Tiki's right! He's doing his job!
Posted Tuesday August 21, 2007, About: MLS diminishing Beckham's skills?
This is typical English bias against any league other than the EPL. It's the best league in the world right? hardly. Any logical person can see that there is excellent football played outside of England, La Liga and Serie A arguably have a better product.. The English will never accept the MLS, no matter how much the league improves. So let's just deal with comments like these as they come along.
Posted Friday August 10, 2007, About: Red Bulls sign Liberian prospect
The concept is that if we limit the number of international players on the roster, we leave open spots to develop American talent. It's not a bad principle, but I bet they begin to loosen up the standards as the league progresses.

It's pretty cool when an MLS side can sign a player that South American and European clubs were after. It shows that at least some players are beginning to respect MLS as a league and see the potential in playing here.
Posted Sunday August 05, 2007, About: Beckham out 'week to 10 days'
This whole thing is a disaster. Shame on ESPN for forcing Beckham to play in a meaningless friendly against Chelsea. They've sold almost 50,000 tickets in DC already. I love this game and will always be fan. But what about those disillusioned Americans who were only giving the game a shot to see Beckham?
Posted Thursday July 26, 2007, About: D.C. United denies Veron interest
I like Veron, and as a DC supporter I think the prospect of him joining our club is exciting. But let's be honest, DC could benefit from many other international options right now. Why would DC make Veron their highest paid player when they have other cheaper options at the central defensive/holding midfielder role that will suffice? Take Ben Olsen for example. He's paid pretty well for MLS terms, but only a fraction of what Veron would garner. Olsen does very well for United at his position. We don't need international help there. Why not bring in a striker? That's where United needs a boost, not midfield or defense.
Posted Tuesday July 24, 2007, About: Beckham likely out tonight
I like Beckham. He's a brilliant at distributing the ball, and there's no doubting his impact on set pieces. But let's be realistic, will he ever live up to this kind of hype in America? Yeah I understand that thishype is attracting more and more Americans to the game, but this is getting ridiculous. They should let Beckham sit and rest for another 2 weeks. Then he'll be healthy, and make a real impact, ON THE FIELD! (not just in the gossip section).
Posted Monday July 23, 2007, About: Adu 'within days' of transfer
Aaron Lennon more class than Freddy? I'm not so sure about that. Lennon has pace and does well on the wing, but when has he ever been able to take on defenders one on one as well as Freddy? Freddy has all the makings of a brilliant player. He will definitely develop into the skilled, attacking-with-flair type guy that the US has never seen before. Freddy Adu is the American (that actually wants to play for the US national team) that embodies where our youth program is beginning to succeed at putting out some quality players. Benfica is a great move. Portugal and Spain are excellent places for Freddy to showcase his talent. He'll get more time on the ball, and won't get pushed around like he would in England. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

This is great for San Jose! They have a passionate fan base. It's awesome that MLS is expanding. Cheers for Garber!
Posted Tuesday July 17, 2007, About: Beckham may miss Galaxy debut
I hope he's ready for August 9th in DC! This ankle injury seems more serious than the MLS would like to admit. I hope he skips the Chelsea game, treats his ankle, and gets himself fit for the rest of the real MLS season (not friendlies against pre-season European opponents).
Posted Monday July 16, 2007, About: Fired Real coach headed to MLS?
There's no way that Capello will go to Red Bulls. Arena, regardless of what many argue, is one of the top coaches in the league. I just can't see this happening.
Posted Friday July 13, 2007, About: City eyeing double Barca swoop
Castillo would be great for City. But I thought that Giuly has already said that he doesn't want to move to England?
Posted Friday July 13, 2007, About: Does Celtic want Adu in Scotland?
I'm pretty sure the writer of this article has never seen Freddy play. He has been, by far, the best player at the U-20 World Cup. Tactically he has been brilliant. He plays with so much class, and shows leadership on the field. The reason he hasn't been all that successful in the MLS has to do with a few factors. One, he never played his position. Freddy is a CAM not a wing player. Two, he plays on what is by far the worst team in the MLS, Real Salt Lake. And ultimately he has been pushed around. MLS play is very physical, and Freddy has been young and undersized. Now he is growing and becoming more comfortable. He should be welcomed just about anywhere. This kid is the best that US Soccer has. He is our best hope at producing a truly top flight talent. This article is typical English skepticism about anything that comes up well out of US Soccer.
Posted Sunday July 08, 2007, About: Manchester chasing Becks, Owen?
I don't think the Beckham loan/transfer will happen. MLS and Galaxy would be making a huge mistake if they were to allow Beckham to return to European Club football. Eriksson will land some big names, but I don't think Beckham will be one of them. Wright-Phillips seems to be the most logical pick up. A return to City could be great for him. He will be able to play every day too.
Posted Saturday June 30, 2007, About: United working out Brazilian
I guess we're thinking younger replacement after the Erpen trade?
Posted Saturday June 30, 2007, About: Why Rapids traded for defender
As a DC supporter, I'm troubled by this trade. We pick up a salary that is twice that of Erpen's, and the guy is 9 years older. I understand the MLS has roster rules about international players (Erpen turns 25 next year, from Argentina). But I still think that United should not have made this trade. He has a lot of potential, and we're trading him away for someone who is past his prime.
Posted Friday June 29, 2007, About: United, Rapids to trade defenders
Why? I really like Erpen. He has consistently performed well this year. This trade doesn't make much sense to me.
Posted Wednesday June 27, 2007, About: New City manager seeks midfielder
I think that Man City could push for the top ten next year, maybe even push into the top 8 and qualify for Europe. Erikkson is a proven, quality manager. Yeah he didn't win a world cup, but England's expectation's under Erikkson were astronomically high. It is still the same now. Anything less than a championship for England is considered shameful for the manager. I'd say that's high pressure.
Posted Tuesday June 26, 2007, About: Will Mexico dump Sanchez?
Copa America is make or break for Sanchez. His team hasn't necessarily stepped up over the last year. They seem to have taken a step backwards. He had the Mexican team playing well for the Gold Cup final. Despite the loss, they looked much better than they had in the earlier rounds of the tournament. If Sanchez gets a quality result at Copa America, maybe he can save his job.
Posted Monday June 25, 2007, About: Wizards to deal with Galaxy
andacagar,
He's had a few caps under the Bruce Arena era. He used to play for DC United too.
Posted Monday June 25, 2007, About: Wizards to deal with Galaxy
I've always like Quaranta. I think that he's a great talent for the MLS.
Posted Friday June 22, 2007, About: Two Galaxy trades in works
I LOVE ALL CAPS haha.

Were we watching the same game? Canada had flashes of quality, but the US dominated at least 70 minutes of that game.

Back to Galaxy, Donovan is quality. Quaranta isn't bad at all. Over-priced, but he has pace and good touch. I was under the impression that the Klein trade already happened?
