Posted Saturday November 22, 2008, About: Cooper transfer appears inevitable
The cap is the biggest problem with the MLS for sure, but if they could pay him more they would. Hes kenny cooper for pele's sake... the sport still isn't big enough here to compete financially overseas. Close, maybe. Hopefully in 20 years or the sport will be a lot bigger here (it's grown significantly in the last decade alone) and the money will start to flow in to clubs so they can keep their stars and even import a few.

Im relatively new to the soccer scene (2 er 3 years) but I can say that I disaprove of the growing dominance of the business side in not only soccer, but all sports. quite depressing. Takes away from the folklore of it, i think. maybe i should blog it up...
Posted Friday November 21, 2008, About: Inside Donovan's Bayern Munich loan
man i can't remember the last time a soccer T&R got 27 comments... bout time.

Anyways, I don't think anything will become of it. Toni, Klose and Podolski won't give him any room in Munich and he'll be back in spring. There's my pessimist approach to it.

But since I'm in a good mood I'll give you the optimist alternative: Landon gets 12 minutes to score a late winner against Dortmund and does so in amazing fashion, shaking past two defenders and faking out the GK to slot the winner into an open net two minutes deep into injury time. German newspapers declare the next day "Donovan Tag" and he gets his own tickertape parade. He then goes on to captain BM to another Bundesliga title and a CHampions League trophy to go along with it, and his days in Hollywood are quickly overshadowed by his godliness in Europe, where he quickly becomes as hot as Leo Messi...

hm (cough, cough) I'll stick with the pessimist approach. I look forward to seeing him back next spring, but best of luck... (cough)

Heard this is goin for at least 32 million pounds. That's $62.7 million alone. It could be higher. Tottenham are gunna have a hard time matching that, even with some big sponsors

If Gullit is the leader of the Galaxy and saying there are no leaders on this team, who's to blame?

Posted Tuesday May 13, 2008, About: Arsenal to bid on Barca's Yaya
Yaya doesn't get the credit he deserves because he's surrounded by a lot of big names. When they leave he'll be one of the bright spots in the lineup. He was this year, actually, but the other stars threw a metaphorical blanket over him to block his brightness. If they all leave, I would think he'd stay.

However, Barca's ship is sinking and sinking fast. I'm not sure he wants to be the one to try and stop the leak while everyone else gets the hell off the boat.

Steveo you beat me to the punch that was exactly what I was going to say.

As a White Sox fan, I don't give two **** about anyone else's manager besides maybe Lou Pinella. Why the **** are your knickers in a twist about this guy? Are you all annoyed by the tiniest little things or are you just bored as hell?

I wasn't even aware Milan was after him
Posted Saturday May 10, 2008, About: Conde wants out of Chicago
He wasnt even on the bench in their game against DC United on Thursday. This situation is not pretty.

If this was happening three months ago I would have been really concerned, but the Fire's D is doing just fine without him. We just signed Marmol, which is a good pickup. I think letting him just go back to Columbia is the best option, but the Fire dont seem interested in that option.

Posted Friday May 09, 2008, About: Milan eyes PSV Eindhoven goalie
I don't know if any of you saw the PSV-Tottenham Penalty shootout in the Final 16 of the Uefa Cup this season, but Gomes was the sole reason that PSV progressed.

I believe he had two saves in the PK shootout, which was big bc he was facing another tough keeper in Paul Robinson, who had a clean sheet going that night.

Tottenham's goal that drew level with them that game came from Berbatov, but his shot was perfect and no keeper in the world could have stopped it. Straight into the corner.

Anways, my point is that in the only game I've seen him play, Gomes was phenomonal. Would be a great aquisition.

Boruc won't leave Celtic (I hope). He just signed a 3 yr extension to stay at Parkhead in January, making it more unlikely that he'll be transfered.

Frey and Doni are also great GK's, and since both play in Serie A already they're prolly the two I'd put my money on.
Posted Friday May 09, 2008, About: Carvalho: Ronaldo may wilt
History on the line here.

The Soccer World's eyes are all on him.

Chrisitano Ronaldo HAS to be feeling the pressure.

But what makes you think he'll fail? The guy is the best player in the world BY FAR right now and he's been on task for the entire season. To say he's going to turn into a goat in the final game of the year takes some cahones, I would say, especially if since it's based off of absolutely no factual evidence whatsoever.

If anybody's going to wilt it will be Carvalho.

But we'll let Ronaldo let his actions speak for him then. I have full faith he'll meet expectations.
