there were reports yesterday in the local media that said he wants to play here in detroit and that his agent is already talking with the lions. i dont really know how true that is....

not that i have much room to talk because im a Lions fan, but how did ur Cowboys do in the playoffs last year?

i didnt read the article.... did crosby hit him with his purse?
Posted Friday August 08, 2008, About: Lions may dump Kitna for Stanton
damn maybe some of you people should actually read the article. the real headline is if lions slump, they may start stanton. i think he played good enough to rise in the depth chart to 2nd string. what many people are forgetting is that after his surgery last year in camp, he was placed on IR and never even practiced with the team. he needs a little more experience before tossing him in as the starter right away.

but if he keeps playing the way he played in the first preseason game through the next 3 he'll definatly be the back up when the season starts.

well thats thats something i can agree on. at this point its pretty much a stalemate due to the fact we are both fans of our own team. i'll alwasy say lidstrom and u the same with bourque. the whole arguement is more of a bias and hometown pride then stat sheets anyways.

either way they are both a complete package.

wasnt faulting 77 for scoring, was just stating that a dman scoring more goals doesnt necessarily make him better.

it shows he had a better shot... thats about it. in addition the +/- isnt truly accurate becuase its a group effort of who's on the ice at the time. doesnt show what he did by himself. lidstrom doesnt have to score 30+ goals a season to justify his worth, he has great forwards to do that.

but to say 77 is better then 5 purely based on the amount of goals he can score or how good of a shot he has isnt accurate. the norris trophy is given out to the best dman, not the one who can score the most goals.

i dont mean to get in the middle of gocan and bgm's debate on lidstrom and bourque but id just liek to make a few comments about it anyways. Having more goals and assists in my opinion doesnt mean you're a better player. All it really proves is that your team's forwards arent doing their jobs right if a dman has to be one of thier leading scorers.

the truth of the matter is that stats will never show the true ability of the 2 players. how can u make a comparison on stats? do stats show how many times either player made great plays to stop the opposition from scoring, passing, or making a move on them? Can it show their ability to shut down just about anyone trying to gain the zone?

the bottom line is there really isnt a stat sheet that can show u how good of a dman either one really is. Scoring goals are good and all but call me crazy, isnt a dman's first job to prevent the opposition's offense from doing any damage?

to sum it all up... and this is just my opinion... goals, assists and pts dont mean anything when compairing a dman's ability to play his role.

but if u wanna talk stats... u can cleary see from what u posted that lidstrom's a better playoff performer, when it REALLY counts...

Bourque's

214GP 41G-139A-180PTS 15PP 4GW

Lidstrom's

214GP 42G-107A-149PTS 22PP 10GW

to me 42G, 22PP and 10GW his much more weight then more assists and points.

sorry for the long post

well i dont deny he was still feeling the effects of the hit, but it seems everytime a player doesnt perform well, he mysteriously gets "the flu".

the same thing happened to jose theodore in the 2nd round. He played bad cause he had "the flu"

maybe malkin was sick, but either way it was one hell of a series and got a little nerve racking at the end again. Was thinking game 5 all over again. but congrats to both the teams for making it a very hard fought, entertaining series. and good luck to both teams next season.

for the people who've ever been to the joe...

The parking situation is just terrible downtown, it takes forever to get down there, parked, and into the joe. not to mention the building is old, not unlike the igloo. in the whole building there has to be a total of about 10 bathrooms a gender for the whole crowd. its not unoften that ur waiting in line to piss in a trough for 20-25 mins between periods and miss the first few mins...

now i dont know how any other building is, but inconvienence issues is a slight reason why i dont go down there as often as i would like to. not to mention about 2 blocks away from the stadium is just ghetto as hell. but hey, thats D-town for ya..

"Hey, Babcock, what are you talking about? The league does want more goals scored! Only they want more of the legitimate kind!"

-then whats with the few articles on here a while back about shrinking goalie equipment and making nets bigger? i for one dont want more goals i liek it the way it is now.. adds more excitment.

"I have to say that Detroit are a fickle, demanding fanbase. My guess in these playoffs is that some fans didn't want to pay those high prices to see the Wings choke again. Once they got to the finals it was a different story--they were just waiting for the Wings to prove themselves, waiting for the finals. That's tribute more to the Wings' excellence. Good excuse, makes the fans look great? No. True? Don't know, but that was my guess."

-another reason is the fact that we've made the playoffs in 17 straight seasons!! the best of all pro sports. call us spoiled if u want to. could be some of that "been there, done that" mentality. The high cost of prices does play a factor for sure with our economy but it really doesnt mean we as a collection of fans care less about our team then anyone else does theirs. chalk it up to letting the road team see their team play a few more times before the wings eliminate them from the playoffs...

o im not complaining... i cant even afford them if i tried.. i was just making a joke of why pens fans are supposedly the best fans... our economy is screwed to all hell here in detroit cause of the car companies, gas prices and the sort and ticket prices from these games are just outragious.

T-fo is back --- Why do you think Pens fans are the best .......?

becuase they limited ticket sales through ticketmaster to the surrounding states EXCLUDING michigan, and all seafood markets in pittsburgh are asking for ID to make sure ur not from michigan if u planned on buying an octopi lol

did anyone actually read the article or just comment on the little tid bit.

quote:
Babcock smiled when asked if he'd have a conversation with the league.

"Just had it," he said, to much laughter.

Babcock then added, "I'm going to try what the other guy has been trying all series."

he's just trying to level the playing field...

why dont we all just agree that both coaches are complaining about the refs for calls/no calls and that fans of both sides on these boards and gonna whine until and well after this series is over and save this thread from being another 300 comment "stop whining/we're all divers" thread....

that being said..

GO WINGS!!

its been one hell of a series so far... a little adversity never hurt anyone...
Posted Tuesday June 03, 2008, About: Osgood blows off post-game media
ya and how many have the wings hit? not to mention how many goals hit fleury first before its slid through his arm and in.. at least 2 or more
Posted Tuesday June 03, 2008, About: Sykora predicts game-winning goal
But you know what? They're doing it the right way. It's like there's a dotted lione. Sometimes, they cross it a little bit."

that last sentence pretty muchs makes my point... it throws a flag up..."watch the obstruction"

either way there's no use arguing about it. it is what it is. u guys got the lucky bounce when it counted the most so no use crying over spilled milk. game 6 wednesday.... we'll give it another shot.... we've won every series this year on the road.. why not win this one a well?
Posted Tuesday June 03, 2008, About: Sykora predicts game-winning goal
saying detroit's defense was blurring the line is indirectly whining that the refs werent making any calls on that. and as for the pens winning because he whined, thats retarded because how many obstruction penatlies have been called on the wings for apparently "blurring the line"? i can only think of one fo them and it was game 4 with lilja. crosby did a little dive into the zone and initiated contact with lilja before he went down like a drunken prom date to give the 5 on 3 PP.
Posted Tuesday June 03, 2008, About: Sykora predicts game-winning goal
What a bunch of babies. Only losers blame the refs

so wait.. wasnt Therrien blaming the refs after games 1 and 2... so what does that make him?

seriously now guys. I have to admit it, like all otehr wings fans this morning, im pissed at the way the game turned out. but u cant deny how good fleury did in net last night. his play was the only thing that extended this series. the pens looked wore out by the third OT and it was a matter of time before someone scored a goal.

as for the penalties, the first interference was garbage, the second one was a penatly. Cleary plowed right into him, although trying to avoid him, he made contact and it was the right call. The highsticking was also a clear penalty, the stick came up and got him. yes the officiating was terrible on both ends, it has been all year so dont feel bad.

the real question here is which team is gonna come out and play on wednesday? both teams are gassed, but the wings are still up in the series and 1 win away. the same thing happened last series and we won it in game 6 by a good margin. dont give up hope! and stop whining for christ sake! winning 3 in a row is very tough no matter what building you're in.

cmon wings fans and show some class and cheer your team on.... because in a few short months were forced to watch the Lions....
Posted Tuesday June 03, 2008, About: Sykora predicts game-winning goal
some of wings fans (not outofshapeandinjured) are real hypocrites, you know that? you talk about the pens whining every damn day but all i hear from you guys is wah wah wah we missed calls wah wah wah crosby dives etc. grow a pair.

the difference is that the fans are allowed to whine.. the players and coaches look like retards when they do publically...

as for the goalie interference... notice how both calls were made from the ref in the neutral zone... not the ones who watched the actual play happen next to the net. how can u make a call like that from halfway across the ice? the hooking call on the pens and the highsticking were penalties for sure. unfortuneatly it ended the way it did. but like the rest of the games in this series, its not a penalty if its done on someone with a winged-wheel on their jersey.
Posted Thursday May 22, 2008, About: Franzen doubtful for Game 1
i believe according to doctors a player must be symptom free for a full week before they can clear him for practice. there's a slight possiblity he'd be ready for game 1 but i think its really gonna end up being game 2..possibly game 3. either way we could sure use him on the ice for the finals.
