I have always stated that his tendency to dive is simply ingrained in his football DNA by growing up on the Iberian Peninsuela (or off the coast, rather, in Madeira).

He has unbelievable work ethic, trains like a madman and has the fitness to prove it, nails gorgeous women and throws them away like bubblegum wrappers, stays away from negative social publicity (i.e. drinking, transvestites, partying all night, transvestites again) oh and by the way, is the most technically gifted, lethal footballer in the world. He can simply beat anyone with his pace, strength and creativity. He's better than Ronaldinho at his prime. Simply better.

Will he get 42 goals this season? No. Not with Ferguson's acquisition of Berbatov, Rooney's newfound hunger for goal and Tevez running around the pitch like Blanka from Street Fighter. Ronaldo is a team player, but knows, just like every other transcendant athlete, that its his job to take over the game when his team isn't playing up to snuff.

Give him a break. Let him rest the bent ankle. And be amazed when he comes back for a 30 goal/20 assist season.

That club has issues that go way beneath the surface of the pitch. They either need to reconfigure the entire team (around Modric, who is class), get a new coach, or both. Ramos has proven that he cannot control that side nor coach in the Premier League. It's pretty unfortunate how a team with so much perceived class cannot play together at all.

I think defending yourself is one thing, if kept within the boundaries of the rule-book. His reaction was to a much greater degree than the aggregate of Materazzi's agitations. You can't just headbutt someone in the chest in a World Cup Final, not to mention your testimonial game. He lost his head (literally) and no matter how horrible Materazzi was to him (or his family), you can't lose control like that. He cost his team and his country.

He should be sorry. You can make the argument that his actions paved the way for France to lose the World Cup. They lost their best player, team leader and, ultimately decisive, their best spot-kicker. They were the best team on the pitch in 2006 and they should have won that match.

Materazzi deserves no respect for his actions, but unlike Marco, Zidane is an ambassador for football. Football is supposed to cross country lines and unite the world. Thank god Iraq, with its contingent of Sunni, Shi'a and Kurdish players won the AFC or the meaning of football could have been blurred much longer.

I appreciate hearing that he is remorseful for his transgressions. As a WORLD football fan, someone who appreciates the meaning of the game moreso than its entertainment value, I was very disillusioned when he committed that atrocious act.

It truly appears that Adriano has put his life back together. Playing for Inter Milan, who are Scudeotto winners and hungry for Champions League glory this year, I doubt that he will become complacent. He had his time to reflect and now he's ready to win. With so much competition for playing time at Inter, he has no choice but to work his absolute hardest.

At least I hope so because when he's on, he is one of the best.

The MCL will heal in 4 weeks. The ACL will take six months to rehab. He will be back in time for summer mini-camps. The Patriots on the other hand are going to have to really reshuffle that offense if they want to make some noise this season. I think they will make the playoffs, but I'm not sure if they can win that division with NYC and Buffalo looking more dangerous this year. Division games will be so crucial to their success.

First of all, a hearty congratulations to the USMNT. They looked great against the Soca Warriors and should have no trouble finishing off the group and entering the final round in prime position to qualify for South Africa. They seem to be unbeatable at home, which will go a long way in the final rounds of qualifiers.

Landon Donovan should NOT go to Bayern. He's a pacy attacker, but not creative enough as a playmaker nor lethal enough as a striker to satisfy either position well for a team like Bayern. He has great pace, is young and very athletic, but poses no threat in receiving set pieces. I think he should stay in LA and reclaim his spot as the posterboy for the MLS once Becks retires, which shouldn't be too far off. He won't have any exposure in Germany or anywhere in Europe for that matter.

Own the MLS, LD. Let Adu and Altidore have their shot to do what you couldn't.

I think Cassano showed some poise at Euro 2008 and that Sampdoria was a great fit for him. Obviously Del Piero and Trezeguet are getting older and at 27, Cassano is entering his prime athleticism. He is still a bit of a primadonna, but if Sampdoria can do some damage in the UEFA Cup e.g. beat the crap out of FC Kaunas and make the knockout rounds, he might be a good pickup for Juve. Sampdoria is a great club, but it won't crack the top 4 in Italy and I don't think Cassano wants to play in the UEFA Cup every season.

I am aware that footballers are sold and not traded, persay. Are you a lawyer? Because you sure did a fantastic job of picking one word to define my entire argument, which is pretty sound.

The comment about NFL players is drawing a comparison between players from the two sports and how they conduct themselves professionaly. NFL players don't talk about playing for other teams like soccer players do. And there are many reasons for that.

You never hear NFL players talking about how they might want to play for the Patriots one day. You would never, in a million years, hear LeBron James say "man it's always been my dream to play for a great club like the Boston Celtics." There is a doctoral thesis worth of reasons why club level football leads the way in pseudo-news, from windfall foreign investments, zero salary cap, etc.

I wish I had a dollar for every non-story about Andrei Arshavin's transfer saga. Or Shevchenko's terrible form at Chelsea. Or my favorite, the Critstiano-Madrid saga. All three ended this summer with anticlimactic results. Arshavin stayed at Zenit, Ronaldo stayed at United and Sheva was sold to Milan. Who didn't see that one coming? I don't need a reporter to tell me everyday that a terrible player is going to be traded. I'm not stupid. Apparently your average footy fan is either stupid or has a penchant for wasting time at work reading sports gossip.

Injury news is fine. Reporting a transfer that has already been signed or imminent? Fine. Musing over the UCL draw? Super-fine. But speculative BS about a 20-year old loanee? GOSSIP.

He has stated that he won't leave unless he and the club disagree over where the club is going. AC Milan will ALWAYS be going for the UCL and Serie A titles, so I don't see him leaving anytime soon or at all. I can't speculate at all where he will end up if he leaves. The land can change so much so quickly, evidenced by ManCity's sudden rise to financial prominence.

I could see Kaka leaving if Milan fail to make the UCL in the next two seasons. But to where, only time will tell.
