Posted Monday May 18, 2009, About: Sources: Roy has offer to coach Avs
How do you figure half the team? Roy's last season was 02-03. The only players around then were Sakic, Foote, and Hedjuk. I think this move could work for the simple fact that the roster is so young. Roy's been coaching major junior and a lot of the Avs players aren't too far removed from that level. Plus, if he coaches anything like he plays, then he won't settle for the kind of performances we saw this year. I will say that success will rest on the ability of the Avs to bring in a legit goalie, but I do like bringing in Roy.
Posted Saturday April 18, 2009, About: Vikings not interested in Boldin
The Eagles can't get him, because in "suring up their o-line" as you mentioned, they traded away this year's 1st.
Posted Wednesday March 11, 2009, About: Source: Cutler still believes he'll be traded
Denver can have their pick of Sage or T-Jack, and 2-3 picks (including our first round this year) for him. With AP and Chester running the ball, and Berrian running the deep route, Cutler maintaining the level he's been at the last couple years makes the Vikes a serious threat. Do it Minny!
Posted Sunday February 15, 2009, About: Will Sixers move Miller?
Granted I'm biased being Utes fan (and watching him play there), but he'd look really good with the Lakers. Fish is getting old, and Farmar is still developing. He'd be a really great bridge there. And his skill set would mesh with the triangle perfectly.
Posted Friday January 30, 2009, About: Favre-to-Vikings move possible
If I'm the Vikings, I put out feelers on McNabb (despite the reports he's not leaving), Carson Palmer, and Hasselbeck. Then maybe look at Cassel (this year's Derek Anderson), but don't look too long. Don't even consider Favre. If none of the first options pan out, how about a year or two of Warner. And the Vikes should try to get Boldin too.
Posted Wednesday January 28, 2009, About: Wild likely to lose Backstrom, Gaborik
Backstrom sure would look good in the Avs colors nest year. And wow, one of their goalies is an UFa and the other an RFA. And what's that? Oh yeah, they'll have gobs of cap space too. If he hits the market, and Colorado doesn't make a big play for him, I'll be sorely disappointed.
Posted Monday November 24, 2008, About: Cubs, Royals revisiting deal
I think the cubs need to find another deal, Fontenot and Marshall were big pieces in the Peavy deal. I don't think that will get done, but turning around and swapping them for Teahen seems like a bit of desperation to me. And I think there are better options out there to trade for. Teahen's not even the cubs top choice from the Royals
Posted Thursday November 13, 2008, About: Are Cubs really interested in Peavy?
No offense, but how can Braves fans still be delusional enough to think they can count on Mike Hampton to actually play, let alone be a solid pitcher? He was finished as soon as he left the Mile High city.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Peavy to Braves or Cubs
And to Yankees 27 who said that Peavy agreed to the Yanks and Angels, it came out a day or two later (I saw it on mlb.com), that Peavy had actually not agreed to that. But it was merely speculated he would. And Jake's still maintained he wants to remain in the NL.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Peavy to Braves or Cubs
Here's the one thing everyone forgets, TOWERS CALLED HENDRY before the most recent meetings about this trade. So to everyone saying the Cubs don't have the prospects for the deal, they clearly have something of interest to the Padres. I'd imagine the Padres asked about Smardjzia(sp), Marmol, and Soto. Which the Cubs would say aren't available. And yet the Padres are still talking. I agree that Pie, Marshall, Cedeno, and some minor league guys will be in the deal. I'd love if they'd take Marquis, but not sure if they would. BUt either way, I'm liking Peavy's chances of coming to the friendly confines (and Dempster coming back) more and more as the weeks move along.
Posted Tuesday October 21, 2008, About: Cubs hampered in free-agent pursuits
The Cubs will bring back Wood and Dempster. They'll sign someone who can play RF and bat left (probably not for power but someone to get one base) or play 2B and bats left. They then need to have Bartman ride a goat onto the field for opening day and throw out the first pitch (ideally, it would have been with the same ball had it not been destroyed). They should do it it game one of the playoffs (if the make it back) too. My wife also suggests that they keep a pen, in the RF corner, filled with goats as the team's official curse breakers.
Posted Sunday June 08, 2008, About: Bouwmeester eyes contender
I know most people on this site would say that Colorado wouldn't be a contender, but they will. And he'd look great patrolling their blueline for years. Colorado should trade Arnason, draft pick, and the rights to Liles for the rights to Bouwmeester. that way Colorado has first crack at signing him and Florida gets first crack to sign Liles to the big money he'll probably want. If either signing didn't work out, they'd have some sort of safety clause in the trade.
Posted Saturday February 16, 2008, About: Thrashers to take Hossa offers
The Avs should bring him in. He'd be a great fit, and they have an excellent track record about getting UFA's to re-sign in Denver.
Posted Saturday February 16, 2008, About: Orioles-Cubs deal unraveling
If you believe the Cubs insider (from the team website, and who is usually spot on with her trade talks), the trade already had been agreed upon by both teams, but the Orioles brilliant owner Angelos wouldn't green light it because he has some sort of a man crush on Roberts.
Posted Monday February 04, 2008, About: Sakic to help pursue Forsberg
ArisDragon has it right. If you look back at where the Avs were when Sakic got hurt, they were in first place in their division and second in the West. And that was before Theo started playing well. Right now, I am not ready to say that I would give the full time nod to Theo or Budaj in net, but they play very well in tandem. And you cannot say that a team which is in the playoff picture right now, and will be getting the equivalent of a #1 line (for any team in the league) back in Sakic, Smyth, and Stastny; is not a team to be reckoned with. Not only will Colorado make the playoffs, they have a legit shot at their division. And they will be a very tough match up for anyone. What an epic series it's gonna be if Colorado and Detroit match up this year.
Posted Saturday January 26, 2008, About: Why Wings won't sign Forsberg
NixonFire,
The Avs currently have about 3 million in cap space. That would be more than enough to get forsberg come come and finish the season in LODO and then retire.
Posted Saturday January 26, 2008, About: Why Wings won't sign Forsberg
Foppa will come back to Colorado at a discount price for two reasons. #1 he believes that the Avs are a formidible team whne healthy, which they hopefully will be in the coming weeks. And #2, because he realizes what the franchise gave up to get him after his draft and he wants to finish out the career in the burgandy and blue.
Posted Saturday January 26, 2008, About: Cubbies still talking trade
If the Cubbies cabn make this trade, I say do it. Roberts would be great to bat in the #2 hole (should be batting lead off but Soriano is so set on it) to set up RBI opportunities for the big guns like Lee, Ramirez, and hopefully Fukudome. And that would let us bat Theriot in the 7 or 8 spot. That would be a very tough lineup. And Bedard would make our rotation amazing. The problem is Angelos in Baltimore has a man crush on Roberts and won't let the team trade him.
Posted Tuesday June 12, 2007, About: Flyers to focus on Gomez signing
Drury to the Avs, Gomez to the Flyers, Briere back in Buffalo, Yashin to Washington, Timmonen back in Nashville. Colorado and Washington make the playoffs next year, Jersey and Buffalo remain competitive, and Philly gets back to respectablility
Posted Tuesday June 05, 2007, About: Avalanche quiet on Forsberg
Drury would be a HUGE benefit for the young kids on the avs roster. The Avs should do what they can to get him. Theodore won't be gone unless some team with their head in the clouds trades for him because buying out his contract won't give much more than 1.5 mil in relief and giguere would rather have the cap relief for the next off season. It would be great to see Foppa retire as an Av, but only at a discounted rate. Maybe a conract with incentives for him staying healthy, otherwise it would handcuff the team like the contracts to Brisebois and Turgeon. Also, we need to retain Vannannenn. He gives the backline toughness which is lacking in the top four guys.
Posted Thursday May 31, 2007, About: It's official: Kobe asks for a trade
I have an easy solution to the whole mess. STOP MAKING STUPID PERSONNEL MOVES! The Kwame trade was ridiculous. Make a trade for a player capable of being a number 2 and LA will be fine. I want to see KG, or J O'Neal in the purple and Gold and we'll be fine. Give Kobe some help, and he'll relax.
