Posted Sunday July 27, 2008, About: Stanley Cup used for christening
I was there (we are friends of the family)! I live in Pitea (population 18000) and the whole town was buzzing yesterday. My 11 year old son met Homer, got his autograph and had his picture taken with the cup outside the church prior to the baptism. Its these kind of things that keep the hockey tradition burning brightly up here for years to come. Who knows when the cup will come back here? Congratulations to Holmstrom and the entire Redwing organisation.

Nixonfire I said playing population i.e. their players. Do you think Salming, Makarov, Fetisov, Kurri, Lidstrom etc etc have been and are critics of the game? You are a moron and a rascist and should be ashamed.

Jesus grab some brains you lot! The NHL (read Pittsburgh) poach Malkin while he is under contract to a Russian team and then you complain when someone wants to go the other way. Nixonfire to say that the Europeans give nothing back to the NHL is pure BS and not worthy arguing about. Individuals may act that way but to classify an entire continents playing population as complaining and selfish only illuminates your own ignorance.
Posted Sunday June 29, 2008, About: Bertuzzi back to Red Wings?
I sure hope he doesn't come back to Detroit. He would be a good fit in the russian league though.
Posted Sunday June 29, 2008, About: Canadiens impress Sundin
Sundin has been loyal for years and worn the C with class. Now some people on this blog want to criticize him for MAYBE moving to a team that may have a shot at a cup run next season. Really classy people, really classy.
Posted Monday June 16, 2008, About: De Rossi: Italy fears Holland fix
An Italian complaining about a possible fix has to be the most beautifully ironic thing you can imagine. Of the major European leagues the Italian Serie A is the only one to have the final standings adjusted due to corruption.
Posted Thursday June 12, 2008, About: Habs, Wings front-runners for Sundin
Detroit does have a history of not just drafting smart but also signing grizzled veterans (Bertuzzi and Drake are two that spring to mind). Being from Sweden I don't think Sundin in the locker room will disturb the Lidstrom/Zetterberg/Datsyuk leadership role. Swedes tend to accept the roles they are given and get on with the job. Boring but true!!
Posted Wednesday March 12, 2008, About: Caps rookie explains own goal
I remember Paul Coffey scoring a terrific own goal once. Can anybody else recall it?
Posted Thursday March 06, 2008, About: Aggressive Blackhawks irk Ducks
Pot? Kettle? Black? This is just too funny to be true. When Pronger drove the back of Holmstr??ms head into the glass in last years playoffs I wonder if he thought he had "crossed the line"?
Posted Thursday February 14, 2008, About: Red Wings linked to trades
Agree with gocanada, Jokinen is the best of the bunch to shoot for on the forward side of things. How about Hudler, a 1st and a 2nd? Would that swing it?
Posted Tuesday February 12, 2008, About: Wings in market for scorer
Lindros will make the Hockey all of fame when hell freezes over.
Posted Tuesday February 12, 2008, About: Wings in market for scorer
Jagr will play for the Red Wings right after Chelios wins the Art Ross Trophy and Kovalchuk takes home the Selke trophy.

goCanada you're right about detroit using late round picks well, they're probably the best organisation when it comes to scouting. I would hate to see Hudler go but can't see anything else that Holland would be prepared to offer. I have a horrible feeling Anaheim are going to move big at the trade deadline and it wouldn't surprise me if they took one of Sundin, Hossa or Jokinen. Should be a monumental playoff series between the Red Wings and Ducks, can't see anyone else really challenging them for the western conference title.

Sundin would be a tremendous fit but detroit is reluctant to give away draft picks which is what the leafs would ask for in return. Jokinen maybe?
