Joba has a much larger innings limit than the Hughes or Kennedy; to stretch Joba out to start would mean weeks in the minors to redevelop his other pitches and just because someone throws hard doesn't mean they'll be great in the rotation - look at Papelbon, Farnsworth, or any of the other hard throwers. It's doubtful that Joba would be as dominate as a starter as he is now. Hank spoke without thinking - ok, no surprise. If he wanted Santana, he could have had him and it wouldn't have taken both pitchers + Melky even though that's what Cashman says. When you look at what the Mets gave the Twins and you know that the Twins called Cashman before they signed off with the Mets looking for a better deal - the Yankees could have had Santana. Hank needs to filter what he says. If he's unhappy now how does he think his statements are going to affect Mussina, Hughes, and Kennedy, not to mention Girardi and Cashman. The Yankees have traded and paid for more bad and below average pitching than I care to remember when they finally had a chance to get a young, established ace they passed on it. If Hank knew so much then why did he let that happen? Most pitchers go through growing pains, and when there are 2 doing it in NYC at the same time, it just makes it more difficult. Pls. Hank, don't keep making it worse just remember going forward that it's great to use your homegrown players but the farm system is also used as a means to get what you want.

Please remember that this is actually a violation of MLB rules! Willie was upset last year when Franco came over to chat before a Mets-Braves game. It is very important to keep the competitive juices flowing with the opposing team before a game. If someone wants to see someone from the opposing team there is plenty of time to do that off the field. Personally for Willie it can't feel good to see the Mets brass making nice to Acta and it can undermine his authority with his team.
They expect Willie to make The Mets winners NOW without giving all of the right pieces and then they dis him by and undermine him with the players he does have. BAD Move by the franchise and the Media should have been making more of this!
