at that price.....but he, like celek and greene has limited experience, 2 years in the league one as a starter. i didnt see tons of games with celek and greene but when i did see them i noticed they were decent blockers..which is a definite asset when manning drops back to pass.. and greene was the change of pace back to johnsons speed..... ive maybe seen one raven game so i cant say i know anything about rice. I was picking a team based on roles that need to be filled not just stats...

shonne greene over gore.... 1.2 mil for greene, celek over gates.... celek 500,000, and i would have manning or rodgers as my starter and someone like kolb on the bench.... and the money i would save by using greene and celek and kolb, i would dump into my o-line (left side for sure) to protect my 15 mil investment in manning and make sure i get 5-7 years out of him. Your team is an absolute fantasy football power house... but i cant see any team in the nfl spending 8 mil on a backup qb..... 1.2 for kolb for sure though
