Who wouldn't snub the Canucks right now?
Posted Sunday July 27, 2008, About: Anaheim to move Schneider
His effectiveness with Detroit was no doubt due mostly to the talent of his teammates, so he did make a mistake leaving the Wings; however, I doubt they would have paid more than $3-4m dollars a season.

I think they knew his talent was declining, particularly his ability play the body in the defensive zone, and weren't going to pay colossal money for an above-average skater when they have young talent galore.

Why Anaheim would pay that kind of money for a stats player is beyond me, but their GM is off his rocker... so it doesn't shock me.
Posted Monday June 30, 2008, About: Why Minnesota traded Rolston
My understanding was they let Richards go due to his gross contract, plus-minus ratio problems, and the brutal hit to their salary cap. Management was trying to pave the way to re-signing Vinny and Boyle and they couldn't do this with Richards huge contract and poor output.

So what do they do? They trade him for two players who they must sign (which negates the point of freeing up cap room) and trade away a bunch of future picks for exclusive negotiation access to free agents. How they can possibly financially survive signing Vinny and Boyle, while also hoping to sign even one or two more free agents is beyond me.

I have never liked Feaster, and this mess is exactly the kind of thing that can destroy the credibility of an organization that so recently held a Cup. They should have kept Torts and canned Feaster... I'm tellin' ya. Melrose is going to learn quickly that the game changes pretty fast in a decade.
Posted Friday June 06, 2008, About: Penguins player revolt looming?
I dont think the Penguins have unbelievable talent, nor do I think what talent they do have is mature, experienced talent. I suppose this suggests that Therrien whining is ridiculous, since he brought a young, inexperienced team so far in the playoffs where more experienced teams usually succeed.

... this guy is an amazing teaching coach, has high expectations of his players, delivers exactly as he promises, has a great family, and has been successful in all his coaching forays. I can't see why anyone wouldn't want him.

If you want a nice guy, look for a priest... this guy is a really good coach. Congrats to whoever picks him up.

This is not a good move, they should replace Torts with a real coach... but their GM has always been a bit of a pushover, so I imagine its hard to find a good one dumb enough to go to Tampa.

Frankly, I like John and hope he does hook up with Ottawa. Back East is where he belongs anyway, he's no Floridian!

I'd laugh if Detroit picked him up for a bargain and created a stud out of him. LOL... that would be funny.

It is inappropriate, not indecent, to create distractions in an organization (that just eliminated Colorado) currently playing in the Western Conference Finals by asking a question like this.

I hate reporters who pull crap like this, undoubtedly to try to create news where none exists.

Sorry, Danny... if you want sympathy and fair play you joined the wrong team!!
Posted Tuesday May 13, 2008, About: Crosby questions 'no-goal' call
The referee made an incorrect call, albeit a very difficult one. We also have to understand that the referee didn't have the luxury of slow-motion or replays to make his call in nano-seconds.

The replay judge had no choice but to uphold the incorrect call, as much as I hate saying it and as little as I like the Flyers. You can't change the rules while looking at a replay, so it had to be upheld.

Fact is... that WAS a goal and we all know it. In fact, by taking computerized measurements you could prove it.

... and NO, I am not a Dallas (cough) North Stars fan
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Stars, Red Wings trade nasty words
For Osgood to have such little regard for the future success of his team, by jeopardizing his participation and taking a poke at the face of an opponent, is both incredibly selfish and stupid.

Not only does it show horrible sportsmanship, but not much class either. He's just lucky he didn't break a nose, knock out a couple teeth, or catch Ribeiro's eye... if he had, the Wings would be playing Hasek and lose serious momentum. If I were his coach, at any other level, I'd bench him.

It's easy to minimize this incident, since nobody was hurt, but punitive sanctions are meant to teach a lesson and prevent incidents in the future. If you only take serious action when someone is hurt or put out of the lineup, what kind of message does that send to young players?

This is a perfect distraction for Dallas and one the Wings cannot afford. All Osgood did was motivate a potentially nasty team and make things more difficult for his team.
Posted Sunday May 11, 2008, About: League's next big star will be in Dallas
Why play for a stolen team in a city that doesn't play hockey and doesn't support its team in rebuilding years? If the universe has any fairness, this team will some day depart Dallas and go to a real hockey city.

Lightning could use this guy...
Posted Sunday May 11, 2008, About: Stars-Red Wings postgame incident
Regardless of the timing, both players should be suspended... and yes, I watched the whole game; and yes, I am a Wings fan.

The butt end of a stick to the face could easily take out an eye as easily as a two-handed slash could break a clavicle or strike the side of the neck. Fortunately, neither was injured... but that's simple luck and should not be the determining factor.

If Campbell were smart, they'd both sit a game and receive a significant fine. It would teach everybody that attacking a player with a stick is a no-no, even in the playoffs... especially in the playoffs.

Imagine the impact the permanent loss of either of these players would be to their respective team... which makes them both idiots for risking their teams' playoff chances and more than just a bit selfish for not considering their team first.
Posted Sunday May 11, 2008, About: Roy in line for Avalanche job?
They'd be smarter to talk to Tortorella. This team could use a technical coach with a mean streak.
Posted Sunday May 11, 2008, About: Roy in line for Avalanche job?
Why do people automatically think a great player will make a good coach? Very few make the cut... and almost never is a selfish player a good coach, like Roy. Bad idea.
Posted Friday May 09, 2008, About: Wild coach weighing future
The trap is not so bad, it gives a team-oriented organization an opportunity to succeed and helps create better parity in the league. Personally, I don't need to see 10 goals per game to be entertained... but I see some of you have to have constant, instant gratification or your ADHD kicks in.

Offense is horribly overrated. Give me a group of unselfish, team players over overpriced, selfish prima donnas any day. This guy is a great coach and will be badly missed by MN and by the league, but not by non-fans who care about nothing but scoring.

They were punished for this already, paid their dues (and they were high) and we should all move on.

We get it... this was wrong. Lets stop giving newswriters the incentive to write these stories, eh?
Posted Wednesday May 07, 2008, About: Avery's return up to Rangers
Doubtful that Tampa will mortgage what little cap room they have for anyone but a solid defenseman. And if they do... it'll alienate the few knowledgeable fans they do have.
Posted Tuesday May 06, 2008, About: Flyers don't hide distaste for Pens
Ironic that Philadelphia finds the Pens distasteful. Although I believe the immature and tacky behavior of Sid/Malkin has reflected poorly on the Pens and the city of Pittsburg, the Flyers are the dirtiest team in pro sports history and have no leg to stand on in this regard.

I have no love for either of these organizations, but loathe the thought of the Flyers making the Finals.
