The Philadelphia Phillies held a 6 1/2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals with only twelve games remaining in the 1964 season. Manager Gene Mauch was already getting his World Series pitching rotation in order for what seemed to be an inevitable Fall Classic matchup with Mickey Mantle's New York Yankees.

They lost 10 games in a row, and saw their lead over St. Louis disappear completely. When it was all said and done, the Cardinals were 93-69, and the Phillies were 92-70. The agonizing collapse crippled baseball in Cheesesteak Town for more than a dozen years. The team wouldn't return to the postseason until the 1976 Phillies won the National League East.

That was awesome too!!!

ECK: Your argument is silly. If being passionate about your baseball team makes you a moron, then I guess NY'ers are morons. But if thats the case I bet you wish you had more "morons" rooting for your team.
Posted Monday April 28, 2008, About: Delgado refuses Shea curtain call
Another example of how fans of New York teams are morons.
"I've got a great deal of respect for the game, and I don't think that's the place for a curtain call."
... Good for you Delgado
EastCoastKeith | 04/28/08, 07:40 AM

Actually its another example of how fans of NY teams pay attention. The guy has been miserable so far this year (and last year!) and this was his SECOND homerun of the game against a division rival. Regardless of whether or not Delgado wanted to give them a curtain call, I dont think cheering for one makes you a moron. But thinking that way about NY fans might just make you one

The guy has wheels thats for sure. His only problem in the outfield last year was he was TOO FAST. He would go shooting past the ball and have to reach back to make catches.

His hitting worried me, sounds like it hasnt changed much. Hopefully he can turn that around

Oso told us earlier in the week that the group that did a Star Wars themed avatar weekend was going for an X-men avatar Friday so we decided to join them, unofficially of course.

This group should have a Zzzzz-Men day

Hats off to you Mets4life, you are just bringing it everyday. Well said.

What do you want to do with Delgado though?
Whalers | 04/25/08, 12:03 PM

Thanks Whalers, appreciate it.

Sorry to ruin your day bkg320, but I have to address his Delgado question. I think that Delgado is a serviceable 1st baseman and our only option at the moment anyways. He makes a LOT of money so the spotlight is on him to perform. Unfortuantely, he cant perform up to those expectations. But for now, we have to accept him for what he is and mull our options at a later date.

Mets4, Do you mean the name, or the high quality and generally thoughtful journalistic entries?
nflyoubet | 04/25/08, 11:03 AM

The name. Let me know when he does that other thing
Posted Friday April 25, 2008, About: Angel won't eat Fenway food
Sounds like a Bill Simmons rip off to me

The only way that good pitchers will come here is if they are paid big money.
TheMorg | 04/25/08, 10:10 AM

So why do they keep giving big money to bad pitchers?
Posted Friday April 25, 2008, About: Selig won't punish MLB execs
Who's a great Cluster? Selig or Bush?
THE TRUTH | 04/25/08, 09:40 AM

Tough call. Bush went looking for something that was never there (WMD's) and Selig never went looking for something that was right in front of his face (PED's)

David Wright is not only the best player on the Mets, he may be the best player in the league
Posted Thursday April 24, 2008, About: What's wrong with Delgado?
I'll go see a game with you and Chris Hansen anytime. Delgado was a great player but he isnt a consistent hitter anymore. Time for a youth movement at first
Posted Thursday April 24, 2008, About: What's wrong with Delgado?
Dont worry Tiffany, you can still root for him at the old-timer's game
