Couldn't have said it better myself. I know there is a trend to keep people around after you win a championship but the Pens PP is pathetic. Everything else in the system works well, even with an AHL blueline, why can't the PP?

As a Pens fan I have to say this could end up helping the Caps. When Sid and Fluery went down two years ago not only did Malkin step up but so did the rest of the team. That is why the Pens are so good right now, the other players HAD to get better.

Actually the point of hockey is to win the Stanley Cup. Everything else is trivial. You can score 1000 goals a season and not lose one regular season game, but if you can't get it done in the post-season it doesn't matter (see Sharks).

As for the arguing here's how the players break down:

Crosby: Playmaker, goal is to set others up to score
Malkin: Power forward/playmaker, can push through and come up with teh big goal, can also set others up
Ovechkin: Power forward/Sniper, busts through and scores big goals, great shot from outside the crease

The problem is when either of these players does not want to play defense. Sid's done it, Geno's done and AO has done it (keeps doing it), even Gretzky and Mario were guilty of it. The key is the ones that have won put it behind them and di everything they had to to win. Unless a player is willing to play both sides of the ice and activly chases a guy down when there is a breakaway the team will never win. With the cap, making the others around you better is just as important if not more so than being an offensive machine.

You will not see players like Crosby, Malkin or Ovechkin get traded in the near future, cap problems or not. Those three players would command Gretzky kind of trades along with all the cash the Kings gave.

Except Pittsburgh isn't paying for the Consol Center, gambling revenue and PA is. Also Lemiuex was promised support for a new arena when he bought the Pens and got the run around.

The situation in Long Island is that Wang wants to build and entire development including much more than just an arena. His issues have to do with the politicians of Long Island not wanting any development there. Remember this is the same part of the US where people are trying to stop wind farms off the coast because they wind mills will be something like 1cm high on the horizon.

So Marc-Andre Fleury, the number 1 pick, looking like he's maturing into one of the best goalies in the league (as goalies tend to take several years to mature) was picked by the Pens and allowed to mature because of, bias AGAINST French-Canadians????

Actually his body has told him no. He didn't sit on the bench most of last year because he was still at the top or even middle of his game. He sat out because for all intensive purposes he is washed up.

With Hartnell it is in character for him. Hartnell is probably one of the worst offenders of pure goonery on the Flyers, which is a shame because if he actually jut played the game and managed to stay out of the box he could be a bigger asset to any hockey team.

There are plenty of players out there that if you told me they bit someone in a pile I'd be shocked and I'd think it was more accidental. Hartnell is not one of those people. Even his reply was the epitome of goon, and for all the trash Philly fans are talking if a Pen or Cap had done this to one of theirs they'd be out for blood.

The only problem Sykora had was he wasn't consistent enough. Sure he'd score 20 goals a year, but he's go 10-20 games without a point then go on a 5 game tear. That is not the kind of production you want from a top winger.

Except no one cares about the KHL. Hockey players actually do want to play int he NHL so they can try and win a Stanley Cup, otherwise the best would be in the KHL since they can give out contracts that equal entire team payrolls.
