It's hard to beat Saban twice in a row.

And having an open week prior to the A&M game doesn't hurt either.
Of course a college coach who has a hot first season at a major program gets a big offer from an NFL team.

That's whey Notre Dame is still paying Charlie Weis.

He should take up acting.

Get a role as Jaws in the remake of "The Spy Who Loved Me."

They should go the route of Ottawa, and pull a name from the city's Stanley Cup past. (Yes, Seattle won the Stanley Cup.)

Go with the Seattle Millionaires.

More seriously, where does it leave Virginia Tech? They're slowly starting to lose the in-state recruits, both to power schools elsewhere and to UVa.

One of the biggest problems with the "guaranteed tickets sales" requirement for the schools is the secondary market (StubHub, et al.).

The schools have to sell the tickets at face value. Often, other than the NCG or maybe one other blockbuster bowl, the secondary market is lower than face value, sometimes significantly less. (I still remember an Orange Bowl about four years ago when Vippy Sue was playing, and tickets were available for $10 the day prior to a game).

Guess where the savvy fan is buying their tickets from?

Heck with the football. Let's see if they can keep his life straight.

(And I still say the biggest thing is to keep him the hell away from Decatur.)
Posted Wednesday June 12, 2013, About: Belichick already annoyed by Tebowmania
Keep in mind this story was from the NY press, who still want to make a story out of it (if only because it'll sell to the Jets fanss).

My two cents -- Bels is going to glean whatever Jets info he can out of Tebow, and then he'll be gone.

This assumes (a) the kid is still interested in USC in four years and (b) Kiffin is still at USC in four years.

Since these ads are designed for the TV views, I wonder if the Silnas will bring forth another lawsuit to get a piece of this pie.
Posted Friday June 07, 2013, About: Why Auburn's incumbent QBs should be nervous
But, back on topic, didn't Auburn play QB-by-committee last year? Throw in a new coach/system, and incumbancy means nothing.

As a native of the area, I second the Amen.

There's a new documentary about the music scene making the film festival rounds, and getting good reviews titled, aptly enough, "Muscle Shoals." If nothing else, look up the trailer for it.
Posted Wednesday June 05, 2013, About: Tens of millions flowing to Pac-12 schools
"Welcome, Pac-12 to a new day. So we've got the B1G at $300+ million, the SEC at $289M and the Big 12 at $198M."

The problem with the Big 12's $198 mill is that $100 of it goes to the Longhorns, and the rest is split among the remaining schools.

They'll probably draw more than the NASCAR race does.
"The Fusion's average attendance its final season was 11,177."

Which is about 10,500 more than the Marlins' attendance.

Just what South Florida needs -- another team to ignore. Then again, I understand there's a team in LA that needs to relocate.

That was also the time when Michigan State's (and much of the Big 10's) athletic pipeline to The Deep South dried up.
Posted Thursday May 30, 2013, About: One position Saban can't keep around
With that many QBs, it becomes a numbers game. At least when they transfer out, they don't get railroaded like some schools have done recently (although I'm sure Auburn is on the do-not-transfer list).

And those who transferred out haven't seem much luck. Star Jackson went to Ga. State and ended up third-string on a startup program. Phillip Simms went to UVA, played (and started some games) last year, but is now also behind two other QBs after the spring game.

Ask Urban and Les how hard it is to beat Saban two times in a row.

Despite being in College Station, Bama has an off week the week before, not a war at Baton Rouge to recover from. And Saban tends to learn from his mistakes.

US Open coverage takes precedence the first two weekd of football season on CBS.

At least until ESPN takes over all of the tennis Grand Slams.
