Yeah I heard about a new color scheme/jerseys for LA too. They are going to keep the name "LA Galaxy," but I think I heard they were going to have dark blue for their colors and will probably also redo their logo (which is just hideous). Anybody notice Colorado's new design? Their logo is nice and the new color scheme and jerseys are sharp.

The Pavon signing is just a steal for LA. I think if LA could add a good Defensive Midfielder they will be a very strong team once Albright, Donovan, Beckham, and Pavon are all on the field at the same time. If they can stop leaking goals they might actually be able to make it into the MLS cup.
Posted Monday June 18, 2007, About: MLS wants second New York team
USL teams can't be "promoted" because the USL is not affiliated with MLS. I hope that someday there is some sort of promotion/relegation system with USL though.

I think that another New York team will eventually happen. It is too large of a market with a ethically diverse culture not to have another team. Like everyone has been mentioning, they need reliable transportation to increase attendance. But also, NY has only been good for this season. Before that, they were awful. Next season you will see season ticket sales rise and the new stadium will help that too. A crosstown rival (or even one that played in the same stadium) would help bring in fans too. That worked pretty well for LA and Chivas.

What I would love to see is another canadian team in Vancouver, BC. The support TFC has gotten is incredible and I think that that same kind of support could be found in Vancouver. Portland and Seattle are pretty big into soccer, so a Vancouver team would get those fans too.

I think a Las Vegas team would be amazing. Hooking an indoor stadium up to a casino (like has been suggested by caliguri) would definately be interesting.
Posted Monday June 18, 2007, About: Toronto close to signing Samuel
Toronto should snag him if they can. Althought they have more trouble preventing goals then scoring them, he would still be a good signing. And I would add that for an expansion team, TFC isn't doing that bad. They are almost unbeatable at BMO field.

Umm, why is this in the soccer section?

Yeah, Fan nation you have to really work on verifying your pictures when you put one up.

Paul, I actually thought I remember hearing the Yallop was planning to use Beckham in a central midfield role. It would be interesting to see how that plays out, if he does do that.

I actually think LA would be a lot better of with donovan playing an attacking/central mid role and Becks on the wing. So, LA would need a quality forward or two (you are right daveorona, Jaqua is horrible) and strong play from a holding midfielder to link the front and back lines. (I don't think Vagenas can handle that role well enough, go buy Joeseph from NE!).

trunks, would you go and sit in the stands in Chicago during February to watch a soccer game? It would be like12 degrees F and probably snowing. I don't think so, and I doubt the players would want to play in it. MLS is not going to play a winter schedule any time soon (like for the next 20 years at least).

Wow, this is a lot of comments for a non-beckham related soccer T&R.
Posted Thursday June 14, 2007, About: Rev's Parkhurst big on Euro move
Has Parkhurst gotten a US team cap yet? If not, they should play him in a Gold Cup game just to make sure he doesn't change his mind and join the Irish national team.

I don't like the Marshall-Buddle trade from LA's standpoint. Sure they need scoring, but Buddle doesn't really seem like he is a guy who does that anymore. And LA's defense is really depleted because of injuries.

MLS should be poaching as many of the top players in the smaller latin american leagues that they can get, including these two. It will help attract attention to the league from latin americans living in the US and will improve the overall level of play.

And I think it might be too late for LA. Unless they start winning games (not tying) now they have no chance and I don't really see that happening with Donovan at Gold Cup (and then at Copa America).

He is a good defender. I wouldn't be surprised to see him follow the success of other European based US defenders.

Jhawkins, MLS is a growing league and currently has a single-entity structure. Perhaps in the future the league will be able to allow more freedom, but a financial collapse of a team would have serious negative consequences for the entire league right now. Your free market soccer comment made me chuckle though.

Just because the Brazil second divsion can afford to fly its teams across Brazil doesn't mean MLS can. I am unfamiliar with Brazillian league structure, but isn't the second division also part of the first (and lower divisions). If so, that would allow the second and lower divisions to afford the costs because the first division is likely bringing in the revenue. If not, the Brazilian second division might actually be more popular then MLS and have the revenue to afford it. The MLS has to be fiscally responsible if it wants to survive, remember what happened to the NASL.

Yeah, they switched the photo. They actually make photo errors rather regularly.

And Gooch is only 25. With the right coaching and more experience I have no doubt that he could become a very good CB.

Actually giggs, I don't think a japanese all star team in mid season form could beat the best team in MLB (and that isn't the Yankees).

Lets assume MLS is on par with euro 2nd and third division teams like everyone says. So that means that all stars of the English Division One (in mid season form) would beat Chelsea at the beginning of the season. Does anyone really believe that? I don't think so.

I am not saying that MLS is a great league, I just think it is crazy how people drastically underestimate it.
Posted Wednesday June 13, 2007, About: Beckham may play after rest
I think he will play, but be subbed out in the second half. Either that, or he will be subbed in during the second half. Either way, he is going to play.

Who else does Bolivia have to play at forward? I can't believe they didn't have him on the squad during his best years!

Somebody is going to take him. He is just to physically talented for many EPL teams to pass on him.

Whatever, US pwns their CONCACAF group while mexico hopes they don't get pwned by Panama!

Ok, sorry. Pwn is just so much fun to use. I am done with my ridiculous "pwning" comments. :-)

How about we say this instead. "Mexico gets pwned by US and the next time US plays Mexico, Mexico will get pwned again."

There, I didn't use owned or dominated, so everyone is happy, right?

PS the US pwns Mexico

:-) Haha, too funny!
