Posted Sunday August 09, 2009, About: Hamilton suffers alcohol relapse
I'm still trying to figure out why this story is even newsworthy, other than someone out to make a name for themselves and destroy another man's reputation. That's not what freedom of the press was ever intended to be.
Honestly, I think it was someone wanting to undermine the power of Hamilton's story and how faith brought him back from near-death, and the anti-Christian media ran with it. Another round in the chamber, if you will.
Christians are not perfect, people. They have issues, suffer relapses like everyone else. The difference is they don't deny who God is in order to justify it.
My prayers with him on his continued recovery.
Posted Tuesday July 28, 2009, About: Selig standing firm on Rose eligibility
<"Baseball's all-time hit king remains permanently ineligible, persona non grata, out in the cold and taboo and I'm coming to the belief he's going to remain so as long as Selig is commissioner.">

Which hopefully won't be too much longer. I've always thought it funny how the owner of one of the worst teams in baseball history (over a period of time) found himself having to decide this issue. It's a power trip, nothing more. Seems all sports commissioners have been on one lately.

I don't like what Pete Rose did, but to me Selig is just as tainted for letting the players juice for more than a decade after that fiasco he helped create in 1994 following his Gestapo-like takeover as commish. But hey, owners were making money then. But I guess Buddy Boy's yarmulke was pulled down too tightly over his ears when somebody undoubtedly tried to alert him to that fact.

So quit whining, Bud, just because Pete Rose is bigger than you'll ever be, and while you're at it let Shoeless Joe back in too.
Posted Saturday March 28, 2009, About: Larry Johnson & Chiefs to haggle
As bad as his assault was, we should not let that define who he is, but rather pray that he receives help from the right place to get his life back in order to the point where, 20 years down the line, we can say how ridiculous someone is for bringing up an incident two decades old and using it to define a person. (You know, like they do in political elections).

As to his contract, I think the Chiefs are being petty to refuse 3.75 million over a one-game suspension and calling it a breach of contract. If the money was part of the guaranteed package when he signed the contract, then it is his money, like it or not. The Chiefs shouldn't get off easy here.
Posted Saturday March 28, 2009, About: T.O.: Jerry Jones reneged on commitment
PS, the part that SI bleeped out of my first comment stands for ****. Apparently, you can't even tell people to shut up on here anymore. Free speech my a**
Posted Saturday March 28, 2009, About: T.O.: Jerry Jones reneged on commitment
You know what, Terrell, just ****. Unfortunately, releasing you was only half the solution to our problems here in Dallas (the other half being the idiot who brought you here in the first place, who unfortunately won't be gone until he enters that great big Jerry-Bowl in the sky).

You're a whiner who cares about nothing but your stats and your next big contract. In a way, I wish you had gone to Baltimore so that one day this season I could read about the unfortunate locker room incident where you popped your mouth off and Ray Lewis broke you over his knee.
Posted Thursday July 03, 2008, About: Rodgers tries to explain Pack fan rap
It really doesn't matter because Brian Brohm is going to take Rodgers' job anyway. If there weren't questions as to Rodgers' ability to get the job done, the Packers wouldn't have taken Brohm. If Rodgers screws up at any point this season a la Rex Grossman, he might as well kiss his GB career goodbye.
Posted Thursday June 26, 2008, About: Teams ask Mavs about Howard
Signing Diop is a good move, but at the whole exception, with the team over the cap and needing to fill several roster spots? It's risky. Also, I would still make the move into the later part of round 1 tonight and try to draft Roy Hibbert. This guy didn't get bad overnight. He was a top-5 pick last year if he'd come out. 7-2, 275, he's worth a shot, especially if the Mavs can move Dampier.
Posted Wednesday June 18, 2008, About: De La Hoya alters finale plans
Hatton in many ways is tailor made for De La Hoya, though he would still have a better than even chance of winning the fight. It's mainly a size issue. Hatton was the little man against Mayweather and Mayweather was the little man against Oscar. So what we'll have is a 140 pounder against essentially a 154 pounder who's got height and weight advantages. I like Hatton a lot and I think he'll destroy Malignaggi this fall, but Oscar may be too big, unless Ricky can knock him out.
Posted Monday June 16, 2008, About: Calzaghe wants Roy Jones
I'll just say right now that I think Jones wins this fight. Part of it of course depends on which Jones shows up. If he trains hard and keeps his focus, his speed and counter ability will stop Calzaghe. However he does need to up his punch output as it will be hard to win a decision throwing 50 punches a round if Calzaghe's throwing 100 (even if the majority of them don't land).

Amen on Joe avoiding Pavlik. See my blog post from today. Pavlik would send him into retirement on a stretcher.
Posted Friday June 13, 2008, About: Inside Bentley-Browns fallout
So he'll take some time and work his way back into proper shape and come right back and be his dominant self from before. People forget he was one of the most dominant young linemen in the NFL before his injury.
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Sheppard not long for Eagles
Philly and Dallas have traded together several times in the past. Sheppard might come cheaper than DeAngelo Hall, though either would be an upgrade.
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Vikings discussing QB trades
Wanna know what all these quarterbacks (Lemon, Losman, McCown, etc.) have in common?

As Peter Griffin would say, "shipoopi"
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Browns beat Bengals to Rogers
The Bengals really blew this one. They finally get their chance to get a big fat tackle clogging the middle and they let it slip away. Oh, the havoc Rogers would have wreaked in Cincy. So sad.
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Saints ask Giants about Shockey
If the Saints offer a 2nd round pick, take it and sign Kyle Brady as your blocking TE and draft another young one on the second day in April.
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Cowboys interested in Walker
As long as Dallas drafts a wide receiver on the first day in April, I wouldn't have a problem with this. I say first day because Glenn may not be back so you would essentially be trading one injury prone WR for another.

One plus is that Manningham seems to be falling down the draft boards, so he could be there when Dallas selects in the 2nd round, though I prefer Limas Sweed out of Texas.
Posted Sunday February 24, 2008, About: Cuban, Mavs looking at centers
Magloire would probably fit better with the Mavericks. He's still young and he is a shot blocker, which the Mavs need since Diop is gone. I think Magloire has gotten a lot of bad press lately, since he was pretty much the 4th or 5th forward in Portland. I don't think he's so much diminished as become rusty from lack of use. Either way, I think he could give us some valuable minutes off the bench here in Dallas.
Posted Saturday February 23, 2008, About: DeAngelo goes off on Falcons
My only question is where is Dallas? They've been talking about needing CB help for years and the analysts have them taking a CB at 28. Why not ship that pick to Atlanta for Hall, who is a punk but is much better than anything you could get at 28.

Besides, I'd love to see him an T.O. either kiss and make up or swing and knock out.
Posted Tuesday February 19, 2008, About: Does Moneyball really work?
No, Moneyball as defined in the book does not work. It does not measure a player's intangibles and it is biased (at least in Beane's case) against high school talent.
I mean, did you expect any less from a former security guard who spent his spare time clipping press boxes out of the daily sports section? Hope you kept that royalty money, Bill James. Sabermetrics is dead. Will the real baseball people please stand up (and you, Jon Daniels, can go back to Dunkin Donuts)
Posted Monday February 11, 2008, About: Phillies take hard line with Howard
OKay, anybody who has to quote the letter of the law in the face of what's obviously right has a problem. That's what got the Pharisees in trouble with Jesus and he ate their lunch over it.

Just because the CBA says the Phillies can treat Ryan Howard this way doesn't mean they have to. Every other team with a young superstar is working 24/7 trying to lock them up long term. Remember, they are the ones who automatically renewed him for $900.000 after he'd given them a monster season. BUt that's okay. I'm sure the Rangers down here would love to pay him.
Posted Sunday February 03, 2008, About: Snyder narrows Redskins candidates
The ghost of Vince Lombardi couldn't fix this mess because the owner is what needs the fixing. And Snyder will never admit that he is a bad owner.
Posted Sunday February 03, 2008, About: Phillies, Mets to bid on Lohse
Sox Sider said it best. A bidding war for Lohse? This is getting obscene. I'm all for pitchers getting their money, but I'd much rather pay $10 million for a proven hitter than a mediocre pitcher, even if they are in short supply.

I think the only thing worse than these kinds of deals is when a GM uses the word "overwhelm" in trade talks, especially when those talks center on mediocre utility men.
