Oso: No, I wasn't making any assumptions. In fact, I even stated that this was probably cooked up. I was simply asking a hypothetical question on whether it would be OK to cheat even if it didn't make any difference.

I don't think you can say that what the Patriots have done is better than what the Dolphins did. You don't think the Dolphins would have won 2 more regular season games that year if they played 16 games?

The Dolphins also didn't routinely win by 3 points. In fact, only TWICE did the Dolphins win by 3 points or less. I'm not sure where you got that fact from. The Dolphins won 11 games that season by 10 points or more, including a 52-0 win against New England. So, you can say safely say that the Dolphins routinely won by 10 points or more.

Also, it should be noted that the Dolphins had to go on the ROAD for the AFC Championship game against the Steelers. Not a very easy place to play.

If the Patriots win today, I think they are in the same category as the Dolphins. They are the only two teams with perfect seasons. They are from different eras, with different circumstances, and different adversities.

I agree Darrell. It sounds like a story cooked up (by a local paper) to give the Patriots extra motivation.

Tunafish: For argument's sake - Is it OK to cheat on a test even if you would have achieved the same score had you not cheated?

Forget it. There should be a reward for winning the division. Teams in other divisions have different schedules. Therefore, you can't really say a wild-card team is better than a team that won its division. Just leave things the way they are. If the wild-card team is that much better than a division winner, they will go on the road and win the game.

I think its silly that this is being brought up right before the Super Bowl. However, according to Aiello, the NFL is drawing conclusions based on what the Patriots gave them and on statements made by the Patriots. That's a little naive if you ask me. If you were a prosecutor, you wouldn't base your case on evidence provided by the defendant and statements by the defendant assuring you that he did not commit the crime.

I think it's great that Crowder is keeping an appointment book... Why focus on the negative?
Posted Tuesday January 22, 2008, About: Deion questions L.T.'s toughness
It doesn't matter that it was Deion that said it, what he said was true. LT should have been begging to get in the game. Rivers was out their limping and LT looked fine on his 2 carries. You can blast Deion for being soft, but you are simply attacking the messenger because you are having trouble attacking the message.

And after watching the game, I don't think anyone can say that with a healthy trio of Rivers, Gates, and LT that the Patriots would have won by 9. SD would likely have converted at least one of those FGs into a TD.
Posted Monday January 14, 2008, About: Jones: Phillips firing 'foolish'
I knew the Cowboys were going to lose as soon as I saw Jerry Jones on the sideline peering over Wade's shoulder. Take your botox face back up to booth where you belong!
Posted Monday January 14, 2008, About: Cowboys' loss, Dolphins' gain?
I think FOX would much rather have a Patriots-Packers Super Bowl than Patriots-Cowboys. Although the Cowboys have the biggest following, Favre is one of the most popular figures in American sports. I think it would be a great matchup. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a Patriots-Giants rematch either.

As for Sparano... that offensive line of the Cowboys was awful yesterday. I was happy for the Giants though. They played much harder than the Cowboys. So much for the "Coughlin should have rested his players"' talk!
Posted Monday January 14, 2008, About: Why Wade may leave Heat
When Riley leaves things will change, He has completely lost it as a head coach.
Posted Friday December 28, 2007, About: Parcells feels pressure in Miami
Cam had been calling the plays all season until around Week 14. I don't think he is capable of calling the plays and being a head coach. Some guys can do it, Cam can't. I think Parcells needs to fire everyone (especially Mueller) and bring in his own guys. I'm happy Parcells is here and I trust his judgment.

This is GREAT news for the Canes. No more Wright and Freeman! Canes fans are rejoicing everywhere (believe me).

The real reason he is leaving is because he has no chance of starting next year. Miami has some great recruits coming in (including the #9 QB in the nation from Miami Northwestern). Plus they have "Mr. Football Florida" from 2006 who has been working hard in the offseason. Freeman saw the writing on the wall and that is why he is "jumping ship." In two years the Canes will be back in the national title picture.

I was just reading Peter King's MMQB and it turns out the '72 Dolphins did beat two teams with winning records during the regular season. Good article (as always) by the way.
Posted Monday December 17, 2007, About: Dolphins owner moved to tears
Since it was in the moment I doubt it was a publicity stunt. If it was, he should consider acting.
Posted Monday December 17, 2007, About: Dolphins owner moved to tears
Yeah, still a lot of work to do. Getting the #1 pick in the draft will certainly help. I'm not sure what they should do with it. Since they need help in all areas I'm thinking they should trade it for multiple picks if they get a good offer. Running back might be their strongest position (if Ronnie can stay healthy) so I don't know if they should draft McFadden.

Again, I was being sarcastic in my previous comment. But if you want to be nitpicky there have been several 8-8 teams that have made the playoffs in the NFL.
