Posted Thursday May 29, 2008, About: McBride wants MLS return
I think, as a fan of the game, this is a great move. He absolutely can do one more season in the BPL, but coming back to MLS says a lot. And, I think a lot of the footy fans in the US will appreciate getting an opportunity to see him play one last season in MLS.

Would it be too much to say he is our biggest star internationally? I know Keller is pretty popular and also has a long distinguished career and it will be great to see him come to Seattle with Thiery Henry some day (lol), but McBride has such a positive image about him and has earned quite a bit of respect with everyone he has played for/against.

IrishR#1, didn't they reject the bid partly because of Reading's relegation as well, so the price may only be slightly higher than 7Mil. Although...that's still high.
I can only hope that NUFC could get these signings, I could finally watch some American's playing on the team I support...Gooch was there for such a short time, I can't count that. And the other kid...I can't recall his name now...is calling himself an Italian these days.

- Excellent, there may be a home for Joey Barton after all.

As a Newcastle Fan, (in case the avatar doesn't give it away), I'd be upset to see him leave. However, as a New England Rev fan, I would love to see Owen and Twellman up front killing keeper's careers. However...no way Kraft would spend the money. Ahhh....dare to dream though.

Oh my goodness a really big superstar coming to the MLS who is under the age of 30? This most be total crap...when he turns 33, I'll believe it.

Ni kidding, Even if Henry comes over for Seattle (doubtful), he will be in his 30's. We can't seem to get the young exciting ones over here...but, i don't blame them.

I have to agree with Jeevs, Sporting Seattle sounds good. I suppose you could also do a little Schalke-esque type think and go Seatle 08, but I think Jeevs suggestion is the best by far.

Nickname - The soggies. (I wouldn't think I need to explain, but I will...it rains there a lot.)
Posted Friday March 21, 2008, About: Beckham can buy MLS team
LA Galaxy (or Chivas - though not likely) is the only team that makes sense for him to buy. There is no reason for him to buy an expansion team elsewhere in the US as it would mean more than necessary travel. At least if it were the Galaxy (or Chivas) he would be able to be a "hands-on" owner and able to work for the team every day.
Becks and Posh are LA and if there is a chance of him owning a team, it's going to be in an area that they can embrace. Not to mention his boys will want to sit inthe Owner's Box...that will be easier in LA...just purely from a logistical stand point.
I for one welcome the idea. He is, like it or not, a huge ambassador for the sport, and any further attention that he can bring to the league to promote/build it should be welcome. Personally I am not an LA fan, go REVS, but still I want this league to succeed and he (and his name) can help it.

Additionally, think of this. Who is Becks making nice with...the Hollywood Elite...He would have potential investors right there. I am sure Tom Cruise and other could part with some of their money to become part owners of an up and coming sport in the US. Get in now while the getting's good. In 5 - 10 years, it may cost a lot more to be part of the action. Just my thoughts on this one.
Posted Thursday March 13, 2008, About: West Ham picked for MLS All-Stars
Jeevs BS, until the USMNT performs well consistently in Tournaments using players from MLS vs EuroLeagues, I am not sure the MLS stature will ever improve. I am probably wrong on that end, but sincerely believe that would be one ingredient for improved stature. I think having more teams is also going in the right direction but our format of playoffs towards a championship is too closely tied to other Major US sports, and not World sports. Until we start behaving in similar fashion, I don't think the rest of the world will take us seriously...to their loss.
Posted Thursday March 13, 2008, About: West Ham picked for MLS All-Stars
Anyone else think that an AllStar game is silly to begin with? MLS is the only league that does it right? Now, it would be cool to see the Premier League AllStars take on the Serie A AllStars or other AllStar teams from other top flight leagues, but alas, that won't happen. I think a simple Best 11 vote is enough. Usually we can see big clubs come to the US in their Summer Tours, so the AllStar game isn't really needed. IMHO.
