How do you tie this to Kiffin? The kid's dad played at UT. His brother is a standout safety at UT now. He was asked about intentions in the future and he gave an honest answer as a freshman in high school.

Nowhere in this story is there even a peep from the UT staff, because that would be a violation.

The Detroit fans were the best, too. They started booing when the cup came out, booed throughout Bettman's speech (I will buy that), but then booing when Crosby came to the cup. Seriously, you lost. Get over it.

It was a good series.

This is what I saw:

Out of position, almost all of the time.

sssssssssllllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwww. Really.

Takes dumb penalties because he is out of position and slow.

Hands of stone.

Occasionally makes a decent play, but generally looked like he was going through the motions.

Let me see. I am a cash-strapped club and I have to offer this guy a contract. 1.15mil sounds good because he will leave and I didn't spend a dime.

P.s. Pierre Lacroix is a d-o-u-c-h-e.
Posted Monday June 15, 2009, About: Red Wings want Hossa at right price
The wings have a goalie-in-waiting. Jimmy Howard is his name and he should be brought up next year as the primary backup to Osgood.

I think the wings will be smart to let Hossa walk. To all of you who "misremember" him in the finals last year having a good series, let me take you back to him repeatedly standing on the doorstep and whiffing badly at everything that Crosby fed him. It almost looked like he was throwing the series. He was horrible in close and had some of the most gruesome turnovers this side of Hal Gill (please, please Mario, turn that guy loose).

My son called it about 6 years ago. Hossa was playing for the Sens. He had such incredible starts to the season and just disappeared when the playoff hunt heated up. He said, "Hossa will never win a cup, he is an albatross to any team he plays for."

He was 14 at the time.

I have used that throughout the playoffs against most of my friends who happen to have a misguided love for the Wings. Many of them were kind of worried about it. It is one thing to watch a guy blow a bunny against your team, but when he plays for your team it is a whole different matter.

The wings will let him go, sign Samuelson, Ericsson someone else's son and Hudler. They all contribute more than Hossa does when it is on the line. Pure and simple.

I don't have any hard feelings against Hossa, it is just born from watching him play for several years. He withers under pressure and that does not boon well for him. He will end up for any of several teams that will think he can help.

My guess is Philadelphia.
Posted Wednesday June 10, 2009, About: Report: New Yankee Stadium's dimensions shorter
Let me think. I have more money than god and my business is not floundering. I am recession proof.

I have utilized a rotisserie method to construct my team and I have been exceedingly successful.

I am in failing health, so I have to figure out which kid is worthy.

I don't have a pitching staff. Haven't had one for years.

So, I have the opportunity to spend eleventy-billion dollars for a baseball Mecca in the Bronx.
Done.

Wait, can you give me a stadium with dimensions within a few feet, so that we can call it "bonafide", but has an amazing power alley in right center? Go find me some engineers who can figure it out. You might want to grab a meterologist or two (there is the tie-in).

Baseball purists take heed. The center of baseball is New York. It has always been New York and you just don't realize it. Despite mediocre teams in the past 15 years, everybody is on this teams jock. I just built you a stadium that you can attend (for a modest fee, of course), some of the best culinary happenstances in all of sport (listed with calories, sodium, etc), and watch what will turn out to be a home run derby featuring all of the players in the American League.

I have always hated how the hitter gets to pick the pitcher in the derby. It will be much more "entertaining" if there are at least 7 home runs hit in each game. We have not achieved this goal yet, but we are close.

If this happens, the price of the first row tickets may be adjusted upward. The cloaking device will still be included.

Posted Sunday June 07, 2009, About: Browns leaning toward Quinn?
I watched Quinn throw a deep out in the face of wind and rain and the ball up and died at the 10 yard mark. I watched Anderson throw the same ball and zip it in at 17 yards.

Mental toughness does not allow you to throw the ball any better. He has a very shaky arm. Pure and simple, Quinn does not possess the skills to be an NFL player. He really did not possess the skills to be a collegiate quarterback, but we seemed to make excuses for him, just like we do that Claussen kid.

The same will happen when the guy from Florida comes out. I can't seem to remember his name. It will be enjoyable to watch him fail and people make excuses for him, too.
Posted Sunday May 10, 2009, About: Taylor leaning toward Patriots?
Here are some other interesting FA names for the Pats:

Joey Galloway. Does he have anything left in the tank? We will see. It certainly can't be any worse than Reche Caldwell and those eyes.

Larry Izzo. A smaller Zach Thomas, who KC just signed (Pioli is there).

Lamont Jordan. I think the Pats will try to run next year, call it a guess.

Does anyone remember when (that qb) got hurt? Pats ran and went play action. As the new guy developed, over the course of the season, the playbook was expanded and they threw the ball a lot more. Gradually, they developed an offense with a base that can adapt to the defense.

Throw like a Gruden offense. Absolutely. Power run and pass conservatively, check.

It is hard to explain, but they have a system that just works and it is spreading. Miami, Cleveland, KC, Denver, Dallas are the offspring, but there are probably a million more ties. Parcells has a nice system and Belichick has done a nice job emulating it now.

It is beautiful!
Posted Sunday May 10, 2009, About: Taylor leaning toward Patriots?
He would be an interesting fit on the Pats. Smart player with talent. Experience in the 3-4 and can play up or down. He is older and sometimes older is slower. Slower for Taylor is better than most people's prime.

When the Pats show interest in a guy, most people pay attention. I am sure that everyone team has looked at it, but I am pretty sure that the steelers don't want him. Last I looked, the steelers were pretty good on defense, while the Pats defense was "getting old". The Pats have been so transient on defense the last 5 years that it is hard to keep track of the players that have played for them. Some guy named Earthwind Moreland is walking around with a ring because the Pats picked him up in the middle of the season as a street free agent.

Fred Taylor will probably be a 1000 yard rusher and Jason Taylor will have 55 tackles and 5 sacks as a Pat this year. If Brady comes back, the Pats will be fine. If he doesn't, the Pats will be fine. Gutierrez or some other guy that fits in the system will be plugged in and brought up.

Face it. You have it because it works.

Before you pile on, I am a Raiders fan.

This series has beaten the Celtics-Bulls in the NBA.

The goalie play has been awesome. Two rather-young guys (goalie wise) playing well.

Both teams showing extreme moments both ways.

This game tonight, for example. How about that? Nothing for almost a period and a half. Then BOOM!

Jordan Staal and then AO from the point. Staal comes right back. Wait until the other stars show up!

And the goalies in this series have been incredible!

I am going to my TV!

To the Gonchar hit:

Know this. If Ovechkin would have had his foot off of the ice, it would have been slough footing, as only Brian Marchment knew how to deal out.

Call it borderline if you like. He stuck his knee out, not to feint to the middle, because he dropped down on it. He was looking to throw a hit, similar to the one he threw the night before on Orpik.

Here is where I defer. Ovechkin is a hitter. He is just as happy delivering a good hit as he is taking a shot on goal. He didn't show the intent to injure that Marchment did. It was an unfortunate hit, as SG lifted his foot for avoidance. He may be injured, but he is not crippled for life, as if he had left his foot down.

I thought that AO should have gotten 5, but no more.

The Caps are on the PK more because they play stupid at times. Very undisciplined. They play like young guys, which they are. Sometimes aggressive is just stupid. Ask that Kopecky kid from Detroit. Seriously, what were YOU thinking?

Posted Saturday May 09, 2009, About: Caps ban Hockey Night In Canada
HNIC should have been professional enough to mention it.

The Caps should have been smart enough not to leave it up there.

I doubt the Pens were sitting at their lockers, staring at HNIC for tips on the game.

It is what it is and I don't blame them a bit.

you heard it here first. Freeman will be a better qb in the pros than Tebow.
Posted Monday April 20, 2009, About: Eagles not out of Boldin hunt
Nice point, except that Boldin was an absolute beast the year BEFORE Fitz showed up in AZ.

AB had 1300 yards receiving his rookie year. I think he was the rookie of the year.

He has complained about his contract in each of the last two offseasons. When the gear goes on he shuts up and plays. He was pissed when he went at Daley for not being in on the play. He wants to play. He is not walking off of the field, or blaming someone else for his brick hands, he just plays.

If AZ doesn't trade him, he will have 1000 yards and 10 tds next year. Just like Fitz will. Boldin was leading the league in yardage and touchdowns when he had his face broken. Yep, his face was broken in three places. Missed a couple of games and came back and played. He played pretty well.

I understand his point and he should be payed at the level to which he has played (top 10 his entire career), but he will show up and play for the measly 2.5 million or so because he likes to play.

but MJ wasn't the best player ever at UNC. He was pretty non-descript, other than the steal and dagger jumper.

i think that MJ let the kid go where he wanted to go. he has an opportunity to start, play and grow into the game. he has skills and he will get better. he will not be his dad, but he could be a good player in his own right. he has a good head. i like watching him play. i want to see him play at the college level and he will get a chance to play at the college level.

it is not like mike fell out of the womb and we all went "wow, that is the greatest basketball player i have ever seen". Seriously, the guy didn't play much in high school. it is called a "growth period".

Posted Thursday April 09, 2009, About: Marve to visit three schools
I really don't think that you know what you are talking about. There were no alums or boosters that were pressuring him to keep Bomar. The cry for him to be kicked off of the team was swift and unmistakable. They ran the owners of the Big Red out of the state.

Stoops did not vacillate on the decision, either. He made a swift and decisive decision on both players. He made a statement, which was far louder than, "I am a man, I am 40".

Barry is another story. Most in Norman refer to him as the "village idiot". OU had an incredibly bad period the likes of which have only been seen in the old SWC.

Stoops has gone out of his way to ensure that he runs a clean program, as much as you can control it.

Oh, BTW, Marve was a very good prospect coming out of high school. I saw him play several times and he is a better qb than Tebow. I think Tebow is the most overrated college qb I have ever seen. Marve has better skills.

Marve has no head. He has been hearing the hype all of his life and he didn't think he had been treated fairly. Think Mitch Mustain. He struggled at the next level and became a national joke. That is why we are talking about him right now.

This **** happens all of the time.

Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Report: Kiffin tells recruit he'll be pumping gas
Most of them.

Some of them are actually productive.

Unlike UF. The best UF receiver in the NFL is Darryl Jackson.

Gaffney? Bust.

Caldwell, either one? Bust. Reche was creepy looking, dropping all of those balls with the Pats. He kind of reminded me of T.O. That is the only way he reminded me of T.O.

I could break them all down, but who has that kind of time. The UF receivers are second only to the QB busts they have sent to the NFL.

You want a UF player in the NFL? Take a linebacker or a running back.
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Report: Kiffin tells recruit he'll be pumping gas
Let me see if I have this right:

Kiffin baited UF at his announcement. Saying that they would sing "rocky top" all night long after a vol win. I highly doubt it, but it is the right kind of enthusiasm in front of boosters. I highly doubt that Meyer took it seriously. If he did he is a woos.

He accused Meyer of cheating. Meyer called the kid repeatedly on the his visit to UT. While it may not be against the rules, it should be. At the least, it is kind of low-classed. I would expect better from Meyer. The NCAA did invoke a rule about text-stalking, known as the Meyer rule.

He used a smoke machine and had prospects names called out over the PA at the stadium. Why is this so bad? It used to be a ND staple and probably still is. A smoke machine? How 70's. At least he didn't take them to a strip club.

He hires a coaching staff, taking coaches from other teams. Yeah, like this never happens. I seem to remember a Bill Snyder at K-State being quite miffed when Bob Stoops went to OU and took half his staff. The SEC coaches are bent because he went after their best RECRUITERS. He is smart enough to know that recruiting is the name of the game in the SEC as it was at USC.

For you tools who don't know who this guy is, he is the guy that Pete Carroll brought in to recruit at USC, under the tutelage of Ed Orgeron. Ed O. is the best recruiter in the land, only for the fact that kids love to come play at his school despite the fact that he doesn't speak a language anywhere close to English.

He will recruit with the best in the SEC. The question will be, can any of his mercenaries coach? If they can, it is lights out. It they can't it will still be entertaining watching them go down in flames. Either way, it is must see TV. Finally, a reason to watch the SEC again.

Thank you, Lance Kiffin.

(If you don't know then you are not a Raider fan). Hint: Al Davis announces new coach on youtube.
