money is irrelevant- theres no cap-
If you have to 'overpay' you overpay-
I personally think neither the sox or Yanks should-
but if you're a team WITHOUT a #2- like the mets.....
why in the world WOULDN'T you ?
the guy is NOT a bad guy- he actually stood up to marbury
when both were here- almost came to blows....
He's better than Darko- but neither are real difference makers
I see where NY was going liiking for a little size outside shooting
from a big man- but this trade was insignificant - not worth
debating cause neither players are quality
lol
We did help them out a few years ago with Nazr Muhammad -
who singelhendedly guided them to a championship-
and they saddled us with Malik Roses sweet contract
though he didn't have 'control' in Dallas
I'm saying currently in Miami- he's not been wronged-
that there hasn't been any incidents
Lackey is MUCH more consistent than AJ-
& Burnett - if on- has better stuff-
Yes in age going forwards- similar
but again- that's why I wouldn't want BOTH on my roster
for 4 -5 more years...there's too much risk in older pitching
- of course the Yanks can overcome that cause money is no object
overpaying- obviously means NOTHING to the Yanks & sox-
it's just $$$ in a non-capped sport
My issue is the YEARS-
I don't see cash giving lackey more than a 3 year offer cause
they've already committed serious years in 2 guys -
it would be bad business (IMO) to commit that much years in 30+
year old pitching- especially when Lackey has been hurt the
last 2 years
where as the sox- don't have that issue- they have nothing
locked up long term - though Beckett is coming up
THEY need him more than the yanks
and they might overpay/give him more years than the yanks
and they can't screw around- but they've started off as poorly as
they can and still ahve the same record they had last year at this
time....and have a better roster this year-
Believe me - I'm not saying they're 'tanking' -
and if the game si close at the end- they're TRYING to win-
don't get me wrong-
But they'd MUCH rather have a 100% healthy team going into
the playoffs than an ailing Manu, sore Timmy with home-court
But point is you're right- he'd ba a #1 starter on MANY teams
and if he's you're #2- you're in fine shape.....
which is why the Mets NEED to make him a BIG offer-
they, more than any other team NEED him
(unless they traade for Halliday)
it's just the years....he has been hurt the last couple- and
I know witht he Yanks- just can't see Cash giving him a 4-5
year AJ-like deal when they have AJ & cc signed for so long
- and when tehy want Joba and Phiol to be a part of the rotation
going forwards (whether that's mart or not)
As far as the sox- I see him more needed there cause after
beckett & lester- there are long-term questions
- maybe he meant Birds jock strap ?
I guess my real question then is - what is Miami looking for?
veteran teams take time to rev up and even when reved up- they
NEVER give 100% effort over 82 games- they can't they're old
and simply are on cruise control to get ready for the playoffs
The spurs need to stay healthy #1
& rest Timmy as much as possible
regardless- who is trading for him ? lol
I just simply can't see him at this point in his career/age
moving to cleveland - when he hasn't been 'wronged' in any way
down in Miami....and he's in TOATAL cush mode there
a bit more than 15 mil remaining....no options
- who in the WORLD would trade for him - especially before
this summer ??
- and why in the world would he accept a buy-out when he'd be
lucky to get a 1 year 1 mil contract going forwards ?
ps you're the ONLY one that figures that.
he is ABSOLUTELY the #1 FA pitcher on the market
(granted it's a weak SP market)
granted you can never have 'too much' pitching-
but the Yanks have made HEAVY investments in Joba & Hughes
Andy will likely come back and they're going to want to see if
Wang can still throw-
Boston could probably use him more- can't count on Wake or Dice
to play a full year.......
But neither 'needs' to over-spend to get him (not that they know
what that word means) when they have other issues - like LF
he's not a 'bad' coach- but he's HUGELY over-rated
give me a reason to give him total control?
I mean he's won ONE playoff game without Elway- in 10 years.
