Sealy was killed in a head on collision coming home from celebrating KG's birthday. This guy was driving the wrong way down a divided 4 lane highway. It is nearly impossible to mistake the particular exit ramp he took for an entrance ramp. He had to be completely blind drunk. It is a wonder he was able to start his car.
Sadly, this happens every day. It just so happened that we paid attention this time because of the fame of the victim. It breaks my heart to see this guy's name in the news again. Luckily no one was killed.
Like most people in MN I am just sick about the loss of KG. Almost as much as 3 losing seasons with KG. It was simply time to blow it up and start over. So, if you're going to join the McHale bashing parade, then at least bash him for the right reasons....Joe Smith contract, fractured locker room, and failing to get the right talent around KG.
Did you all miss Team USA this summer? Any team that wants to win now will benefit from having Kidd as their floor leader. Look how much Phx improved with the addition of Nash, who many considered to be too old to take a risk on.
Kidd is the best distributor in the game. He never played a real athletic game; his game is based on superior court vision and excellent timing. Age hasn't taken either one away from him. He's worth far more than spare parts.
Also, since Boston held the Wolves 1st round pick from the Ricky Davis trade, the only way to get it back was to deal with Boston. We'll have to see who that pick turns out to be before we can fully judge the quality of this trade.
As far as McHale's ability to draft, we've been down that road before. It is difficult to name good picks because they lost them in the Joe Smith fiasco. BTW, McHale never drafted Marbury. He drafted Ray Allen and traded for Marbury. He drafted Roy, but traded him for Foye. McHale drafts OK, but his trades can be suspect.
You know why I think stockpiling picks is a good idea for a team trying to rebuild? Conventional wisdom. Teams outside of NY and LA can't usually afford to try and buy an instant contender, but rather have to build through the draft and hope to attract a free agent or two.
And McHale will not be fired. Hoiberg is being groomed to take his position, and when he is ready to take over McHale will resign.
Chicago was dangling Gordon, Deng & Noccioni. All nice pieces, but not the kind to kick off a rebuiding effort. I think McHale took the best offer. Cronyism has nothing to do with it.
I may be giving Ainge too much credit, but I think he sent Blount, Banks and Ricky to MN as a poison pill strategy to ruin the Wolves team chemistry so he could swoop in and pluck Garnett from the ashes.
"Most NBA players are scum"
Wow. Do you know a single NBA player personally? How do you feel about racehorses? Or actors? Players are in the league by virtue of talent, and in most cases dedication and hard work. That usually builds character. Unfortunately a handful of exceptions cloud our perception of NBA players in general.
"Money has ruined the league"
Money is a good "problem" for any league to have. The league exists to make money. The NBA is in the entertainment industry. The average consumer spends more money on entertainment than they did 20 years ago. The NBA has been shrewdly marketed in a growth sector, hence revenue increases. I would like to see players enjoy that revenue as much as owners. The money is there, because *we* pay to be entertained.
I don't hear anyone complain about how much Seinfeld or Matt Lauer makes, because NBC doesn't disclose contract details to the media. This only happens in pro sports. Management uses this brand of misguided public outrage to keep salaries down.
I remember one of KG's consecutive game double digit scoring streaks ending in San Antonio when KG got tossed in the early minutes for jawing at Duncan. Sad at the time but funny now.
Call me crazy, but I think ATL is sneaking into the playoffs this year. I'm disappointed in you though. I expected you to say that Atlanta got whipped by Washington who got whipped by Boston so comparing opponents like that is a worthless exercise. You got me there :>)
They manhandled Denver who at 6-3 currently has one of the better records in the West. I'm not saying Denver is the Spurs or Suns, but it's all we have to go on right now. Aside from Washington (just off to a slow start?) the rest of their competition has been teams around .500, so you can't say Boston is exactly bottom feeding. They're pretty damn good.
You know your team is good when your stars are on the bench joking and laughing during the last minute or two of a ballgame.
Far be it from me to determine what is OK and what is not.
Zwitek, you're hilarious! A minor nitpick with your use of "euphemism" which implies a sugar-coat and is the opposite of the point you were trying to make. But point taken.
My problem with the frequent idiot, retard etal. diatribes that you see on these boards? #1) People aren't stupid, they just act that way sometimes #2) It's too easy. Oftentimes when I find myself thinking that someone is being particularly thick I discover that I didn't see the whole picture. Once I do their actions seem perfectly rational. #3) It is close-minded and hampers further discussion. There is no easier way to convince yourself that you're right about something than to tell yourself that those who disagree are stupid.
You're right though...attacking a guys' intelligence is usually out of bounds. But man....you have to question his *judgement*, and that speaks to his intelligence.
The Wolves will be atrocious this year, but what would really sabotage the rebuilding effort is having the young guys pick up bad habits and bad attitudes from the likes of Ricky and Blount. I love what Ricky brings to the game, and I think he'll help Miami, but I don't want him poisoning the well.
With KG you have to take the whole package. He's not eff-en-heimering all the time off the court. Even his own mother has accepted that swearing is just another thing KG does well on the court.
C'mon Ray. He's not the first guy you've heard swear on the court, and this is nothing new. Read Miles Davis' autobiography sometime.
I dare say I have seen a lot more of KG than you have. If he has problems walking it doesn't seem to interfere with his running and it sure doesn't show on the court. He has never had surgery and the only time he has missed any action is when the TWolves were throwing games to save their lottery protected pick from going to the Clips.
Whatever kind of system Boston puts into place is going to look a lot better with Allen & KG on the floor.
