pen's problem's start with preventing goals ... followed by "who should play with sid" and "lack of toughness". teams they pushed around last year are beating the hell of out them. the needs are too numerous to address with just one player.

hossa will probably be bid up by boston who really needs some offense. my concern is malone ... some team will bid him up like what happened to stevens years ago. pen will match offer and maybe look for trade later. orpik will go (unfortunately). ruttu will go with a big offer and more icetime (he'll be missed).

pen's in 6. too many young legs and speed/transition game that detroit hasn't seen yet. speed kills!

sorry on misspelling baun-ded ... honest mistake.

i wasn't misspelling clue-less ... just play on your hyphenated nom de guerre.
no knock on bowman. fine/great coach ... more knock on players and what they accept nowadays. in pittsburgh ... bowman (this is knock on those players ... even lemieux/coffey, et al) didn't accept his style. therrien ... prepare for bottom line: is good for this group. that doesn't mean he will be coach of the year ... many others out there are deserving as well.

still, "The fact that the team improved their winning % without Crosby speaks volumes about the Coach and it's not in a positive sense." as a negative statement about coach/team is clueless albeit clue-less. it can only be deemed a positve response to bad things happening. hockey teams are challenged on many levels throughout the season ... and they either responded ... or not. to suggest that they should play at that level all the time (which is what i think you're trying to suggest) would also indicate that a team on a winning streak should never lose again ... because they finally discovered the "key" ....

opinion is fine ... be it on a emotional level or factual one. but given pen's record, age and current standings in the conference. they are progessing nicely and comments to the contrary just don't seem to make any sense.

therrian should be legitimate coach-of-the-year canidate. he's done everything the organzation could possbily ask. penguin fans are hoping he's not a scotty bowman type ... sure, collect your ring at the end of the year is great ... but putting defensive systems in place and being able to show his face at practice (players would let bowman in penguin practices) when the penguins had very little except crosby.

how you or anyone could conclude that: "team improved their winning % without Crosby speaks volumes about the Coach and it's not in a positve sense." ... how that (positve) fails to refect on the team and the coach (either directly or indriectly) makes no sense. if you're going to make a point ... at least have it be somewhat logical and follow from the facts stated earlier or abandon that route and just say up front in the first sentence ... you're clueless.

popking is beyond cloudy .... he's dense fog with likelyhood of sever showers. the parts are there for the penguin's we'll see if they are able to step-up their physical game from the opening drop of the puck. historically, the pens are slow starters to the physical nature of playoff hockey. once established ... their fine. i would expect with home ice advantage to come out like gang-busters and they'll need all their parts for the playoff run ... roberts, conklin, laraque, etc. i think that is their strength is depth ... they can play 3-4 strong lines were other teams will be relying on 2.

conklin is the pen's mvp so far this season ... even with the year that malkin is having. with 2 big afternoon games this weekend ... sabourin will probably get another shot to show his stuff prior to trade deadline. i think christensen is the odd man out and he and sabourin will move on in some package deal.

when sid says he's ready ... then wait another week. no reason to rush him back. even if they were to lose a couple in a row and fall out of 1st place ... i think it helps build this team's character to have him out and be forced to pick it up in other area's. the playoff's will be alot like this ... war of attrition.
