It is oh so difficult to understand the complexity of building a university community. Our regular vocabulary breaks as we encournter racially loaded issues. To help the media, please try to understand how admissions work (not just for a college, but also for any business). Example: You have 100 qualified candidates. You only need 2 trombone players, but ten of the candidates are bonists. All eight of the unnecessary trombonists may hve otherwise higher qualifying marks than others, but they are not selected. You set you needs and fill the slots, each with the best qualified, but not always with the best marks in any specific area. duh. Another way the media could help thinking is to envision orchestras with only drummers, and talk show hosts with only straight teeth. Oops, got the standards mixed, sorry.
